IceDragon Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 i've taken photography as a course this year and the topic is 'Freedom'. I'm hoping to try and incorperate it with roller coasters, but i cant seem to find a link between rides and freedom if you can see a link, please post!!!! PS: Robb, youre my main influence
Guest Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 You could use drop towers because they sorta get the free fall sensation. I am sure roller coasters mean freedom to most of us. Maybe finding a roller coaster that has minimal restraints as more of a freedom. Meh, it's too early in the morning for me to be thinking.
FlyingScooter Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Flying coaster give a sense of freedom. If that doesn't work, take black and whites of unique headstones and statues in cemetaries. My daughter did that for her 'freedom' photo essay and aced it. Got credit for original/artist thinking.
USRoadTripper Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 What about a Skycoaster? Might be difficult if you don't live near one. One other thing I can think about with freedom would be a natural background (mountains, ocean, whatever) with a close up of a man's hand with an unbuttoned shirt sleeve, holding a tie. That's like freedom from responsibility or conformity. You could also use an amusement park background! -Julie
disneyfan1313 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 If you are strictly thinking coasters, the first one that comes to mind in the UK is Air. The name and the flying concept alone brings to mind freedom. You could also take a photo of a young child playing happily in a park and have it as freedom from responsibilities in the world.
GMAN962 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Here's an idea. First bet is a flying coaster. No flying coasters near you? Then do this: Go to your nearest big roller coaster. Take pictures of the train every time it goes by. Look at each of your photos, and the photo with the most hands up could represent freedom, and all. -Mike "Just a Thought!" J
VegasCoaster Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I'd say if you can get a really clear shot very close up to the train on a bunny hop that would work. Think it'd work best in b&w.
Louise Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Do you get to submit a piece of writing with the photographs? Because honestly, in essay form it would be more than easy to convince your teacher that even just being in a park can represent freedom, and then you could use pictures of basically any ride or coaster you wanted, from all over the park.
onewheeled999 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Based on the Freedom thing, I immediately think of a front-row seat shot of the bottom of the lift hill of Giant Dipper, so that you're looking up through the tunnel at the flag on top. I don't know why this came to mind.
IceDragon Posted February 10, 2007 Author Posted February 10, 2007 thanks for all the ideas! we have to analyze the image, say how it shows freedom etc (mines going to be freedom through movement, so its going to include rides, dancing, etc) just a little more information: I live in Essex, England. 2+ hours from any Madame Tussauds theme parks, but i can get the train to Adventure Island. I'm going to end up making a compilation of film and static of on-ride (hopefully) and off-ride action, which means i will need to add high tempo techno/rock music (any suggestions, please post here) you can be included in this too, all you need to do is post an image of yourself and a few images you have taken of anything that moves (nothing too rude please) thanks all who have helped so far!

Calvin Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 If your teacher is overly patriotic just take photo of a flag and superimpose it on something patriotic and save the coasters for a better project.
darklingscribe Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 If you want your pictures to look unique try taking some shots on a holga camera. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holga A very strange, but cheap camera which I might be getting just to fool around with.
