New Major Theme Park for Fort Myers!!?
BeemerBoy replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
...unless the place never gets built. Which it won't. Fort Myers? Must've been "promised" some pretty nice tax breaks. At the roller coaster museum (or whatever it is), they need to have an exhibit dedicated to all the dimwitted park ideas and concepts over the years that never made it past the concept art phase......and a special wing reserved for Hard Freestyle Park, of course. -
Lake Winnie's brand new 5-acre water park, "SOAKya," opened today.....and TPR was there to cover it for ya! The multi-million dollar expansion features: * Adventure River with Beach Lagoon * 7 body and tube slides * Three distinct swimming pool areas, including a kids pool * Retail and concessions * Changing area with l.ockers Ticket Price: Included in park-admission - two great parks at one low price! $26/10 for children under 10 and seniors when SoakYa in not open. $31.95/15.95 during SoakYa's season (Memorial Day thru Labor Day) Okay, first impressions. This expansion was very much needed, not only for the park, but the region as a whole. Most people being interviewed today agreed that a two hour drive north or south (Dollywood or Six Flags Whitewater) becomes frustrating after a while. Therefore, families in the area are gonna love this place during the summer! Make no mistake, seasoned water park fans won't be blown away by anything at SoakYa, but for a small family owned park like Lake Winnie, it's the absolute perfect step in the right direction. While no details were divulged concerning the years to come, this is considered "Phase 1," in what can only be surmised as an optimistic future outlook for the park as a whole. In my humble opinion, I'd expect record numbers this summer, followed by a very positive future for Lake Winnie! Great thanks to all of Lake Winnie's staff for their wonderful hospitality on an excellent Opening Day! On to the pics.... The parking lot in the upper right is where SoakYa is now located. A look at the entrance from within the rides side of the park. There were plenty of tables, chairs, and umbrellas around. The train route now has a stop right at the entrance to SoakYa. And it's officially open!! FOOD!!! Food and drink prices. Showers/restrooms/changing areas/and l.ockers off to the right. It's great to float by the Cannonball now! The lazy river was pretty good in design. In fact, don't be surprised if it's dialed back a bit or cranked up a notch, with everyone given a life jacket, a la Aquatica's "speed" river. Two body slides and two tube slides. Again, nothing groundbreaking, but remember, this is just "Phase 1." Kiddie area. Plenty of shades areas to lounge. Walking across Coke product bottle caps = win! At the furthest part of the park you can see plenty of room for future expansion. "Zero entry" portion of the lazy river. Gift shop. Cannonball is still a really fun out and back woodie! Thanks again to Lake Winnie for a great day! SoakYa is a perfect addition, and the future of the park looks really good!

Rich parents skipping lines at Disney!
BeemerBoy replied to GrapesLie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Agreed. A disabled person capitalizing on their disability in this way is not exactly on the moral high road. I could see a disabled person having the mindset of "I have been cursed with this unfortunate condition, I may as well make some profit off it". While I can sympathize, renting yourself out to help wealthy people avoid waiting in line is morally ambiguous at best. Take my sister as an example. She had her entire left arm amputated as part of cancer treatment back in 2004. She went to Six Flags Magic Mountain with some friends, and was told by guest relations that she could take advantage of a disabled pass (along with her friends). She chose not to do it, as she thought that would be taking advantage of her disability. Now, she can obviously stand in long lines, as her body is perfectly intact in every other way. However, the juxtaposition of my sister and someone using their disability to make money makes it difficult to approve in any way of this profiteering. Why are rich 1% saving money anyways? It seems silly for multi millionaires to be saving $1000 a day, while on a 4 day trip. Um, what? Honestly, what does your point (confusing as it is) have anything to do with the text you quoted? -

A) I've been around and worked for my fair share of the 1%, and there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that this exists in some form. As long as extremely wealthy, morally devoid people can spend money to distance themselves from the 99%, things like this will happen. It's not widespread by any means, but it happens. B) Where's all the hatred towards the other side of the equation? It takes two to tango, and the act of whoring out handicapped services is just as reprehensible in my book. -
To be fair to Carnival (God, did I actually say that?), it's just bad timing for a situation that is unfortunately somewhat "common" amongst all cruise lines. People go missing rather frequently. It just happens, and it's not the cruise lines' responsibility to hold each passenger's hand during their vacation.

Reed, it's TPRScott, but no worries about repaying. I'm a bit too far from my goal, so I'm resigned to dropping eggs in others' town who really need 'em. I should have another 100 to distribute soon.
-
I realize I'm far too far off from my goal, so I'm content to just keep randomly dumping eggs to those who need it.
-
Thanks Derek, Gregg, Mush, Dave, and whoever else I may have missed. I'm starting to confuse myself with all the egg transactions! I know I split about 370ish between Dave, Mush, and Gregg yesterday. Reed, I'll drop 100 your way a little later. I'd love to get to the Coliseum, but it's highly doubtful.
-
^ Thanks, Gregg. What's yours? TPRScott
-
I'll take all the eggs I can get! I've also currently got about 330 to give out.
-
^ Wait, that all really happened? Please tell me this is legit.
-
I've got 270 to unload, so I'll split 'em between KT and ernierocker.

I don't know. I kinda like my cruise ships looking like cruise ships, and my amusement parks looking like amusement parks. The carousel on Allure and Oasis are tastefully done and fit in with the theme. The bumper car idea on Quantum is confined to an interior area. The day the decks become littered with flat rides and crap is the day I lose interest in sailing. Stick to water park ideas.
