thomas2
Hey all! So after a week I decided that it would be time to go back to Walibi Belgium. So after a 20 min. train I found myself and a friend back at the gates of Walibi (after literally being attacked by the mascots; stupid Wok!) Ofcourse it was raining the whole day and I'm still soaked as I write this. But the rain made the people leave and reduces the friction of the coasters so it wasn't that bad . Also the water rides had absolutely no queue and they had all the effects (spouts and so on) on. Downside is that I ran the whole time with water in my shoes, underwear and wet hair. First stop of the day was Weerwolf/ Loup Garou. We rode it backseat and my god it's a fun ride. There isn't a moment this coasters doesn't let go. You fly over the hills, you get almost thrown out of your seat in the turns and the pace is high the whole time. I really love this wooden coaster, though I feel it's getting rougher year by year. At some points it's a little too rough, but everything else makes it worth the ride and attracts me to go back in the queue. One other downside: the roughness makes your restraint go tighter and at the end of the ride your pinned in your seat. Because of the airtime and fast turns that hurts quite a lot. But that shouldn't be a reason to not ride it. Go ahead, I'm sure you'll love Weerwolf at once! Next we headed to Luky Luke City, home to the Dalton Terror, a 77m tall Intamin drop tower. They were only operating 1 car, but that was enough because you never had to wait (though they did use 2 cars for a short period). It's still a joy to be pulled upwards knowing you'll be going the same way back down. At the top you get some brief time to enjoy the sight before plunging back down. It still amazes me Also in Luky Luke City is Calamity Mine, a Vekoma mine train, built in 1992 under the name Colorado. The roughness combined with the hard seats and lap bars that don't close completely, make this ride a bit of a downer. Fortunately it has 2 lifthills so it's a pretty long ride. Also Kudos to the park for finally cleaning the scenery because last year it wasn't really a mine train ride but more a disgusting, crappy combination-of-plastic-rocks ride. Also kudos for getting a second train (though it was running with 1 train today) and later this year a 3th train. An ideal coaster for the whole family but not very thrilling. In the back of the park lies Challenge of Tuthankamon. Built in 2003 by the Sally company, it has since been a popular ride in the park. After queuing the line, you board a 6-person vehicle and the goal is to shoot with your 'Ankhinator' on everything you don't like. You have to shoot on various lights that appear on the animatronics. All I can say about this ride is that it's very proffesional and the animatronics combined with very good lighting are a big thumb up. It also features real fire! So after being denied on the kiddiecoaster and passing the closed Turbine, we arrived at Flashback. The water of this log flume is so dirty and smelly that the ride should have a name somewhere along the lines of 'sewer, the ride' IMO. It was raining quite hard at the time so it was the ideal time for a water ride . The theming of this ride it somewhat strange: it has something to do with getting back young... The ride itself begins in a dark tunnel filled with fog and cool lighteffects. Suddenly you're going up lift hill (still in the dark!). A the top you enter a turntable that rotates you and the pushes you down the first drop (which it the wettest in my experience). The tunnel stops right after this drop so you're back in the open sky (and rain ) again. After some while you enter the second lifthill and turntable. This is somewhat the same as the first one, only now you're being rotated forwards. A photo is shot at the bottom. Then after some other track you enter the last lifthill, the tallest one. The drop that follows is very fun and gives some airtime if you raise your hands. The splash that follows it really isn't very wet. After that the ride is over. Another water ride of the park is Radja River. It's a rapid river with large boats that can carry 12 people. Ofcourse there was noone when we arrived so we took a boat on our own. The ride itself is rather dull in the beginning. You never get really wet. But it all starts after passing a tunnel: there are water spouts that just completely soak you. And there's no escape from them! We rode it a second time under the illusion that an umbrella would protect is from those spouts. It didn't... The water just smashed it and it was broken!. What an adventure In the same themed area lies Cobra, a Vekoma boomerang. Though I'm not a big fan of this ride I must say I actually enjoyed it a lot. The rain made it smoother (ofcourse not smooth) and there was little headbanging. Thank you rain! Vampire is yet another Vekoma, a SLC. Last week it ran really rough so I entered the queu with mixed feelings. Luckely the ride itself was very good, probably due to the rain. There was also only 1 train on the track but it was enough. We had an entire train just for the 2 of us! Only downside is that the rain collects in the top of the trains and when you enter the inversions it falls out and flies in your face! The were testing Vertigo today. I shoot some footage, I'll try to put is online ASAP. Anyway here are the pics! Thank you for taking the time to actually read this! Pff Dalton Terror looms over you Vertigo. Fave it! This helix looks like it's going to be fun. Let's hope that's true. Yay they're testing! This shows the vastness of the ride. Shot from across the lake! It's quite large. That means it's visible from everywhere. You may deceide wether that's good or not... Darn you stupid overgrown chairlift! Open! I love these concrete Vertigo footers! You might hate a SLC but you've got to admit that they are beautiful. Second inversion. But the illusion of almost hitting the track is well done. This inline twist is beautiful. Too bad it's kinda rough. Another empty station = happy Wrebbit! The signature inversions. These inversions are much better when you sit in the back of the train IMO. Yet ANOTHER Vekoma: The SLC! This guy didn't let us ride his ride. We didn't want to argue... Obligatory ferris wheel. Granted its one ugly ride. But I did like it. Today. You guessed it: Sexy curves 2! Sexy curves 1 No wait. But you couldn't remain seated. You HAD to go around and enter the queu again for a second turn. Time for another Vekoma classic: the boomerang! Sort of overview (not really eh?) And this is the rest. FIRST PART OF THE FINAL DROP!8!! The ride was really popular today. I had to wait soo long. Unacceptable 'Age Compressor'? Yeah this pretty much confirms the wacky theming it has Second drop. It's not very tall as you can see... Entrance with the first and last drop. Yay Flashback. The operating Flashback Look how large those boats are. They're huge! This is where the misery begins. Too bad I couldn't get any pictures of those spouts. In case you don't know why they call it rapid rivers. This pretty much sums it up! Radja River! The queu is really long and there's no shortcut Dead... Too bad because I was really looking forward to this one. BTW this is Turbine, as you may notice from the sign. 'Darn you stupid beaver for closing this ride!' Aww no kiddie coaster for me today Omg these ducks are scary! What the hell is this ride?!? Hey we're in a boat ride and all the ducks are following us... Don't go anywhere near these birds EVER! They almost attacked me! 'Oops I shot all his beasts' Doesn't this guy looks friendly. He's inviting us! 'huh why is there an ass in that thing???' Yes that right. That's an ass worth 10.000 dollars. An ass... Airtime hill! Too bad there no airtime on it... But it's the tought that counts Uhm, that's just disguisting... It's good they cleaned the scenery. The coaster is alot prettier now. Calamity Mine! The coaster with 2 lifthills yet 1 train. It just looms over the park and offers some beautiful sight (on- and offride) Nice erection. Next up was Dalton Terror. It's pretty easy why it's named Dalton Terror (I guess?) Probably the most exclusive photo of them all! This shows how to built a wooden coaster. Finally the secret revealed! The fun final helix. Too bad the ride is almost over when you enter it Weerwolf's going through the trees. This is the best part of the ride. Airtime all over the place. My ass had a hard time keeping itself in the seat! Hot onride action. What strange people don't get excited seeing that twisted wood. First drop!!!! ZOMG! If you look carefully you can see some of the artime hills of Weerwolf. Look! That turn is really rough but it does look beautiful Lifthill. It's not very big though... In case you didn't know how the station of Weerwolf looks like: this is pretty much it! Aww 1 train operations... First stop was Weerwolf, a coaster packed with emotions as my friend demonstrates Oh my it's going to be a crowded day! bulldogmom
Nice pics, especially of Loup-Garou and Vampire. You're right- the theming on Flashback is really weird. I remember this park from RCT2. Vertigo looks neat.
thomas2
Thanks! Keep in mind that the RCT2 recreation isn't like the real park. Some of the rides are bad recreations and alot of the theming is missing. I never liked the RCT2 park...
verticalzero
Lovely photo's of Weerwolf (which gives a great ride considering it is a Vekoma) and of the other rides The water should be clean and not smell of anything. I tried to go on the kiddy coaster but was not allowed. I enjoyed my day last year, "Turbine" opened at mid-day, I had to hit the front seat and was thinking of good old "Thunderlooper" at AT. If the Parks are not busy, the Ops should let anyone who wants a re-ride to stay on the train and not walk round the Qing area. They allow this at Walibi World and Heide-Park. I always ask to stay in / change my seat when it's not busy. ----------------------------------------------------------- The only only major problem at WB is the "Indoor Water Park", the speedo wearing law was fine, it was just the amount of Chlorine they put in the water, after 10 mins your eyes went red and your skin was slightly burning and very dry. I thought the Chorine was bad enough in English swimming pools, but this pool was very bad, so watch out. The swimming pools at Centre Parc's in Holland did not have any chorine in or very little, this made the am or pm much more enjoyable.. Keep us updated on Vertigo
coastermaniac1
I never thought the park looks any good until now, Loup Garou looks great and there seems to be some nice themeing around the park. Shame though because Vertigo is one ugly coaster and those footers look horrible. I wish they got rid of it.
