It's 2008! Where are you headed this year?
haiderodes replied to OldJJman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SFMM (once already 1/25/08) SFOG (headed there 3/8/08) Disneyland Resort (April) Thats all I have confirmed at the moment. I have a Six Flags pass so I hope to visit some of the parks I haven't been too. On the top of my list are SFOT and SFGAm. -
^Next time you visit a US Disney park, take a look at the sheer amount of "corporate" merchandise they have. Meaning, stuff that is either non-descript to which park it is or has both DLR and WDW logos. They are doing that more and more so they can just order a mass of a particular product versus location specific merchandise. I thought it was wierd how they continued to have signage that said Six Flags California after they aquired Marine World and gave it the "flags treatment". Maybe we'll be getting back a sign that says Magic Mountain over the ticket booths?

^I just don't think there are enough people willing to spend more than a day and a half at the park to warrant a hotel. I think the hotels in the general area suffice. It could hurt both sides really... Say they build a hotel and people are just so tempted to stay there, that could possibly cannibalize the other hotel's occupancies. In retaliation these smaller hotels could make rates so low that people choose to stay off property which would defeat the purpose of the hotel. Just my two cents. The success of other amusement parks with hotels seems to come from the fact that there's more to do than just the park itself. Disney, aside from the parks and waterparks, also has shopping and recreation all over the place in Florida. Hersheypark has the factory and historical aspect of the hotel itself and a famous spa. Cedar Point also has the historical aspect of the hotel being there first along with the beach and marina. There's nothing in the immediate and convenient vicinity of SFMM other than Hurricane Harbor. Castaic Lake is a bit of a drive and there's nothing that special about the shopping in Valencia/Santa Clarita. I just don't think its worth the hassle for the park to get into that. Again, just my opinion.

^ I agree. There is a lot of infrastructure they put up in order to build Superman in the first place. I just don't think the park is at the place where it can do the work it needs to get rid of the ride. Additionally, the ride still has a name for itself. People still talk about it even though its seen better days. Its big and loud, a big attention getter.

What a difference a week makes. Last weekend I was down at the park and the Circus Wheel building hadn't been touched and Freefall was still standing. I figured the latter would be coming down soon as we saw a few people on the highest level of Freefall's tower throughout the day. They make good use of the weekdays! Too bad they didnt have the coupon books ready yet. Hopefully they'll still have some in April or May when I get back down there.

I agree that the park is in need of flats. It helps to balance the park out. They said they want to tap into a wider demographic, I think the flat-ride route might be a quicker easier way. I'm not even saying adding a tremendous amount either...just one or two could help! If they decide to not add any flats, can they at least fix up the ones they have? Grinder Gearworks is looking VERY rough these days. It needs to be cleaned and repainted BAD. When my friend and I were at the park last week we got "stuck" on the ride due to the metal clips on the restraints being so rusted. Left us with metal-smelling hands.

I was at the park on Saturday as well. Got there at 10a and we left about 2p. It was awesome...no lines! In fact we had to wait for more people in order to ride Goliath. They started making announcements around 1p that due to approaching weather the park would close early (6p instead of 8p). As we walked back to the parking lot there were still a few people coming in...I think most were just there to get play passes.

Sonic...haha. All my SoCal friends go crazy for Sonic when they come to Vegas. I hear its a rare commodity down there. People treat it like its White Castle. You can get any flavor slush...yes including Coke! Not like real frozen coke, but pretty close. -
You know I was waiting for them to say something about the camera, but I thought, well in the heat of the moment, maybe things were just so critical that even the military couldn't think of everything. I guess a way around it would be to switch to surveilance cameras or something, but then you'd have the issue of how they get the camera back. As for authenticity and believeability...its still a story about a 6 story tall monster of unknown origin on a rampage through New York City. You can only get to a certain point before you have to throw reality out the window.

For me I thought it was natural for them to keep asking themselves if they should be filming. Especially post 9/11 and with technology being such a driving force today, it would be natural for someone to ask "should i be filming this" or "people are gonna wanna see how it all went down". Better believe anytime anything happens today I am one of the first people to get online and see if someone put a video up. We rely more and more on amateur video vs "the media" for accounts of events.

^ And that's what I'm afraid of. HAHA I'm sure everything will be fine...at least that's what I'm telling myself.

You know Ronald probably went off on his daughter for taking so long on the puzzle after those cameras went off. He hadn't changed THAT much at the end of the race. HAHA

I just got home from seeing it...I enjoyed it immensely! I think it all has to do with how it was shot. Yes it was shaky and some people had to leave the theatre because of it, but it was great. If you havent seen it, just sit further back and you should be fine. They did a great job and building up to seeing the monster. I thought it was cool you never saw it for too long which was one of the fatal flaws of "Signs."...hat movie was great until you saw the damn thing in such a long scene. Ruins the intensity. Cloverfield was intense. People were NOT talking in this movie...everyone was engrossed. Cant wait to see the sequel/prequel/whatever they come up with. I like that they didn't tell us too much about the monster...we just know its there and it doesn't like humans very much. Whenever I see a movie, I try to ignore what others say and just ask myself "Was I entertained?" If the answer is yes, then it was worth my time and money. Can't wait to see what fun stuff is going to be on the DVD.[/img]

That's good to hear!

So this weekend I'm heading to Magic Mountain and of course, as my luck, its forcasted at a 40% chance of rain. I remember reading somehwere on here that a few weeks ago the park didn't even open and the rain hadn't even started falling yet. What are my chances of the park being all "Knott's" and not opening at all? I have been to the park in a pretty good downpour before, but that was a few hours into the day. I don't think I have ever been when its been forcasted for rain all day. I really need to get my play pass processed!

I agree they have been giving away the gate. We were talking about that here at work the other day how it seems like SFMM pays you to go there. The two-for-ones on the coke cans and half price online tickets to the $45 season pass I bought online during the one-day sale. I guess they figure they'll get more people in with lesser prices, but I just think they are undervaluing what they have. Then again they seem to make up for it with the $15 parking and the $39.99 option to upgrade a one day ticket to a season pass once you are in the park. That said, I jumped at the chance to buy that cheap pass not knowing when or how often I would be attending the park especially living 4 hours away. Now that I have it, its going to MAKE me go just to get my money's worth...so I guess they succeeded in that regard. Same thing happened when I visited in 2006...I did the play pass thing for $59.99. I only planned to visit that once, but got the pass and ended up going back another two times. Another thing is the elimination of some full-time roles. Im in the middle of a job search and just my luck I found that SFGAm had a posting in my field (PR/Marketing). Then the day after I send in my resume I see this. GREAT!

Wet N' Wild Orlando
haiderodes replied to ETapley0687's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I always thought the charm of Wet n Wild was that it was more of a water amusement park vs a water theme park. The good old days it was just towers, slides and pools.
