flyingspin
Warning: I like to take pics of objects without people around them. If you like ghost towns, you might enjoy this trip report. Visited July 2006, first-thing on a Sunday morning. my next photo TR: Adventure City! A little bit of everything: chair lift, ferris wheel, some kind of spider ride. Take a good look and notice the track for this dark ride. Painful ticket price for the haunted house. Hey, there's people in this picture, darn it! The ghost pirate ride. Spooky. Another shot of the ghost pirate ride. Here's a fun (?) house. Beatles impersonator Robbie Simmons. Check out his cheeezy website: robbie simmons site: http://www.sandiegoprn.com/New_Vintage.html Yummy fair junk food concession Scary clown trash bin The most thrilling (and probably dangerous) ride at the fair: The Hi-Miler. Another shot of the Hi-Miler. Aawww, the little dipper coaster. Good ole reliable (?) snake coaster Good ole reliable (?) dragon coaster. No, wait--that's the snake coaster. The spinning wild mouse coaster. Actually the safest-looking ride in the park--it had decent supports, compared to the other carnie coasters. lonely track Mega ferris wheel near the fair exit. Movieguy
Hehe, aren't all carnival darkrides the same? It looks promising on the outside, but inisde it's just total rubbish. But I'm going to the New York State Fair again soon, and I could look at the outside of their darkrides forever...they have great murals painted on things up around here...must be all the italian people in this area. Gnome
I went to the OC fair this year, as well. I hadn't been in a long time, and after going this time I realized that fairs are a crappy place, and I'm never going back. You can't make me! Calvin
What big flats did you notice? I'm just curious about what'll be at the State Fair. I heard rumours of a Mondial Swinger but I seriously doubt that. Haha, Cuckoo Haus. That's the one with the GIANT BOOB LADY and the floors that drop (scared the crap out of my sister with those). USRoadTripper
Why does the Tennessee State Fair look so, so ghetto compared to other fairs? -Julie

I heard rumours of a Mondial Swinger but I seriously doubt that. Haha, Cuckoo Haus. That's the one with the GIANT BOOB LADY and the floors that drop (scared the crap out of my sister with those). I noticed the crazy thrill rides that have over the shoulder harnesses and whip the riders around, kind of like Knights Tournament (Legoland)--one was next to the spinning wild mouse ride. Anyway, I had to look up "Mondial Swinger" (found it at http://www.flatrides.com), and I don't think it was at the OC Fair this year. The old Himalaya ride was there, but I didn't get a photo. I do remember that it was really beat up, and many of the seats were covered in duct tape. Ha, Giant Boob Lady--she's still at the Cuckoo House alright! flyingspin
Why does the Tennessee State Fair look so, so ghetto compared to other fairs? -Julie I've gotta add the OC Fair was really clean when I visited this year, but it was a Sunday morning at opening time. The lemonade stands shaped like lemons had stacks of cases of lemons at their doors, the carnies were just waking up--it was quite charming. ; - )
ECZenith
What's funny is those cheap carnival dark rides usually generate more actual scares than most expensive theme park haunted houses. Yes the details are much better but a blast of air to the face or a loud horn in the dark can actually make me jump. I actually rode a pretty well themed carny house last year at the New England fair, it was short but had all new props and they all worked! I'll never forget the NY State Fair (Startes Shows) and their dark rides. They had one with the twisting lift as seen in your photo TR but there was like NO props and it wasn't even dark. Where the final scare scene was supposed to be was two dirty mattresses and blankets, presumably where a few carnies slept. What a ripoff! stormrider
Those are the exact same rides at the California State Fair, so they must be the same company or something before they came up here. Well, that's how traveling fairs work
Calvin
That's exactly how it works. Both the OC fair and the CA State fair are done by Ray Cammack Shows (their website sucks and has been "under construction" for about two years). RCS covers a huge amount of land, with large fairs in Texas, Arizona, and up and down California. They are noted for their clean fairground, sky ride, and massive ferris wheel, along with their spinning mouse and Hi-Miler.
Jew
The Mondial Swinger was at the Del Mar fair because that is an independent midway. I doubt it'll be at the state fair, since that is exclusively RCS.
