Norcal Twists Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 In 2011 I will be graduating high school. I have decided to go on a massive trip that summer. This summer will include many parks, hotels, traveling, and most importantly NEW ROLLER COASTERS!! It will be on the east coast. I have changed this thread now. It is now a suggestion thread for my trip. Suggest hotels, different ways to travel, where to go, and if you want to meet up along the way.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Okay, why are we talking about this four years in adavance?
asr Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Sounds like one awesome trip, and I would love to do something like that, but are you really sure it is wise to plan so far ahead?
Norcal Twists Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 I needed to plan this out because I need to figue out how much money I will need to save over the next 4 years.
thomas2 Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Watch out for a overload. I think with a trip that long you're in the end probably completely tired and you can't enjoy the coasters anymore. Anyway that's how I would feel.
arrowfanman Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 You really are trying to encompass too much in one trip. Look dude. I dont want to put your trip down, because I've been in your exact shoes planning my graduation trip 4 years in advance. But it's for that exact reason that I say to not worry about it right now. My trip was always changing and eventually simply didn't come to fruition! A LOT changes in 4 years. I highly recommend saving $2,500 to $3,500 and just doing the coolest TPR trip out when you're 18. That's probably the smarter thing you can do. And if you dont want to do any of them or they dont have them in 4 years (or you dont like coasters as much in 4 years, which is HIGHLY possible), well--then you have $3,500 dollars, which is certainly enough to do a kick ass trip. -Jahan
gk Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 What everone else said. You need some breaks in there, and leave some flexibility to deal with potential bad weather. Also, with some of the larger parks like Cedar Point you will realistically need more than one day to do everything. As far as amount to budget, when you arrive at a figure, double it. It's fun to plan these sorts of trips, but four years is a LONG time.
Carnage Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 In 4 years I assume you will have gotten your drivers license, and bought a car to take on this trip. Planning this trip around taking a train between parks is pretty iffy. Seems you're relying too much on taking overnight trains, which might not be possible at certain places/times. Plan to drive. Taking the train on a trip like this will be a major pain in the ass. And besides, your trip will change drastically in 4 years. As who knows what parks are going to build in that time frame. Also I think you should look at where these parks are located. Your plan has you backtracking more then necessary. Like you're going from Holiday World to Cedar Point, and then backtracking to KI. And you're going to Hershey, and then backtracking to Kennywood. etc etc
jten11 Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Yeah that look a little TOO overwhelming and a little unrealistic for me...I would be exhuasted by the 5th day if I was always on the go..You need to have designate some days to just relaxing. I would take out a lot of those parks, too. You have a lifetime to go to all the parks you want to.. Dont do an overkill...its great that you're planning this early in advance, though. Another thing...invest in a car, too. It'll minimise what mode of transportation you're using, instead of flying to one place, and taking a train to another place, etc. And if you can try to make your trip plan a circular pattern from the start so when you go to your last park, you wont be that far from home...just some tips for you to consider....
Norcal Twists Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 Lol everyone, don't worry. I know this will not happen exactly, but I just wanted to put this out there, because these are the places I want to go that year. I planned it out so I could figure out how much money I would need to save for a trip like this. I still plan to do something like this that year it just will be completely different. I will probably take breaks ever 2 days just to relax. I plan to save at least $5000 for this trip, just to be safe. Thank you for your opinions though.

When I took my 8 month sabbatical, I managed to fit a few coaster trips while driving across the country. I did however put a few days break between them to just rest and relax. That's a lot of walking and standing you are planning to do! And I had just bought a new car to do the trip in; you do have to get from your hotel to the park and to your next destination! Scale your trip down smaller and put a few breaks inbetween or you'll burn yourself out. Terry
