Wackyboxer Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Hey Robb & Elissa, Have you ever thought about making a video tribute to coasters that are no longer in existence? I think it'd be cool to pay homage to some of the great coasters of bygone days. I was listening to a song on the radio this morning called "Gone" by a country duo called Montgomery Gentry and it rocks pretty good, so I thought it would be a good choice for a video tribute. It's just a thought.
SharkTums Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Yeah... but I want to use Nsync's "Bye Bye Bye"! Most of the coasters taken down recently haven't been worth a video segment, but it's definitely something we've considered! Elissa "silly old coasters!" Alvey
robbalvey Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 ^ Yeah, I mean that's kind of the problem. If there's a coaster that's gone either either A. do we have any footage of it? B. is it actually worth doing a video of? I did a video of Clementon's Jack Rabbit, an old 1919 wooden coaster that's gone forever and no one seemed to care.... However the Wacky Soap Box Racers video has been very well received. I considered doing a video of Hercules, but the footage I had was pretty bad, so I decided against it. I guess I could always post a Windjammer video, but again, is it really worth the trouble? So that kind of sums it up...how many coasters that have been demolished in the past 5 to 10 years are worth doing a video of? --Robb "In one day of the Powder Keg video I got more downloads than the 2 years the Clementon Jack Rabbit video has been up." Alvey
Wackyboxer Posted May 12, 2005 Author Posted May 12, 2005 It's understandable that Powder Keg did so well with it being brand new. As with most things, the majority of people don't really care about the things of the past, they only seem interested in whatever is the newest or fastest or tallest or whatever. I personally think that people could learn to have a greater appreciation for coasters (and most other things) if they spent just a little time learning about the predecessors of today's wooden and steel behemoths. Also, I realize that, with all the great content that TPR offers, bandwidth is at a premium and also the lack of usable footage of past glories makes making a video of this type appear to be an effort in futility and perhaps it is when you consider the possibility of the lack of positive response that it might get. If nothing else, hopefully it's an idea that will remain somewhere in the back of your collectively brilliant minds, and perhaps, at some point in the future, you will have enough footage and the coaster community at large will have enough interest for you to produce such a video. I want to thank you both for all your hard work and dedication to TPR and I look forward, with great anticipation, to all of your future efforts. Keep Up The Great Work!
BarryH Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 How about a video of Buzzsaw Falls? I kind of liked that one. I have video of the Starliner.
CoasterFanatic Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 ^ There is a really good bonus segment on the "Greatest Rollercoaster Thrills" DVD. It is the one with the Hulk on the cover.
robbalvey Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 We did a Buzzsaw Falls segment on our Volume 3 DVD. --Robb "We can't post everything on the website!" Alvey
joshg678 Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 there is also one on the superstar limo ride thingy on one of the dvd's, i forget which one it was.
thunder001 Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I have a on ride video of the Thunderbolt from Dreamworld lying around somewhere if you guys would like it. Should also have a bit of off ride footage as well of the ride, with a few still pictures of the demolition of the ride as well. Let me know if you are interested in the footage.
What Now Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Do you have any Screechin' Eagle (Americana) footage?
Jeezus Juice Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 I have a copy of Chef Mayhems' Disneyland Extinct Attractions video. It even has on ride of the rocket rods plus tons of old commercials like Circus Fantasy '88 and County Fair Days. And some people don't believe me when I say that Disneyland use to have a ferris wheel. I was thinking of putting it on DVD and making it available because obviously doombuggies.com doesen't seem to offer it anymore. Jeezus "In '91 Disneyland admission was $23!" Juice
