Last night Theme Park Review was invited to a media preview for Halloween Horror Nights 23. There was food, fear and lots of me shrieking while we toured the live house of The Walking Dead - No Safe Haven. Once again, Universal has upped the ante on scares, on theming and on the way they present the horror story to guests... We made it onto the marquee! EXCELLENT! They had an awesome exhibit on the "Scent of Fear." It smelled quite scary! Costumes and house designs were presented for all eight of this year's houses, and gave a good idea of the tone for each house. We went back to smell more fear... Like Zeke the Plumber. Robb played Frank n Furter and I was Columbia! Perfect casting! Michael Aiello gave us a passionate preview of this year's lineup of houses and the huge Walking Dead street experience. We even had a chance to meet the entire Halloween Horror Nights creative team behind this year's event! Then I volunteered to have Halloween Horror Nights makeup artist Luandra wound me. And it wouldn't be a media event without themed food! Fans of An American Werewolf in London will recognize several stages of the werewolf transformation throughout the new house. This will totally freak me out when I experience the house! There's lots of head(s) in The Walking Dead - No Safe Haven. Walkers aren't the only thing that scare me... The house featured some great scares in some iconic settings from the show. And there were lots of recently wounded humans that hadn't yet become walkers. I was scarred for life, in more ways than one! Thanks to Universal Orlando for providing us with some high resolution looks at this year's houses... This is found in The Walking Dead - No Safe Haven. Resident Evil: Raccoon City will feature huge set pieces like this one! It will also feature some very "video game-esque" moments that are sure to surprise. Fans of Evil Dead will love the new house, as they experience the story of the film firsthand, in every way! The house is designed to play out EXACTLY like a movie, so expect there to be some neat throwbacks to the film. Back inside An American Werewolf in London, you'll visit John Landis' iconic locations from the film... It took many years to get this house to actually make it off of the page for Halloween Horror Nights, but it looks like the wait will be well worth it! Cabin in the Woods will put guests in the role of new employees of the facility from the film, but you'll start out by visiting that infamous cabin. Tons of spooky detail to take in! Urban Legends: La Llorana is an imported house from Universal Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights, but with a twist. Guests will now enter La Llorana's realm like never before. Havoc 2: Derailed will see the Dogs of War wreaking havoc like never before! Much of the house actually takes place of a full size train, something that Universal Creative has been wanting to do for a very long time! And sure to impress is Afterlife - Death's Vengeance, the year's 3D, blacklit house. It looks like we've got another great year of Halloween Horror Nights on our hands with tons of great IPs and plenty of unique scares to enjoy!

Knowing that you'll be there to take some incredible photos takes the sting out of not being able to go myself. -
Since I wasn't able to make it to the D23 Expo this year, I made a last minute decision to take a short trip to the Disneyland Resort to enjoy some of my favorite things as a close out to my Summer. What ensued was lots of amazing food, some great new pictures on my new camera and a bit of new magic that had been added since my last visit. As the foodie I am, I've been dying to try The Cove Bar at Paradise Pier for years, but never managed to get over there before this trip. With that in mind, it was my first stop when I arrived. These are the awesome Bayside Fish Tacos! But what had really drawn me to this small location was the Lobster Nachos. And they were fantastic! Another great feature of The Cove Bar is the amazing view of Paradise Pier. Can't help but play with my new camera... There's something about Paradise Pier that I've always loved. I'll definitely be coming back here during my next visit! The Cove Bar was updated during the park's overhaul to add some connective theming to the rest of Paradise Pier. We were also blessed with amazing weather during this trip! Our next move was to see the Pixar Play Parade, complete with a new opener themed to Monsters University. There's this guy. And a reworked opening float too! There are these awesome spinning saucers. And FIRE! Airtime! Go with the FLOOOOOOOWWWWWW! Get the point? Still the most evilly awesome parade float around. And it is still very impressive to see these performers do these kind of endless flips on a moving parade float. And it wouldn't be a visit to Paradise Pier without a stop by The Little Mermaid to visit... DAS LIMPET!!! Didn't get around to riding Tower of Terror this time. But I was able to walk right on to the Red Car Trolley for a leisurely ride between the Tower of Terror Stop and Carthay Circle. Love the Storytellers statue. I really do love this quote too. Weird that I made the conscious decision to walk into California Adventure before Disneyland, but that park really has become something incredible in my eyes, and I spent a good deal more time in that park than I ever have. New hotness. Time for favorite parade currently found in the US, Soundsational. Hi Elissa! I've never been overly into parades, but Soundsational and Pixar Play Parade both really entertain me. There are a ton of cool drum elements integrated into the floats, so you know that the drumming isn't just a backtrack in this parade, but actual live performance. Panchito and Jose! Close call with a Tumble Monkey! Goin' down the Bayou... Time a cruise into a small world... In many ways, this version is very different than the one in Florida. It also features small world-esque versions of notable Disney characters. These were all very tastefully included in appropriate locales around the world and they really blend in quite well! You've gazed into the eyes of Mara! It is never not a good time to enjoy a spin on Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin! And a turn from the norm, we opted for Cafe Orleans over the Blue Bayou this time. And I still indulged in all-you-can-drink mint juleps! But one item the Blue Bayou doesn't serve is the Three-Cheese Monte Cristo. And it is DELICIOUS! Fantasmic's dragon is the one part of the show I envy over Florida's version. That's because it is amazing. I do like Steamboat Willie riding out on the Mark Twain though. Fun shot. To quote Fun Spot, "It's HUGE!" FIRE...WORKS!

Give it a few days. I'm sure fate will figure out another way to close down the ride! -
How about this view? Today's photo is compliments of Bill Hargrave, Director of Development, Construction and Tech Services. He's out in the park watching the work being completed on Thunder Run. Looking good! Yes, we are working on more than just THUNDER RUN! I can't begin to guess the number of shingles or amount of timber used to repair buildings or the number of gallons of paint. All I can tell you - everyday we're making progress. Check this out - The Flying Dutchman is getting a new coat of paint. How many remember when and where they first rode this classic ride? http://www.whas11.com/community/Man-finds-class-ring-at-Kentucky-Kingdom-returns-it-to-owner-16-years-later-218726651.html
