Photo TR: Hersheypark's Springtime in the Park 2007

My first trip report. It was pretty cold (about 40 degrees) so it didn't feel like springtime at all. more like christmas candylane.. but Storm Runner and Great Bear were closed from the cold weather. ON friday Storm Runner was open then around 3 it was out of service.. then they opened it back up.. my friend said that it rolled back! but here are the pictures. hope i did it right.

New sidewinder sign

These are the new smoking pavilions they are really tiny, I would love to see the park on a packed day and have everyone crammed in there smoking.

Don't know why they blocked off the extra queue line? This is at Rodeo.

I'm pretty sure this is the new entrance to the Canyon River Rapids

It's nice that they made the bike fences look a little neat by covering them up with these banners that fit right over them.

The new Nathan's stand. I really like the way it looks very beachy.

New bathrooms and changing rooms. This one doesn't have the individual changing stalls as the one next to roller soaker does

This used to be the Canyon River Rapids mini retail store where you could by things while waiting in line. Now it's a totally different building, it's an airbrush shop.

100 years of happy sign.

Storm Runner, Great Bear were closed. But Wildcat and Lightening Racer wasn't even supposed to be open, but they listed it as closed anyway.

New Dunkin Donuts stand just outside of the admission gate

All trashcans have the 100 years of happy stickers.

Nice photos. My dad drove through the park when he went up there for truck driving school a couple weeks ago I was like what i wanted to go with you, i wanted to see what the park is like when theres NO ONE there. hahaha

I can't decide on how I like the Boardwalk area.. I have to see it myself. Right now all I can see is the massive amounts of concrete where there used to be some trees and grass...

I hope those little smoking gazebos are well ventilated--could get pretty nasty in there pretty quick.

I noticed they took off the 2 hour wait from this point sign at the entrance to Sidewinder. I guess with it no longer being the star attraction in the park, it will never get a full queue again.

I don't understand, so where is Canyon River Rapids' new entrance? is it closer to Rodeo now? I can't really tell from the picture.

The new entrance is not anywhere near where the Rodeo is now, it's right next to where the on-ride photo booth was which is directly across from the Frontier Shoot-Out slides are. Isn't the Tidal Force entrance re-routed too?

Actually the Nathan's stand next to kissing tower is not there anymore. neither is the wok and roll. building is still there just not the restaurant

Oh yeah! When I went back in December Wok & Roll was closed! I forgot about that!

 

Well, I heard that another attraction's entrance was moved. I couldn't of been Roller Soaker. Could you see FlowRider and Bayside Pier?

The building that was the Wok and Roll now is a restaurant called the Gourmet Grille. It has food from several regions, similar to the International Food Court at Knoebels except more expensive (although some of the servings are bigger) and without any Chinese food. I had a chicken burrito that was large and flavorful, but not very warm, for $8, and a bowl of creamy chicken and broccoli soup that was delicious but small for $4. My girlfriend had a plate of pasta that was average, I don't remember what it cost but I'm guessing $5-$6. (On the other hand, if I remember rightly, they had chicken fingers for less than the Minetown Restaurant's ridiculous price.)

 

When I was there around 5:30 on Friday it was pretty dead, while the Minetown Restaurant (the only other indoor place to eat? -- please correct me if I'm wrong) was packed. I don't know if this had anything to do with Great Bear, the Kissing Tower, and the Falcons being closed.

Cool pics! I remeber the whole "River Rampage" line being kind of odd. The entrance was sort of wedged into its spot, but now it has a little facade. The in-line conessions will be missed.

 

The Boardwalk looks great! I always knew they would do something big with that patch of grass between Lightning Racers and Roller Soaker. Now, the gap is filled in.

 

Hey, does anyone else think that the black slide on the "East Coast Waterworks" complex look sort of wicked?

It does kind of look thrilling with that final drop at the end. I can't wait to see the 2007 park map.
