Favorite first drop on a Steel Coaster

X2 in the backseat is pretty intense. I also like the drop coming off the top hat on Xcelerator. -
Rim Runner Leaving Las Vegas
haiderodes replied to HEADCHEEZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree with that as well. I will head to the park tomorrow and see whats up. The most I have ever seen them run on Rim Runner is 3 boats. I do remember back in the day when the front and back rows were open. That is when no one on the boat would stay dry. The only people who seem to get wet is the people who sit on the right side of the boat. I just find it interesting that the boat is sitting in plain site. John That boat has been sitting there for a few weeks. They recently replaced some components on the lift as well, so I don't think the ride is going anywhere so soon. They had 5 boats, but (at least when I worked there) could only operate up to three at any given time. 3 boat operation was stressful enough due to the short distance between the drop and the station. Wait too long to dispatch and SPLASHDOWN in the station. -

The first link mentioned a new ride called the "Insanity Orbit". Could this be similar to our Insanity ride at the Strat? -

This thing seems to move so much faster than I was anticipating! -
^The Sky Tower has pictures of snowfall at Magic Mountain from the 1980's. Its a shot of the park entrance covered in it. I've been under the impression that the main reason the park doesn't "go all out" for the holidays is due to its mostly weekend-only operation this time of year (aside from the couple of weeks surrounding Christmas and New Years). If its only open weekends, it would seem like a lot of work to put up decorations that would just sit there on the days the park was closed.

2009 One Day Six Flags Season Pass Sale
haiderodes replied to CHILLERLC1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So glad I held out! I was hoping they were bringing this back. I am all over it! I really got my money's worth with this year's pass, and I hope to do the same next year as well. -
One interesting thing I noticed last Saturday was that Viper was running 3 trains. The park had the cheerleading thing going on, but even when I was there two weeks prior they were only running two trains (another cheerleading day). It was pretty awesome having no wait at all, although they were stacking every time - sometimes even double stacking. I'm pretty sure its because they were doing this with only 3 ops (I thought they needed an additional load and unload to do this).

The Ghostrider one we got a couple weeks ago was much better than expected. I too have seen ones of other parks where they cut in and out, but this one only cut away during the brake run. The Ghostrider one is fun because you can really see your expression of pain! We had to ride it three times to finally get the video as they were having issues with the cameras.

I'm thinking you avoided going up said hill. Going down it can be "fun" when its raining. On a side note, I was too was at the park on Saturday and I saw you guys. In fact, you guys were at pretty much every ride I was for first part of the day from X all the way back to Batman. Kinda strange coincidence, but hope you all had fun.

Just saw Spring Awakening this past Sunday and it was most amazing!

I'd have to agree that it would be unlikely for an escalator to switch directions while in operation. They just arent that sophisticated. Around here, lots of places reverse escalators all the time. I've even seen it done in person. Granted they always have a security guard or someone on hand to make sure no one is on it. The actual switching is done with the turn of a key. One thing that I DO worry about is an escalator going "flat". That happened at our airport about 7 or 8 years ago. It turned an escalator going up into a huge slide. Lots of people were hurt becuase of it too.

The WDW Disney College Program
haiderodes replied to jackskellington101's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ Actually, Parking is a part of Operations not Transportation. Transportation roles for College Program participants encompasses monorails and watercraft. I'd say go for it as you never know what opportunities might present themselves while you are down there. I started my program in Quick Service Foods in Tomorrowland, but was presented with the opportunity to switch to Operations and work at the TTC in Parking. And the cabs of the trams are air conditioned I wouldnt say role switches are the norm, but they do happen. Plus there are a wealth of seminars, tours, classes etc that you can benefit from, just being on the program. You get out of it, what you put into it. IMO, transportation seems to fit with mechcanical engineering just as much as working in attractions. -

^I think you mean the footprint is similar, not the layout. EDIT: My bad, I thought you wrote layout the first time. -
SFMM TR Friday 10/10/08
haiderodes replied to sfmman2000's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^In all fairness, the combination of operational policy and cooperation of the general public seems have a negative impact on dispatch times for Deja Vu. There's always someone who doesn't place their loose articles in the bin, pulls down the harness before they tell you to, gets lost on the short walk to their seat, etc. That stuff adds time, even with a full crew working their butts off. -
Drop Tower Question
haiderodes replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wonder if the weight limit is more for the sake of the lifting mechanism or the braking? Seeing as how its braked using magnets, a heavier car could take longer to stop causing a problem, but then again all elevators have weight limits.
