  1. I always considered the price tag they give in these press releases to be of just the ride itself. I'm sure someone working in the industry could give some insight into that. But the 24 million sounds justified for just the coaster, IMO. It's a long custom coaster that's sporting possibly three new trains.
  2. I noticed that too, the break run looked super long. I was just about to edit that [again] because I watched the POV videos and it looks like the simulation is just running one train so the second bit of my post is void. But yeah... Fairly long brake run on a lengthy ride, I'd actually be surprised if they didn't run three trains.
  3. The brake run looks long enough to handle three trains, though one of the renderings shows a train at the top of the lift, presumably one in the station, but no train on the brake run. Hmm...
  4. Were they still loading trains while they're moving in the station? Do the restraint lights/verification still work then?
  5. ^ It started in 2011 for their 30th season where they installed projectors for the mountain animations. This season they added new fountains and all of those spotlights.
  6. Someone already posted the entire new Starlight Spectacular show on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxfpFY5Tbsw I said this in 2011... Check out the 7 minute mark of the video.
  7. I had my second trip to the park today. It was pretty quiet in the queues. Ride attendants were great, hats off to Leviathan and Windseeker especially. With such a quiet day in the park, there's not much else to comment on other than things that changed since my last visit in May. Those notes are with the pictures. Also, my trip video is up if you want to see it: The floral flag is back. The black jets we saw earlier got metal caps with a hole in the center, which makes a lot more sense now. Also, the new white pipes that lead from the bridge to the jets are now black to blend in with pool floor. Sledge Hammer was closed. There were guys working on it in the morning but it was abandoned by noon. Silver Streak looks very clean with the new support color, though I kind of prefer the black supports. When I visited early May, it was just the top of the lift hill that had any new paint on the rails. Now the entire circuit has been painted. It doesn't look finished though.
  8. So I was at the park yesterday for my only visit for 2012. Based on my experience yesterday, I would say I prefer Leviathan over Behemoth. I was surprised to see such long lines all around the park, seeing as this time last year, I was able to hop between rides with almost no lines. Glad to see the park is doing well though. Here's a compilation of the best Leviathan videos I got. Let me tell you, filming the bottom of the first drop was insane (those clips are around 3:15). EDIT: Just finished up a general park video:
  9. The Windseeker media wagon is getting out of control. Not only did this highlighted incident not happen, they got both the park and the ride's name wrong.
  10. Yes, those are the flags of the provinces in Canada. I think the exclusion of USA in the park comes from the original design of the park. They went with more exotic countries for the international themed areas, but still put an emphasis of being a Canadian attraction. I guess the red, white, and blue never made it past any drawing board.
  11. Season pass benefits are here: http://www.canadaswonderland.com/season-passes/season-pass-benefits Early ride times are here. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like your visit will have an ERT session as they finish on the 31st for the year.: http://www.canadaswonderland.com/season-passes/season-pass-early-ride-times I'm not aware of any bring-a-friend deals this weekend and I wouldn't count on it. The last one was the weekend of August 11-12. "Discounted" Tickets are here. These tickets are cheaper compared to what you would pay at the gate.: http://www.canadaswonderland.com/tickets/ One more thing worth mentioning, there are fireworks on Sunday for labour day which may bring in the crowds... (Fast Lane?)
  12. I'm scanning some of the old stuff I have here and found a 2004 Cedar Point Getaway Guide in the mix. I thought I'd share some of the relevant pages (relevant meaning it's not just a page of accommodation prices):
  13. Here's the scanned versions of the pictures I posted yesterday. My scanner wasn't big enough so I had to scan in several pieces and they didn't line up that well...
  14. Since we're sharing old maps and stuff... Sometimes I'm glad I was an annoying kid. I ordered brochures in 2003 from all of the Paramount Parks (and, interestingly enough, Cedar Point). Here's what I got from PGA: PKI and PKD had the largest packages because they also included accommodations, though PKI's slightly larger as the map I got was a larger brochure like you'd find at a rest stop.
  15. She talked about the food truck. That's when my feed cut off. It looks like a fantastic addition to the park. I know there are people complaining that it doesn't seem to pack the same punch as other coasters give at CP, but it adds to the variety of their collection. I see that as a good thing. I don't really like the way they edited that video. It's chopped up really oddly, leaving the keyholes at the end of the video... after a reverse POV which sparks all of these "the ride goes backwards?!" comments from the GP.
  16. Cedar Point actually has a clause that no parks within 200 miles of it can build anything like they have or something to that extent. The park management told us that when TPR was at Canada's Wonderland. Even if they both under the same parent company? There was the story about how CW couldn't get a B&M invert because of CP, but CW was a Paramount Park back then. Based off of pattern between KI and CW in recent years, I wouldn't be surprised if KI got a B&M hyper. But as I said a few pages back, I would expect the SOB area to become a new midway with more than just one coaster replacing it.
  17. I'm a little skeptical that that is the final look of the entrance and keyholes... It has a very sleek modern feel, but still a bit bland. The coaster looks great! Comparing it to Wicked Twister, it looks like it's around 200 feet (if WT is 215ft). The memo that was leaked said 170. I'm looking forward to the full stat sheet. PS. Anyone see the irony with the teasers that say "We can't keep it locked away much longer"?
  18. The fruit is called rambutan, I'm guessing in the same family as lychee. And I'm going to guess your breakfast was either duck or pork? Even if it's not, that still looks better than any breakfast I've had in recent memory.
  19. That picture looking through the barrel roll is absolutely gorgeous!
  20. Sorry for bringing back the name thing but... maybe the "Stratosoar" trademark will finally be used? I mean, it would fit well if this coaster does end up being the tallest wing rider.
  21. Zoom Zone at CW was added to the kids area in 2001 with three rides: two flats (Blast Off and Jumpin Jet) and Silver Streak (Vekoma family suspended coaster). It merged with Kidsville sometime after Cedar Fair took over. Maybe KD will introduce a similar area, but on a grander scale. But... I would think they would add something else to the teaser that would hint at a kids area expansion if this is the case. As much as I doubt it, maybe they'll add yet another launch coaster and they market how many they have. Or a space themed attraction like Dinosaurs Alive.
  22. Pretty sure I've said this numerous times already, and even though I won't be going down to this park anytime soon, I'm really excited for CGA. I think it will bring a new life into the park. From what I've seen online, the park areas look great already, but I wouldn't be surprised if they spent a lot more on maintenance and bring in new shows for 2013. It's time for this park to finally fit in with its former Paramount sisters. I'm expecting a Windseeker sometime soon.
  23. With Behemoth at CW, it seemed as if they deliberately wanted the full lift complete by the end of the season prior to its debut season. Nothing promotes season pass sales for the following season more than seeing construction well underway for something you have to come back for, and with the history of CGA, this must be a relief to much of the GP. It's really refreshing to see something new go up. I'm really looking forward to seeing what that record is though!
  24. I haven't looked at a satalite image of SoB in a while. I didn't realize it sat on that much space with cleared land beside it. I don't see KI replacing SoB with just one large coaster. I think they will opt for a completely new area or a major expansion of Action Zone. It'll increase the capacity of the park itself and total ridership if they can add several mid-sized attractions there. That's how they seem to be developing the parks these days (installing rides with excellent capacity).
  25. I don't know, sequels usually suck. Son of Beast didn't exactly break the stereotype. Yeah, after thinking about it for a bit, I realize that's probably not the best idea. Being in Action Zone, the most I expect is something terribly generic.
