  1. They froze seafood. Fish that were already captured and dead, so no big deal there... I'm just confused as to why this was thought to be a good idea even by Japan standards...I mean, if they don't maintain the nice, the skate blades would eventually be cutting open fish guts....
  2. ^And it will only cost taxpayers $1 billion dollars after interest in the bonds is paid off...
  3. ^I'm certainly no expert, but I think the future of the league will be decided between 2019 and 2022 when the current CBA is up and their TV deal is up. Right now it's hot and the owners are probably making money from it being trendy and getting new teams to pay expansion fees, but I think the REAL test will be how big of a TV deal they get and if they can keep wages down.
  4. MLS will be forgotten in 20 years. They are diluting the league by adding so many teams and not doing relegation. There's only so many hipsters in each market who think it's cool going to soccer matches...
  5. ^Construction actually just started last week because they needed FAA approval for the cranes since the site is so close to LAX. The construction prior to that was demolishing the horse racing track and rebuilding the casino. The city/state were ready to offer up $400 million for a new stadium in St. Louis.
  6. Keep the materials. Build new structure using existing stairs/supports they salvage. Re-paint. The end. Keeping the tower is forever going to be a reminder of what happened.
  7. ^Not exactly how it played out. St. Louis tried to give everything they could to keep the Rams, but there was no question they were leaving no matter what St. Louis gave them.
  8. ^IMO, even if they did use all available space, the park would still be a giant clusterf*ck. The park was never built for their current operations with fastpass, people using ECV's, ADA accessibility, etc. The other Magic Kingdoms have the luxury of more space and being designed to more modern standards to begin with---Disneyland is never going to have that without major demolition and re-construction.
  9. I don't even see a point in leaving the tower. It's going to remind people of the incident.
  10. Ditto now exists in the game!
  11. Gotcha. That explains why I've never seen it in use. Seems to be a good size, you'd think they could fix it up relatively cheaply and make use of it for some sort of regular show. Or tear it down and use the space better, especially since there's a ton of space on either side of it too. Almost makes you think they could've kept the leg ride and put YOLOcoaster there and have it wind into the hill and maybe over Superman. Anyways, thanks for the info. Was just kind of curious about it Special events make tons of money. It isn't going anywhere unless a suitable replacement is built. It's a serviceable venue when needed for shows. My personal favorites were the Aquabats in 2009 when SFMM actually did a summer concert series and MxPx as one of the jubilee music acts.
  12. People would go nuts and still gladly buy their $1000 premium pass... Back to the topic of HKDL...glad to see this park growing into its own instead of a distant cousin of Disneyland. I can't wait to get back between all this expansion and being so close to Macau!
  13. They definitely aren't wasting any time...
  14. Disneyland is the most authentic Magic Kingdom park, it would be smart to keep it that way I think. As for other Magic Kingdom parks, get as modern and innovative as they possibly can! I hate that argument. I would be THRILLED if Disneyland re-did the castle and hub to not make a giant clusterf*ck for fireworks and parades.... Disneyland is currently my least favorite park because it's packed way beyond it's designed capacity. Shoehorning in extra attractions doesn't help when the main walkways were never expanded.
  15. You can take AmTrak to Glendale (or a little further to union station if you are into architecture at all---beautiful art deco building) and transfer to the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line up to Santa Clarita. From there I believe there is a bus to SFMM, or it will be a very cheap uber ride.
  16. Honestly, public transportation probably isn't that bad from Santa Barbara to SFMM. Just time consuming to go from Amtrak to Metrolink to bus/uber for last leg to SFMM. I use the Amtrak to Santa Barbara for "daycations" and it's not bad at all. Nice view for some of the ride too!
  17. Agreed. I wouldn't be opposed to it if the ownership groups were paying out of their own pocket, but in both these cases the taxpayers are footing the bill. And if you read the news articles---not even close to good deals.
  18. ^Thankfully USC won, but I can say from experience that it was very loud inside Husky Stadium and likely contributed to the 3 or 4 false starts USC committed.
  19. Jaguar fits in much better IMO. It feels like they put some thought into making it "blend" in better. Silver Bullet feels much more like a "just put it where it fits" coaster. It doesn't bother me, but I know purists are still upset it took away the charm from the lake and arguably the entrance since Giant B&M+Old Western buildings are not exactly complimentary items.
  20. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be funny or not, but this is a perfect reason why we have to do our yearly reminder that IAAPA is a trade show and not really meant for enthusiasts!
  21. So in other words: it's bad. I guess it all depends how well you know the highway system. I've always been able to commute from LA to the IE, OC, and SD with relative ease. There are always alternate routes. The 210, 60, 22, 57, 15, 105, 78, 71 etc have been my go to routes to navigate around So Cal. To each his own I guess. The fact that you have to use alternate routes in the first place implies that traffic must be terrible enough to encourage you to do so. Therefore, the traffic is bad. Nailed it. I have memorized 3 different routes to all the parks from my house in the valley from driving them so many times. I also actually enjoy when the SFMM goes slightly off topic away from the usual rumors, complaints about operations, and questions about the crowds. Keeps the discussion fresh. To get it back on topic (kind of)...I like using the Old Road to get to SFMM.
  22. Generation 2 pokemon now found in the code of the game.
  23. ^Also makes you wonder if this version will be a trailer mounted version.
  24. I wonder if their lease with Santa Clara prevents it?
