crispy Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 I was kind of suprised this hasn't been mentioned, but saw it on my front page on yahoo http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070526/ap_on_re_us/ufo_theme_park The local news reported they would like to build one of the fasted indoor coasters in the world, not sure how fast that is, but that could mean if Western Playland builds its coaster, there would be three real coasters in new mexico, and could be seen as a better destination, and then maybe I could meet some of you guys, lol According to the local news, its pretty much a done deal, As soon as a developer is chosen, I'll update this post, exciting news
Ccron10 Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 I don't know, I kind of don't like the idea, but if the town really needs the business, then they should go for it. I just think that the citizens would be tired of UFO's and aliens after a long period of time.
Leaping La Ronde Boobis Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Whoa, that's the guy who was on CoasterRadio.com, he spoke about the this theme park he thought up and how he was getting investors. I thought he was either kidding or insane. I now stand corrected, man that was a good podcast.
Disney Dood Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Sounds like a weird idea, but I'd go for the indoor coaster. I sure hope ET doesn't get mad if the park is offensive towards aliens...
RollerC Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 This seems like a themepark from RCT2. I wonder if they will have the gigantic aliens around and have that erie music and alot of green light.
speedracer Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Screamscape had mentioned this awhile back, seems all there is is talk about it, be surprised if this ever comes to life like so many other theme parks proposals that never happen. This is what actually interest me the most!: "A roller coaster similar to the one Temmer proposed is under construction at another theme park for almost $100 million, Montgomery said." Only Disney and Universal build $100 mil coasters, Disney already has their space theme indoor coasters. Wonder if Universal or a new player has something in the works! Better be in the U.S. and not overseas!
ECZenith Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Ccron, if you've ever been to the area (I have!) you'd realize that it thrives on the alien phenomenon. While I'm sure a lot of people don't take them seriously, there's alot of touristy stuff already involving aliens from restaurants to gift shops, I'm sure the park wouldn't hurt the locals' feelings much. Fastest indoor coaster you say? You have my attention!
bulldogmom Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Personally, the idea doesn't appeal to me- seems too much like cheap exploitation. Maybe an alien themed section of a park would be cool, but I can't see an entire park. I don't think it would appeal to a wide enough variety of people, and I can't see people going out of their way to visit it. New Mexico has so much natural beauty anyway- I think something like this would detract from it.
