Schmoofy Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 It was my mother's company picnic at Knoebel's today, so we decided to go with her to Elysburg. The park was very crowded until about 5:00 PM, which is probably when most people left after eating dinner. Anyway, for such a chilly day, we had a really good time. Flying Turns pictures included in the second post! Excuse the lack of pictures, Flying Turns was my main concern of this trip picture-wise. And forgive me for only taking one shot of the Phoenix, I was more amused with Flying Turns. Those pictures to follow! An overload of Twister pictures, I know. I rarely take photos of it so I did today. I found this log flume picture neat. The line was decently long, slowed down a LOT later in the day though. More Twister pictures to follow.. Twister (All pictures following are Twister unless a new caption shows)
ebl Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 ^ Great photo TR! Someday I will die. But before that day arrives, I will visit Knoebels. Eric
Schmoofy Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 Flying Turns anyone? Many pictures today, some blurry, and excuse that. I will upload the blurry ones anyway. When asked about the opening today, one worked replied "next season, not PPP". And I'll leave you with the runway lights. Crane. Some wood laying near today's construction. More brake run. Brake run brakes. The brake run. Thank you long arms! Third lift hill's chain. More of the third lift hill's mechanics. This didn't turn out as good as I thought it might. Uhm hum. Entryway is shaping up. The "higher" webcam. Blended right in with the small metal pieces. A ladder was laying on the last part of track. Tried looking inside again.. I can't wait to be one of the people walking down this exit ramp. I hope they don't use this wood.. The magical crane truck. (It's wheels were off of the ground) The track is near complete, why are these still laying around? A crane was inside of the empty area that is fenced off, lifting wood I believe. The "lower" webcam. Looking awesome. Majestic. Flying flyers? Still not completed. A MESS of wood coming off of the first lift hill. I really hope it doesn't stay this way, it looks really bad. Looks awesome. They were working on something before the main lift hill. Could this be the transfer track? Nuts and bolts are needed. This curvy bit looks better every time I see it. Third lift hill. Third lift hill's mechanics. Third lift hill's top wheel. Braking devices. The queue. (Excuse my lack of captions, many pictures to go through.) Ride op's stand. Needed braking items. If I was just a bit taller.. The wood siding for the station is real, not fake.
ebl Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Three lift hills, huh? In one of your pictures, I noticed that they had a track layout posted. Did you get a close-up of that? I'm really curious how this thing is laid out. But regardless, the fact that Knoebels is building it out of wood in the traditional fashion means that the ride experience will most likely be just like the original ones of old---and will kick some serious boo-tay. Eric
CoasterEricHP Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Great pictures! I was there today with my girlfriend! Too bad we didn't run into each other. I'll post a TR tomorrow sometime. Flying Turns looks great though, and it's so close to being done! We went in the Carousel museum and Mr. Knoebel and some other industry people were in there with him. Some lady from Sally and the guy with the pony tail I've seen on TV a few times, and a few other people were talking to him. I tried to eavesdrop but got nothing.. haha. ( I was talking to my friend who works at Hershey tonight and said they will be at Hersheypark tomorrow night too, so I guess it's nothing)..
Jim S. Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 The layout image is on their website: http://www.knoebels.com/images/TurnsLayoutA.gif The first lift is between the station and the helix, the second is between the helix and the main set of turns, and the third is between the brake run and the station where it will also serve as an additional block since they'll be running three trains. I'm disappointed that they didn't manage to finish it this year. All summer long, everyone thought it would be open for PPP if not before. I've really got to wonder how well they thought out this whole transfer track thing, seeing that the upper one isn't even started yet and the lower one doesn't look very far along. (The storage track is going to be wrapped around the helix somehow!)

I know they had an optional day at Knoebels the day before so I'm sure that's why they were there. I think that's also why Hershey is closing earlier than normal this Sunday. The meeting starts off with a reception in the Boardwalk area at 6 pm.
deano Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Flying Turns looks great, a lot of love has gone into it's construction so far. When is it due to open?
Musical Pete Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Beautiful is the only word. Such a shame we don't have the right patrons over in the UK for this type of machine. Our chavs only want high, fast, [cheap] looping steel tracks and puke-inducing flats. We've gotta ban those tits and attract cultured, classy foriegn custom!
coasterdude5 Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Great pictures, it's looks to be so close to being done, it would be awesome if they could have it up and running for PPP.

Team Thriller Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Glad that park still stays classic. they also have the original Mr Twister that John Allen designed, which I find cool because Six Flags just keeps cloning rides. That Bobsled looks freakin' awesome. Great Pics
