If you do the boat Derek pictured or the Cave of the winds walk then yeah, you'll get pretty wet. Up top.. not so much. And YES, Silver Comet rocks. Especially for $8.

the entrance looks exactly like what the Crystal Beach Comets used to.

aaah that's cool! I really liked the station, it had a signature shot built-in

Is it really Necessary to make fun of overweight women (not once but twice) just so you can feel better about yourself?

You know not everybody weighs 125 lbs and I am sure all the Women over 125lbs on this board really thought that was Hysterical.

Hell, I bet they can't wait till they see you at a park and see what funny things you have to say about them in your pictures the next day.

You don't know who's Mother, Sister, etc. your taking a picture of at a park or if they come here or not. And don't you think that qualifies as a personal attack on somebody?

But I guess the TOS rules don't apply to Derek as we found out last week.

^ Oh so true. Seriously guys, posting pics of anonymous "overweight" park patrons and then mocking them is pretty much 5th grade material. For all you know, that could actually be a fellow TPR member's relative your publicly making fun of. Kinda sad if you ask me. And the whole "oh, look, a whale must've escaped the tank gag" is getting kind of lame too. Maybe this isn't my place to say, and perhaps I'll be looked down on because I'm not part of the inner sanctum of TPR originals, but save that childish behaviour for off camera situations.

I mean, if it's fair game to make fun of anyone on here, then I say everyone should be fair game. I probably wouldn't resort to bringing myself to that level, but God knows, I, like many on here, could unload on certain members if given the opportunity.

^ Nicole, people who know me, know that I can indeed. But pkdcoaster makes a valid point, and it's one that I back 100%. Would you like it if we targeted everyone you know who had a flaw, and ripped them for the world to see? All we're asking for is a little decency and respect. Is that too much to ask for?

I know full well that I'm not a favorite of most in here, and that's fine with me, but a forum is for opinions, right?

Can't you take ANYTHING as a joke?? Sheesh!

Would those Women or their Husbands think it was very funny?

Would you take it as a joke if something like that was said about you?????

You should treat others like YOU want to be treated (common decency)

It is one thing to say something privately among friends but to publicly blast somebody on the internet is something else!!!

Yes.

I'm sorry if I'm interpreting this all the wrong way, but it seems like you do not like Derek and are just looking for reasons to attack him.

It's none of my business, I'll stay out of it from now on. Sorry.

And let me also follow by saying that I actually enjoy Derek's TRs. He takes good pics of places I may never get to see, and judging by the number of views each one gets, I'm not alone on that sentiment. So again, is it too much to ask that he shows a little respect for anonymous park goers?

*coughs* There is absolutely no reason to be that fat, and if they dont like it, they could go on a diet or start actually doing something other than sitting on the couch all day. I can almost understand if you are 10-15 lbs maybe a little more overweight, but being a hundred or more lbs overweight is just sad.

So you're syaing they shouldn't try to lose wieght? They should get fatter and fatter until they're so fat they can't move? Being overwight and obesity in general is a huge peroblem, I think it's time people start doing something about it and go on a diet. So many health problems spawn from being overwight, how many times have doctors warned people? Get off the gorram couch and go to the gym.

I have always said that we're "equal opprotunity offenders" and we make fun of everyone, but usually ourselves first. If popular TV shows like South Park and Family Guy can do it on a regular basis, so can we. Heck, even the lastest Capital One national ad campaign made fun of fat people!

And we're just as guilty of it. Look at our photo from Sea World with Elissa and "Shamu"

http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19215

Or our trip to Laughlin:

http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21626&start=99

And yes, the TOS applies to Derek, as it does to you too Jeff, as it does to everyone, which is why I removed the flame war last week. And if this one continues, I'll remove it too.

Please feel free to state your opinions here, that's fine. A post stating what you don't like about a park, a ride, someone's TR, etc, with a civil discussion following is totally acceptable, but following up with multiple posts in a negative tone is flaming someone/something, etc.

We don't allow flame wars. PERIOD. Take to PM. It doesn't belong here.

Please let's not start this again. I don't want to have to ban people that I really like.

Robb, I think the point that is lost on all of this is that the targets of these jokes are real people with real faces that are being bashed in an open public forum. I think all of us in here respond well to the ribbing we give each other. All of us understand we mean nothing by it when we kidd with each other (ex: your patch jacket thread).

And when you eluded to Family Guy, or South Park, you gotta realize that the targets of those jokes are generally celebrities, or simple generalizations of people rather than specific individuals. And even when a person's likeness is used for public broadcast, that said individual normally has to give prior persmission for their image to be used (aside from the obvious ways cartoons use a person's likeness). Of course there's no need to dig deeper here and get down to brass tacks, but it's just a matter of respect towards people we don't know personally.

I'm just as guilty of secretly thinking disrepectful thoughts occasionally when I know I shouldn't. I'm not perfect by any means, but I'd never even think to take someone's picture without their consent and then proceed to tear them down in an open public forum. If anything, it's simply rude. Like pkdcoaster mentioned, you never know who may be related to that person. Would you or anyone else not feel bad if you find out that the person you displayed was a relative of a loyal TPR member?

I won't drag this on. No matter how much I disagree with someone in here, I never want to resort to a flame war. I just felt it was a bit out of bounds, and unfair to photograph and display any unknowing park patrons, you know? I'll let it go now. No worries.

I wasn't trying to be mean or an ass or anything, but I really hope people know the health risks and stuff, I wasn't making fun of people who are overweight and the like, I was just trying to say that they should consider trying to lose weight. My brother was overweight, but he lost all of it, so I know it can be done.

Glad to see Derek has joined the throng of Silver Comet lovers here on TPR. As far as I'm concerned, it (as well as New Mexico Rattler) is the most underrated roller coaster ever built.

Your never wrong for having an opinion. I've always said that I want people to be able to come here and express their thoughts and opinions about something in a civil manner, it's when it starts getting out of control that it becomes against our TOS.

When we took our "Shamu" photos, most people thought they were HILARIOUS, as did we, but some people expressed opinions otherwise, and that's fine. We listened. Are we going to stop doing those types of updates? No. But we do listen to what people have to say.

Like they said in Wayne's World "I mean Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees" we don't expect everyone to like our updates or find them funny. We *DO* poke fun at people...all the time...and that's one of the things that people say they like about this site. And if you can't take a joke, or you think our humor goes beyond our offensive limits, there are other sites out there which stick to photos of track and bolts.

I love hearing the feedback, but that doesn't mean we'll act on everyone's opinions regarding the content that is posted here.

Hope that makes sense to everyone.

Makes perfect sense to me. Heck, if I was easily offended by half of the stuff you guys post, I wouldn't have stuck around for 700+ posts, right? Usually I do a pretty good job of turning my head and ignoring what I feel is ignorance, and I'm not expecting anyone to bend 100% to my beliefs either. It was simply an opinion I couldn't hold back on this particular subject. Glad we're pretty much on the same page.

its rude and disrespectful to not only make fun of someone behind their back, but its just rotten to do it publicly on a message board where the person has absolutely no way to defend themselves against a personal attack like that.

at least if you did it in front of them, they would have the chance to bitch slap you or kick derek where it counts.

i find it rude and disrespectful and ashamed to consider people like that acquaintances.

How would you feel if a group of people started saying you had an eating disorder?

please, dont even encourage personal insults over pm. a personal attack is a personal attack no matter how you slice it. if someone is sensitive about something, whether it is a group of people saying it to them, or just one person - if it hurts their feelings, the damage is done
