Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
Swimace replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Went to the park for opening day, and it seemed pretty busy to me. The wait times were really long due to some pretty bad operations (full queue on Thunderbolt with one train operation, etc). My group opted to get skip the line passes (VIP Day pass was $15 and the VIP night pass was $10) so we got plenty of rides without issue. Hoping to make it back sometime in the fall. Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Swimace replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No... Dick Kinzel would have never allowed KI to outshine CP. Cedar Fair is a company. Matt Ouimet will do whatever is best for his shareholders. If Kings Island has more long-term growth potential than Cedar Point, then that's where the money is going to go. -
Djurs Sommerland Discussion Thread

Wow, that actually looks a lot more thrilling than I expected! Good for them! It sort of reminds me of San Diego's Manta... -
I haven't really been following that closely to this project, but just to be clear: with the way the game is set up, you have to pay more to add more rides to your park? That seems pretty crazy to me. Any idea of what the retail value of the "platinum" version is going to be? Also: the game doesn't include money management? That is a bummer

TPRMemes 4: Theme Park Good Guy Greg!

I can't believe BamaRob's didn't make the final list! His was the best! -
This is great!! I made PBR cupcakes one day and stupid Bryan wouldn't eat them! Maybe I will try making these instead...

^Just started my adult education annex as well... Kind of makes me sad, cause now I will be back in the "waiting for a new update" limbo

So basically it wasn't managed well.

^I went to Cedar Point last year on opening weekend and used the Fast Lane system. For us, it worked flawlessly. However, I have had friends that visited Cedar Point during busier times of the summer and said that it wasn't managed well. Maybe this will help with some of their "problem" attractions. Like I said, for limited capacity rides like Volcano and Firehawk, this will probably help operations. However, for huge capacity rides like Behemoth and Leviathan... I think it's more of a money grab.
-
Wow, this is a pretty low blow. I see the value in up charging Volcano and Firehawk because of their terrible capacity, but other than that it seems like a pretty obvious money grab. It's REALLY expensive for what it is.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Glad to see that Cedar Point is sticking to their "open concrete and little shade" theme to the front of the park... -
Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
Swimace replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Remember, Outlaw Run is topper track, while Texas Giant is IBox track. There are plenty of traditional wooden coasters out there that have put topper track on some of their problem spots, and I don't see anybody trying to claim that they aren't wooden coasters anymore. IMO, Outlaw Run= Wooden Coaster NTAG= Steel Coaster. Really at the end of the day, I don't care what you call it as long as it kicks ass. -
Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
Swimace replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So question about Kennywood: Is it weird to anybody else that only operate on Saturday during their opening weekend? Has anybody gone during opening day before? If so, how were the crowds? Also, doesn't Kennywood have some of ghetto express pass option? I know I have read about it in trip reports, but I can't find any info on Kennywood's website. Does anybody know how it works, how much it costs, how to go about purchasing it, etc? Any help would be appreciated! -
I am curious to see what sort of ride system is going to be used. The Orlando version was just an update of Hannah Barbera/Jimmy Neutron. While Despicable Me looks great in Orlando, the ride system itself is pretty old and busted. I can't imagine that Hollywood is going to choose to build that same ride system from scratch? I wonder if we will see a more advanced simulator in Hollywood since they are pretty much starting from the ground up.

Top Roller Coaster Myths & Rumors!
Swimace replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I took some "non-theme park" people with me to Disney the other day. "Did you know that the government let Disney build a nuclear reactor and that's how Disney powers this whole place" Ugh. -
I have never said that I don't feel some rides are "better" at night, I just don't think any ride I've been on is "significantly" better at night. The Beast. I agree, and would also give a nod to Boulder Dash in that regard. But the thing about the Beast is that I think it is a really fun ride IF I am riding it at night and IF I am in a non-wheel seat. There are simply too many "ifs" in that statement. Overall, I rank a ride like that as pretty crappy.

Thanks Elissa! I think I will grab the wishing well since I still have a bunch of donuts from the "harp" glitch. I just didn't think it would be worth 150 donuts if it was another funzo type thing.
-
Hooray! This makes me happy! Has anybody bought the wishing well? Does the little leprechaun do tasks, or is he more like another funzo/santa's helper?

Just a side-note on this. But Walygator is too cheap to use a midcourse or three trains. Where Raptor's midcourse is, Monster just has straight track with no brakes. It's possible that the Walygator version ranks higher because it potentially runs faster in the second half. I have not been on Monster, so that is just me speculating/guessing.

I think that Shambhala will drop pretty quickly over the years. We've seen this in the poll before with B&M hypers and GCI's. For instance, Diamondback and Prowler ranked really high in their first year, but as more well traveled enthusiasts made their way out to these rides they got hit with a dose of reality. Side note: I am happy Nemesis is still holding so strong. That ride is insane.

I got the "harp" glitch this morning and ended up with 963 Donuts! Looks like i am going shopping for premium items today!
