bgwfreak Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I have loved this series since the first season (the new version). It's not your typical sci-fi show and there's a lot in there to think about each week. Any fans out there?
Meteornotes Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I enjoy it. I thought the season finale last year was a HORRIBLE mis-step, but they've redeemed themselves with the shows this season. I don't think the show is as good as it was the first year and a half, but it does continue to entertain. I honestly didn't watch it for awhile, as all I remember about the old show was a kid and a robot dog (I can't remember if the dog talked or not, which would potentially make it even more horrible). Anyway, when Sci-Fi ran a marathon of them, I recorded them all to the DVR and saved them for when Mary was away on a trip. I sat down one day to watch one at lunch time, and found myself quickly addicted. This is NOTHING like the old show, other than some similar character names and situations. It is very dark, often violent, and often a parallel of things going on in our world. And major characters occasionally die, which is always a good thing. Though there was at least one dumb TV save at one point last year, so occasionally the writers do resort to the standard TV playbook. For those that have not seen the show yet, I highly recommend renting the DVDs. The original minseries is kind of rough, but the first full season kicks an amazing amount of ass. dt
mcjaco Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Dave, There was a robotic dog in the original. I don't think it talked, just made stupid faces when the characters talked to it. Kind of like Barkley on Sesame Street. I actually had a couple of action figures from the original show, like the stupid robotic dog! I loved the evil robot guys and their Kitt like eye.
pagemaster_b Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I remember watching the original series as a kid. When I finally got around to watching the new one, it blew me out of the water. They corrected a lot of the story/plot problems within the original series and switched some of the Mormon references to Greek mythology. I haven't had a chance to see the second half of season two, so please, no spoilers.
buttonman700 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 We both dig the new BSG. have bought the DVD sets for both the first and second season (even though the split the second seson into two boxed sets!) It's nice to see a show that takes a few risks, and thi one does just that, take the opening shots from season 3... whoa! If you're not a BSG fan, but like good sci-fi this is for you.
bgwfreak Posted November 16, 2006 Author Posted November 16, 2006 I haven't had a chance to see the second half of season two, so please, no spoilers. Everyone dies. Sorry.
gisco Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I got hooked on the show last year when we were on the TPR UK trip. My son had downloaded all the episodes to his Ipod and we watched them on the bus and at night for 2 weeks. We managed to get thru them all but the 2nd season finale. I bought the DVD's on a bigger screen this last summer. I'm with Dave, I think the end of last year was a bit of a stumble but it looks like it is improving this year.
NitroRider Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Battle Star Galactica is my favorite tv show besides Family Guy. I like the realism, likke when they are in Vipers, if they turn a direction, you see a rocket thruster go off and push it that direction.
