Homer Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 My SheiKra video [the original] The STOLEN video. Well, I was browsing YouTube looking at new BGT videos and I stumbled upon this (after watching a camel sex video, better than turtle sex ). On a serious serious note, I noticed that my SheiKra video has been stolen. With the use of cutting edge technology from Microsoft's fine Movie Maker program, adding a title and chopping off my credits to neuter my video and claim it as his own. I posted that same exact video in the Amateur forum last Februrary. I got a YouTube account over the summer and that was my first video that I uploaded. Any good legal action I could take?
Blazen_AZN Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Any good legal action I could take? Yes. Message him and tell him to take it off...
SharkTums Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Yeah, message him, and YouTube. We get this all the time with our stuff.
Homer Posted February 15, 2007 Author Posted February 15, 2007 Minor update... Victory for me! Hi, i am sorry for uploading a video belonging to you. I was unaware of how serious it was and i will remove the video now, sorry for the inconvience, Peter. Looks like I taught him that plagarism is a serious crime too. And everybody, the bashing was not really necessary.
mcjaco Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 That's one of the better stories, Homer. I found one of my videos posted on YouTube by another TPR member, no less. I asked that they take it down, and they asked why. Because you never asked permission to put it up, that's why. It went round and round for a awhile until they relented. What pissed me off is I found my video linked to YouTube on another fan website. So I found it through a third party, which led me to the YouTube posting. Now I check about once a month just to make sure it hasn't reappeared.
BarryH Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 What I'm doing now is when I post a video on TPR, I also post it on YouTube. I don't know if this will prevent people from posting my stuff as their own, but I have a feeling it does. I think searching YouTube for people posting your videos would be time-consuming, as the site has a ton of videos.
benzo41190 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I have a nice batch of videos that I am posting in a few weeks. I am putting water marks on all of them so that way no on will try to steal it. The water mark will just be a picture of me on the top right corner. I had someone steal my trampoline video that was on here. I was looking for funny videos on YouTube and I saw my video. I posted a link of the actual video from here as a comment.....He then deleted it.
Corkscrewed Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I started posting my vids on YouTube as well as my website after I found out a person had ripped off my Halloween Haunt vid. I messaged YouTube, and it was taken down within a week and a half. That was a good feeling.
robbalvey Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I honestly think that watermarking a video is one of the worst things you can do. It just ruins the image, IMO. It is really worth it for the random few people who might steal it? And honestly, does the watermark REALLY stop people from stealing your video? No, it doesn't. You just have to be good at scouring the internet and if you do find your video, simply ask the person to remove it. Personally I really don't care that much if one of our videos ends up someplace else. It's kind of flattering, and lately I'll just ask people to please post a link and give us credit rather than taking it down. Hey, at least our videos might get seen by more people! --Robb
mcjaco Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 ^ It's one thing to repost the video in it's original form. It's entirely another to chop off the credits, etc. and then repost it. I was flattered to find my videos elsewhere, but is it really that hard to just PM someone here and ask????
