Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
asimowalk replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's nice. CW had their 30th anniversary last year, so they brought back some nostalgia with old school paint jobs (Vortex trains) to the original TAFT logo on the wooden coasters. And there was Starlight Spectacular that had birthday wishes to the park at the end of the show. I'm excited to see what Kings Island does around the park for their 40th. They've been tweeting a bit about the Racer, so maybe it'll have old paint jobs and logos. -
It's been confirmed on Twitter (is that possible?) that Disneyland and California Adventure are locked down this morning due to a bomb threat. From what I've gathered, an employee found an unattended backpack in a tree so authorities are there to investigate. The gates have been closed and guests are being forced away from them on both sides (there are guests already inside of the park). News stations are just starting to pick up the story on Twitter it seems, can't find anything from a Google search yet. EDIT: Finally a news story: http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-disneyland-suspicious-object,0,3171547.story

Hopi Hari Theme Park 2011 - Brazil
asimowalk replied to Lucas.Almeida's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If she was an average sized 14 year old girl, and if there is a sensor on the restraint, the sensor would probably have a tolerance for a larger body so the restraint could have been up with enough room for her to slip out of it. But I'm not going to speculate further. I just hope they can pinpoint the cause and move forward with it. I would hate to see no cause determined in the end like the Great America incident. -

What was the technical problem with the ride anyway? I always heard about how an unbalanced gondola can mess with the ride, but what did it cause the ride to do? I guess other CF HUSS rides will benefit since they now have an excessive amount of spare parts, namely the seats. -

The stations for the coasters in Medieval Faire have some medieval elements so they're building Leviathan's station to fit in. The hanging lantern light fixtures and wooden structure (or at least the appearance) are some of the nice features to the stations. Leviathan might be the best with a new shingle roof since some of the older coasters (and the park entrance) had their roofs replaced with metal. -

New pictures on Facebook! Full album is here Absolutely loving what they've done with the station. It's going to look great when it's complete. Any info on what the sign may be like? I know Behemoth's signage was explained early in the construction tours. -

Beating the 300' height mark to me has always meant giga coaster. It seems like the best way to market the coaster anyway, what with the bunched up pantyhose over the fact that Behemoth (a hyper coaster) is in the same park. -

So will the Canadian flag pole be put back somewhere in it's original area? Or will it end up flying with the province flags? -

More images on Facebook! Pictures of interest: I am extremely happy with this wooden railing... I'm glad that they're using Dragon Fire's queue stylings here. -

I really hope they never decide to paint these. Anyways, I was very pleased with the Marketplace renovation, so I believe that with just a couple more things, like retheming Drop Tower, Riptide and the On Location stand (to a fruit stand, lol), do a pirate show on Arthur's Baye, even going as far as playing renaissance-type music, Medieval Faire could be a well-themed area. -

Looks like Cedar Fair rolled out a bunch of new websites for the parks, including CW! http://www.canadaswonderland.com PS. lol, Paramount cups. -

I just thought of something, and it involves the long brake run. Cedar Fair's rain policy forces all coasters to go down to one-train operation, but those coasters with mid-course brake runs can still go with two (correct me if I'm wrong). With the brake run the way it is, do you think they would make Leviathan go down to one train? Or would the rain policy (a policy that came out of overreaction) be abolished next season with both Kinzel and Falfas out of the picture? -

If you're talking about the double spine, my thinking is that it works in a way so that the ride can stand with less supports. Just look at how that airtime hill seems to float in mid-air. -

I'm not sure if that can be said since different components have to be positioned in specific places. A trim and a proximity sensor probably won't both be located in the center of the track, for example. In the picture of Fahrenheit above, that most certainly looks like trims could go on the outer two rails and sensors in the middle. This pretty much explains my thoughts: http://www.coastergallery.com/2000/Intimidator305-19.jpg -

I think those are usually to mount proximity sensors. -

I love how they just like bent those trees out of the way for the low hill. -

This lift hill enthusiast is not amused! Oh wait, there's two in the last picture. The progress looks great, looking forward to more. -

One guess would be that if there weren't no trim, the hill would be higher to manage the speed. Knowing B&M, they would stretch it out instead of having a pointier apex, so then it may not meet the footprint limitations. Then there's also the cost of making a bigger hill vs the reduced cost of having parts last longer if they can run it at a slower speed. Does B&M have any existing adjustable magnetic brakes, either on trims or brake runs? -

asimowalk replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm guessing B&M already knows it's going to be going too fast for their comfort at that particular point. We'll have to wait and see if the next trim is mechanical since that would be a more appropriate place to use one. Things could change by the time the ride opens though, issues can be found during testing. It might also be because they didn't want people hearing a mechanical brake catching the train every time the people at the front gate watch the train go over that hill. We all know how unattractive Time Warp sounds. -

I've got a couple of Paramount presents for you! Sorry they look like they were filmed with potatoes, but it's the best I have. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sgjao6IbdtI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb_BRWmlMs4 -

Gah, I just realized that a minute ago and was coming back to change it. Yeah, I don't know what that 57" means either. I guess it's just their suggestion, though HUSS actually gives a range, I'm surprised they wouldn't too. -

It is taller than both the Mondial (115') and HUSS (138') versions, and I think the thin design of it makes it look even taller. Speaking of the restraints, Zamperla lists the minimum passenger height as 57" which is pretty tall when you compare 52" for both HUSS and Mondial. Should be lots of fun! -
