nasai Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I realize this is insane, but I've mentioned this to a few of you. I am going skydiving for my 40th birthday, September 30th, near Seattle. Since I live nearby, it kinds of makes sense. That said, I'd like to invite those of you that know me (which I imagine isn't many at this site, save Robb), have the time, and the funds to get out here, and the insanity to do it. Outside of the freefall itself, I'll pay for your food while you're here for the day, along with the hotel, if you can't afford it. It's not going to be fancy, but it'll be a motel six, etc. It's a Saturday, so there aren't too many excuses. This is also a great time to come out for a final weekend at Silverwood or PNE. Again, I'll pay for the food/party for the day, and the hotel at night (up to 10 of you), but you're on your own for the skydiving, and flight. I'll be around, but you best email me. I need to know asap, as I have to reserve the day with the crew. Check out http://www.skydivekapowsin.com/ We'll be jumping from 13,000ft tandem, and we'll be next to snow covered mountains... not hills. Let me know. I need to know ASAP. Rob
thrillrideseeker Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 OMG Im going sky diving over spring break! Let me know if you enjoy it!
nasai Posted August 3, 2006 Author Posted August 3, 2006 I know I will. Granted, I'm already terrified, and planning it so far in advance doesn't help that, but it'll be great. If I could just calm my wife...
BeemerBoy Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I went skydiving on the morning of my 21st B-day in Homestead, FL. It sucked. Well, to be fair, it was pretty much due to the instructor I had to tandem dive with. First of all, the guy was about a foot shorter than me, which was funny in it's own right.....imagine trying to walk or move around strapped to someone that much shorter than you. But yeah, it was this British guy who had been out drinking in the local pub the night before, and showed up that morning with a horrible hangover. He actually slept through the entire ride up to 13,000 feet. We had to wake him up when we hit the drop zone!! But anyway, he ended up pulling the cord about 15 seconds into the jump. I kid you not, we had enough time to spin a little bit, pose for the video cameraman, and then he pulled the ripcord. The jolt from the cord being pulled was kinda fun, and scary at the same time, but watching the cameraman freefall through the clouds was not....considering that probably should of been us too. Yeah, hanging in midair strapped to some dude you don't know (and may fall asleep at any moment) for 10 freakin' minutes was not that enjoyable. You kinda run out of things to say real soon. So, when you go, be sure to ask them how long the freefall will be. I'm not sure what altitude they're allowed to let you fall to, but I'm pretty positive we never even got close to it!
verticalzero Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 This is something I would never do as the chute would not open if I tried it. It's bad enough going on a Vertical Drop Tower let alone 13,000 feet's worth I'll probally go to a Theme Park for my 40th and have VIP treatment. Good luck with your jump and enjoy your 40th..
bgwfreak Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I've heard that you can actually pay to take a flight on an F-16. I'd love to do that on my 40th (in 6 years *shudders*) or if that falls through I'd go for skydiving on my 40th. Have fun!
Rollerholden Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I think this might belong in the Random forumd... But skydiving really does look like fun. I hope I get to do it sometime in my life...it looks like one of the best thrills out there. Is it like zero gravity the whole way down?
goleafsgo Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 i think it is once you reach terminal velocity...
BeemerBoy Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 ^^ Quite the opposite, actually. There's so much pressure against you that I even found it tough to breathe at first. Just stick a windtunnel fan up your nose, and you'll get the idea.
Rambler Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Happy upcoming birthday Rob! Skydiving is a hoot, I did a static line jump while in college. It was definately a great time, but I don't feel the need to go again at this moment. Same goes for bungy jumping. Definately enjoyable, but don't feel the need to risk my life at this point (I'm going to be a daddy soon ). I don't think I'm going to be in the area for your birthday. Heck, I'm only making it back to Portland since I graduated law school later this month. Hoping to pick up a couple of credits that I skipped while I lived up there. Interesting running into you over here. I've been lurking a while as that which is forbidden only tempts me more. Mike - who is still using an obscure musical references for my moniker
nasai Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 Interesting to see you here, that is true. That said, yes, it'd be great to have any of you along. I'll do my best, as it were. Hopefully, I won't literally poop the ol' pants. It does frighten me, honestly, but I'm sure I'll love it. BTW, my kids are still at home, and I'm going. Where does this leave you?
Jumboshrmp Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I hope to go Skydiving for my 18th Birthday (the minimum age). I will probably do tandem, but it would be awesome to do accelerated freefall on my first time (jump with two other instructors and not tandem). The thought scares me too. I still wanna do it some day. Check out YouTube. There are a ton of awesome skydiving videos there
