Guest Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I'm not going to write up a huge discription, I'll just say that I have put a lot of time into this project. It's huge, and the only auto supports are simple, and heavily modded. Everything else is custom. This ride should be done by this Sunday, unless I run into any huge problems. What I have left to do: Some catwalks, handrails, 2 spots of lat support and track support modding, and a station (which will be pretty simple, most likely like Hades' station except with an indoor staircase. It sounds like it will take a long time but it shouldn't.) So yeah, pics. Download should be up this weekend. Btw, the ride doesn't have a name yet. The "Autosupports Suck" project title thing is kind of an inside joke with some Coastersims members.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 How did you get the catwalk piece by itself?
Guest Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Lots of paitence. Because of the dense custom supports, and some reprofiling of track after the supports were finalized, the catwalks and handrails dont come out positioned how they are supposed to be. So I'm doing them in sections and modding them. How to do it: Select all > track settings > auto supports > ONLY check individual supports. Then, go back to edit mode (press M), and select a "section" of track that you want supported. Check off the atributes you want, then go to the support generator. If you've already done custom work that you dont want to lose, uncheck clear previous structure. Also uncheck enable supports. Then generate final. It should come out with only one section with catwalks/handrails (whatever you checked off). It takes a bit of messing around with, so I would practice on a test track or something you dont care about messing up. However thats the basic idea behind it.
leighton Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 How do you also get the steel support structures? That's something i have always wondered, is it built with auto supports or by hand?
Guest Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 It's pretty simple, just an enviorment file and replaced beams using the editor's "replace selected beam" tool. I've included instructions and the enviorment file in a zip file which you can download below. Any comments on the ride itself? cci_steel.zip
Guest Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 The Nltrack file isn't in the folder. I know.... unless you want the ride half supported... It's not out yet. That was just the steel structure enviorment that someone asked for.
PCW FREAK Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Looking pretty good so far! the supports are really cool and the name rules. ^spamm!
Guest Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Not much of an update, but it's somewhat of a step forward as it's starting to look like a coaster now. After some interesting manipulation of the auto supporter, we have some catwalks and handrails. I've got a pretty good technique for this, so it should go smooth from here. It doesn't look like much, but if you saw what went into doing this it would be appreciated. Thanks for the feedback.... -Freddie Edit: Lifthill in progress here
Guest Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Sorry to bump this again, but I've just made a major track revision, removing the third 90* bank and putting in a very diverse lightly banked turn. The turn changes banking and height 4 times so it throws you a round quite a bit. I took the third 90 out because it felt very forced. It rounded slow, and had negative lateral force (falling to the side of the train thats lower to the ground). This new turn seems a lot nicer and better fit for the speed it had. this was the last major part that needed lateral support, and I have been putting it off because I wasn't sure from the begining. Just for refrence, this was the part that was taken out. The new turn should be very easy to support, and it makes for a nice entrance area aswell (whereas with the 90, you would be looking at ugly obscure supports). Comments appreciated.... thanks.
Real Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 You couldnt even give credit to the guy who innovated that environment? That saddens me. BTW I would match the color of the track to the wood on the supports since its pretty much the same type of wood. Looks really goofy as is. Especially since its almost got pink in it.
Guest Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Heh, sorry, didn't even know if you were around on here (I believe I did give credit on CS). And yup, I'll be fixing the colors of the rails to match, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for the comments...
Real Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Awww come on, Im everywhere! I just lurk in the shadows. Good thing for the color. I kept looking trying to figure out why it looked so strange then it hit me. Ride looks pretty good with a few interesting turns. Supports look great as well.
Guest Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Three more pics of nothing important... Last turn getting it's ledgers, Midcorse hill with some crazy air in the back seat, "The Raven Turn". Colors matched a bit better, still no name, should be out Sunday (if anyone wants a pre-run as it is now, just ask.. I'll send the file).
BiCoastal Kid Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Oh man, can I jump on that pre-run bandwagon? I'd like to reference this for the supports I have to do on my ride. If I may, please.
