gax Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Not sure if this will be big news for you over in the US, but Reverchon have been charged with failing to ensure a ride's safe design and construction. This is because of a death on the spinning mouse at Lightwater Valley in 2001. Full story here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/north_yorkshire/6160067.stm
stormrider Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 The whole point of quality tests is to check for the flaws like this. I'm glad that Reverchon has been found guilty (I rode Primeval Whirl and I can't imagine how jerky it was to be involved in that crash in Lightwater). They really should have taken extra scrutiny when checking the ride, if indeed the problem was caused before the ride was opened to the public, IMO. Edit-Oh yeah, welcome to the boards And if you've been reading the forums before signing up to make a post (like I did when I started) then congrats on making your first post.
the sound Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Hmmmmm. I'm not sure if Reverchorn were really guilty. I think it was Lightwater Valley's fault for not ensuring that there mechanics checked over this ride. The Mechanic even Admitted it. I don't really think it was Reverchorn's flaw. But, i would need to know more information. I don't live in the UK. There would probably be more information there.
pvcoasterguy Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 ^ However, Reverchon was negelgent in the fact that they didn't check over their construction closely enough, which eventually led to the accident.

LV have admitted breaching H&S and some of the blame will lie with them for not picking up on the fault, but ultimately it is the fault of the manufacturer for supplying a faulty product.

Yes, that is true i guess. I think it was Reverchron's fault just as much as Lightwater Valley's fault then.
bgwfreak Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I was kind of surprised they found them guilty. But I do see the court's point, if they did in fact manufacturer a faulty wiring system on the coaster then they were partly to blame.
