kraken613 Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Last year the high school band i'm in was invited to the Kennedy Center. Its a great Honor because their are only 5 high school bands invited. Us the Hendersonville High School Band was invited. We go in May of 08. The Hendersonville High School Band has played at many prestigious venues. They have played at Carnage Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and now The Kennedy Center. im very excited to go! The music is great but very hard. It takes alot of work too do this! I play the Alto and Tennor Saxes. Just wanted to tell everyone on TPR.
astroworldfan1 Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 ^ That's cool, and good luck!! Â My high school that i'll be going to next year (Edward Douglas White Catholic High) has an indoor percussion group, and their 8th in the world. And the school is in Thibodaux, LA. Little town of absolutely nothing! Its soo small! Â Â Just again, good luck!
kraken613 Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 Are school has two bands a Concert and Symphonic band. When we are at the Kennedy Center we will play these songs combined. Last Thursday was the first time we had played them together. It was our winter concert. Â When I go in May look out for a trip report of my journey!

RaptorBoyASU Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 My high school that i'll be going to next year (Edward Douglas White Catholic High) has an indoor percussion group, and their 8th in the world. And the school is in Thibodaux, LA. Little town of absolutely nothing! Its soo small! Â Don't sell them short, they were 6th at WGI last year, but that is Open class, there's still another 15 or so in World Class that are better. Still E.D. White has a great percussion program. Do you play percussion?
astroworldfan1 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Not right now, but I would love to! I might want to play symbols or Marimba. Â Â Go Cardinals Go!!!! Â The band played a great song about Texas, and OMG it was the best song I have ever heard. I loved it! Â Once again, Go Cardinals Go!
kraken613 Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 Today was our Christmas Assembly at school and the band played. We played Sleigh Ride we rocked! That song is so cool!
kraken613 Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 We had our weekend pratice this weekend and had a concert where we played our Kennedy Center music. All 106 of us on the little stage! Â My dad got a video of us playing Galop. We are also not play D Wakes we are playing Ave Maria. Â Ill post the video of us playing Galop. We still have some work to do though. Im the Alto Sax on the 2nd row. Its just me and one other one im the one on the left of the two of us. Keep in mind this was just with a digital camera not the best picture or sound quality. And its not the best auditorium for a band either! Â What do you guys think? band_0002.wmv Galop
astroworldfan1 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 That piece was aswome! Great job, David!!!! Â I really liked the Marine March part! Â -Tatum
no_brain_er Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Congratulations! I play the alto sax too, and our band is pretty decent. But we've never played in any of those nice places, though. Â Our trumpets are too loud...
astroworldfan1 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 EDW might also go to Carnage Hall in the next 4 years instead of Disney. Â I don't know which one is better Disney or Carnage? Â -Tatum
kraken613 Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Our band director doesn't know how we can top the Kennedy Center. We have just gone to better and better places but she just doesn't know! We take big trips every two years and smaller ones on the off years. Â We will have another concert in April maybe my dad will record more of it. We will be alot better by then because that concert is a week from when we go up to Washington. Â I got a picture where you can see me better. Its really grainy. Not the best lighting for taking pictures! Im the Alto on the left
Yankee cannonball Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Tatum, I don't know how good your band is, but they must be pretty freaking awesome if they performed the best song you've ever heard! my school band makes you wanna plug your ears with wax. I play guitar, so I'm not in it! yay me!
kraken613 Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 Well its finally here.... Almost! We leave Friday early morning! It seemed like it would never actually come! Im so excited! We actually play on Monday! I really cant wait I have a feeling tomorrow will go really slowly. Thats pretty much it! Ill be back Wednesday! Ill have some pictures when I get back!
KerryB Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 I just found this thread today...I hope that you have a fantastic trip and performance at the Kennedy Center. What an honor to play on a stage of that magnitude. I listened to the clip from back in March. Gallup is a very difficult piece and your band sounded great then...you should be in wonderful form by today! Â I played the tenor sax in symphonic, jazz, and pep bands in HS and college. I was a flag girl during marching season though..I only marched the tenor once and said never again! I have an alto as well, but they are all in the attic now. Keep up those chops, I lost mine many moons ago!!! Every few years I pull the tenor out and play at Homecoming at ASU...or attempt to play I should say! Keep ASU in mind....The Marching Band of Distinction.....several very talented members came from the Hendersonville group to ASU. One of my best friends, Dawn Perry, is just now getting her PHD in conducting and I believe she came from Hendersonville. I look forward to your update! Â KerryB
kraken613 Posted May 7, 2008 Author Posted May 7, 2008 Hell Yeah! We won it! We got the gold! We are all still flying it was so amazing and emotional. Its hard to describe! Â We now have a Triple Crown of prestigous wins! Carnage Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and now the Kennedy Center! Ill have a better update when im not so tired! Â We can really all say that we Hendersonville High School Band is the the best High School band in the country! Â Heres the newspapers blog they had. It has alot of info and some pictures. http://bloggingtheband.blueridgenow.com/default.asp?item=2198871
kraken613 Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 Hey guys! Ive been too busy to post a real tr but heres our newspaper article. http://www.blueridgenow.com/article/20080511/NEWS/714503250/1151/NEWS/HHS_band_gains_the_gold_at_Kennedy_Center
Tanks4me05 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Hey, I remember playing Ave Maria for a Brass Ensemble concert last year! That was a really awesome piece! But dang, Galop is hard. I feel sorry for the trumpet with the solo nearing the 2 minute mark. For some reason it reminded me of the Infernal Dance of King Kashchei from the Firebird Suite, even though they are entirely different.
CoasterNut17 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Nice job! Â Sounds like our show choir. We are one of the top middle school show choirs in Wisconsin (had a score high enough to make it to nationals if there was a competition at that level). It really is an odd feeling (but good)! I am glad to hear about your success! Sounds like you guys had a great year! Â Keep it up!
kraken613 Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 Ok heres my pictures! I have more I think but these are the highlights. Our outdoor and Kennedy Center performance. I dont have pictures of the sights to post right now. All of these are taken by my parents. Â Ill try to get the videos of the Jazz Band later. Â Enjoy! Then the buses pulling back into the school! The End! As we won GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!! WE ROCK!!!!!!!!! The statue of Kennedy The Grand Foyer in the Kennedy Center Me with the best band director ever Ms. Shelton!!!!!!!!! Me infront of the sign infront! I still cant belive it! We played at the Kennedy Center! AND WON! The stage. Yes its just amazing! The best picture he had of the hall.... Its just amazing! We had to watch the first 2 bands before going to get ready to play. Yeah we are a big band! Outside of the Concert Hall Its awsomness!!!!!!!! Now Monday theres the Kennedy Center! Theres the a site..... There I am..... The just as amazing HHS Jazz Band!!!! Im sitting on the right end. The croud we had watching us.... Compare that to who was watching the California band......
