  1. ^ Agreed Gregg "Converted Coca-Cola Boy" C.
  2. Well it's finally out there, it's been known for awhile that the next expansion would be called Wild! and plenty of people guessed it would be based around Zoo/Safari type items. Worthplaying and 3D Gamers have both got a little blurb as well as the first 4 shots. I must admit I'm pretty excited about this expansion, from the screenshots you can see quite a few new bits and pieces, from the new coaster type that merges tracks (is this based on a real/prototype coaster? see attached image) to a giant wheel and plane flatride. All the animals look fairly good too. What do people think ? I am quite excited about being able to mix animals with my parks.
  3. I know the ending is the same, that's not what I was getting at In the book and from memory in the original movie, it wasn't such a rush through to the end. In the remake it was sort of action action action then bam their all dead, roll credits. It just seemed sudden with the film pacing. Because of that maybe a bit of artistic licence would have helped. Maybe seeing glimpses of the martians falling ill due to the common cold. But yes the tripods were very welcome.
  4. I thought it was pretty good but I didn't enjoy it as much as the original. It just seemed to lose momentum and the ending just kind of appeared with no real hint throughout of what was happening. I thought Tom Cruise was actually pretty good though.
  5. So far the park is looking pretty neat. I love the coaster that arches over the Park Entrance. The racing coasters are really cool too, as for names, how about Hope (White) and Despair (Black).... not sure about theming !!
  6. Yeah, isn't this thread meant to be about Blackpool Pleasure Beach in RCT3? I love BPB!
  7. Stitch, to be honest you are the one making this a "vendetta" (which to even use such a term on a forum is pathetic, especially as that term begs the question, what exactly am I trying to get revenge for ?). Your statement is false and was not relevant to this thread which has ultimately pushed this thread WAY OFF TOPIC. Yes there are lag problems with RCT3 and it can create problems for viewing parks, but you can STILL VIEW them, and to be honest as long as the park is closed it's not so much a problem. It's generally the amount of peeps that create the lag. (along with people using horrendous amounts of scenery in small spaces) Either that or peoples systems just aren't good enough to play the park, in which case it's not the park creators problem. Besides which usually in park threads the creator illustrates his thread so those that wouldn't be able to can still enjoy his/her creation. In RCT2 you can make parks as large as you like with no slowdown because it's a 2D game and most peoples machine specs are WAY above what it needs, to be fair if you gave a full park in RCT2 to someone who could only just run RCT2 you would encounter exactly the same problem as what people are experiencing in RCT3. You wouldn't be having this same argument if someone in NoLimits filled a design with so much Custom 3DS Scenery that it slowed to a crawl on most peoples machines. I haven't got a problem with your views as everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when you don't quantify it or make a completely false statement, sure I'll talk about it. If you wish to comment on this further please PM me as this thread has degenerated enough!
  8. Your park is looking really cool. I havent played RCT2 for a while and I really miss some of the cool theming that they decided to leave out for RCT3.
  9. Vendetta? Do you mean me? If thats what you think then it's you with the problem! LOL It's not my fault that people's computers are not good enough to display my fantastic parks built in RCT3. That doesnt make it a crap game. It's not the game's fault. It's not nice to be accused of holding a vendetta, cos I really don't. It seems some people on these boards can't discuss something without getting heated. Words like "vendetta" are not nice :crying: Joanne "Jeez I wish everyone would chill out" Allison
  10. It's a shame the lag is so bad for you phazan. BTW, your RCT2 park is looking good. Glad you like them both coasterdude5, I do think RCT2 improved on RCT1 but it wasn't the big leap that everyone was hoping for, I can remember how disappointed people were at the time. But yeah it did add a LOT of new stuff. I just think that it felt more like an expansion rather than a new game. It doesn't stop the game being ace though. By the way, nothing you said could be taken as a flame at all, just a difference of opinion. I'm not some deity that's always right I love hearing what other people think.
  11. ^^ My bad ... I thought he had said he had only done the "D's" Gregg "That's what "I" get for not reading the entire first post" C.
  12. ^ Helps if you read the entire first post ...
  13. Love the Big Brother. Your talking about Ivette I think. She has an Elissa'esque style I guess. So far this year it's interesting, but these shows never get good until more people start getting voted off and the real scheming starts.
  14. No problems here, I'm using Firefox. I haven't seen the vaguest hint of anything odd going on.
  15. Hehe, yeah it took awhile, I didn't realise how long it was til I finished.... Yeah I forgot about scenery, that's one place where RCT2 definitely has the edge... I really miss the Arctic and Egyptian themes. I do really like the Atlantis theming in Soaked! though. I definitely agree on the designing being easier in 3D but I agree RCT2 is definitely still a great game. I still enjoy having a little potter now and then. I do prefer RCT3 now though.
  16. My, what a long post! That must have taken you all day! Well, erm, I really love RCT2 & 3. Most of the time just lately, I'm playing RCT3 mainly because Soaked! is still new and I'm still figuring out what you can and can't do with it. I really miss the scenery out of RCT2 though, especially the Arctic, European and Egyptian theming, which was really cool. I'm hoping that the Wild! expansion will include some similar theming, or better! Apart from the scenery, I do think that RCT3 is a better game. I love how you can actually ride the coaster that you've just spent hours building. And it is easier to design coasters now that you have a fully 3D camera. Even though I do think RCT3 is better than 2, RCT2 is still a fantastic game and eventually I will get around to playing it again
  17. Seeing as in the short time I've been here I seem to already be branded a staunch RCT3 defender. I thought I'd let people know what I really think of RCT3 and get people's views/feedback. For ease of explanation I'll sometimes compare to equivalent features/problems in RCT2. RCT3 Pros and Cons First things first, I like RCT3, I know that's hard to believe but bear with me. RCT3 has most of the features of RCT2 and some that aren't in 2 at all. Full 3D One of the benefits RCT3 brings is the fact that now it's in full 3D it makes aligning and building coasters much easier. The isometric views in RCT2 could sometimes get a little cluttered and confusing when trying to line up a turn to join somewhere, RCT3 helps with the problem of lining up for the end by having an Autocomplete function for tracked rides (which can sometimes make a right mess of it, but it usually makes it easier for you to edit it if you get totally lost). Ride Coasters The ability to ride your coasters adds that much needed visual excitement factor to coaster building, seeing tracks you've built in RCT2 come alive in 3D is really neat. (No Limits lets you do this for RCT1 rides, does it for RCT2 ?) Peep AI The peep AI has been improved (although it's still a bit dopey on occasion) with peeps able to walk around in groups as well as individuals, the peeps no longer do the walk in a line and visit every stall/ride on the path thing and don't get stuck finding their way out anymore like they do on RCT2. The group AI is something you either love or hate though. Being able to see the peeps expressions brings a lot of feeling, seeing peeps with hands in the air screaming on coasters, or showing they aren't enjoying the ride really helps you improve your coasters. Soaked! Additions With Soaked! we gained the ability at long last to use tunnels the same as we could in RCT2 (this should have been in from the start) as well as more theming options and the whole waterpark angle (which is REALLY good but could be fleshed out a bit more). Evil Lag Now RCT3 has it's faults, the most obvious one being that it's a resource hog, even with a beast of a PC the game can lag horribly if you have a big park with lots of guests (1500+). Soaked! improved this drastically and it'd be great if this improved again with the next expansion (Wild! is the guess at the moment) which is due in November. Evil Faults Other faults include, some ride pieces not working correctly (notably the flume/track end to lift hill piece on some water rides and something has changed on the ghost train lift hill), some of the scenery pieces not linking correctly and the new soaked scenery not being sorted into the new categories (they are currently dumped in with the Generic items). There are plenty of other niggles with RCT3 and lots of cool extras too like the ability to adjust menus on stalls etc, but on the other hand you can no longer colour sale items like umbrellas, so they gave with one hand and took with the other . Cool Soaked Stuff! Soaked! also improved the campaign mode by provided cool mini-objectives during scenarios. You might be asked to add 3 themed rides in a year or to sell 1000 inflatables. These things give you mid-term goals as well as your over-archinng main goal which helps the game flow. CHRIS SAWYER WAS INVOLVED IN RCT3 One common mistake that people constantly pick up on is they seem to think Chris Sawyer wasn't involved in RCT3 at all, this couldn't be further from the truth, Chris Sawyer was Executive Producer on both RCT3 and Soaked! which is equal billing with David Braben at Frontier. Frontier has always been involved in the RCT franchise since RCT2 as they made both the Wacky Worlds and Time Twister expansions for RCT2 as well as RCT for XBOX. That ultimately is how they ended up doing RCT3! RCT2 Pros and Cons RCT2 is a great game and I still love it dearly, here are my pro's and cons to RCT2 done in the same way as I did RCT3 above. Some of the advantages RCT2 offers are down to it being a 2D game. Because of this, the system requirements are a LOT lower than RCT3. Speed and Stuff This allows for huge parks with little to no impact on speed. The downside to that though is that there is little variety in the peeps and sometimes things can look a little bland, especially the terrain. On the plus side the coasters look fantastic thanks to being pre-rendered images. Peep AI The peep AI in RCT2 is laughably bad sometimes, but for the time it worked and was functional although the path-finding routines are bad. They also had the habit of walking along a path buying or using everything in sight. (In RCT3 I've noticed that the peeps will sometimes return to stalls where they've already bought stuff and complain they already have it, so there is room for improvement still but it is still much better) Average Sequel The one thing people forget about RCT2 is that it really wasn't much of a sequel, it did very little that RCT1 didn't already do. It added Themed Toilets and ATM's as well as the Six Flags rides and some other bits and bobs, but really it could have been an expansion. People were VERY disappointed with RCT2 when it came out. The graphics hadn't improved, the scenarios were just more of the same, no really new objectives etc. Mini-Rant and Pose the Question ! At least that's one complaint you can't throw at RCT3, it really was a true sequel even if some elements hadn't been properly thought out or executed properly. Frontier have had pretty good community contact from launch and responded well to problems in RCT3 and fixed a lot of peoples grievances in the two patches that followed. Because of that feedback they used an Open Beta program for Soaked! and implemented a lot of the suggestions they were given by the community and Soaked! feels a better product because of it. Of course you are free to hate RCT3, you are free to hate Soaked!, I just find it immensely annoying when people attack RCT3 for no reason, or without justification. If you don't like it, don't play it or waste time commenting about it when it's not justified, just stick to RCT2. It's like saying Apples are crap, Oranges are better. WHY are oranges better ? that's a far more constructive post and encourages debate/discussion. A statement on it's own is FAR more likely to get a flame in response. Phew.... sorry for the long post.... Anyway, those are my pros and cons for RCT2/3... What elements of RCT3 / Soaked! don't you like and why? Are there any features you'd have preferred to be left as they were pre-RCT3 ?
  18. I never said you weren't entitled to your opinion, everyone is entitled to one. I don't see where there is any "angst" towards your comment ? angst is a feeling of anxiety or apprehension, I'm not anxious or apprehensive about your comments. Your original quote insinuates that you CAN'T make massive parks in RCT3, which is false. you can, quite ably. Your inability to is your own shortcoming, not the games. Especially if as you say "My computer runs Rct3 fine and with some power to spare". Your opinion to not like the game is your own and ultimately why you don't like it is your own business. But to rubbish something or make a laughable comment without SOME backup is very childish. RCT3 has it's faults, the amount of lag even on a high-end machine when you have upwards of 1500 peeps can spoil the game, some of the track pieces (notably the track end to lift hill piece) are broken, the new scenery in soaked isn't sorted properly as well as others I'm sure. I'll be the first to criticise RCT3 for it's FAULTS but even with those it is still a fine game. If you don't enjoy it then that's fine, but to criticise something without justification or even flat out lies is silly. I've never once attacked you for having an opinion, you are justified to have one, everyone is but I'll defend RCT3 against ridiculous comments til the cows come home. Edit: P.S. I'm presuming you've upgraded your PC since this post at the end of April ?
  19. LOL! Chill out! I didn't understand your comment about not being able to make big parks in RCT3. And you are entitled to your opinion, no-one said you aren't. Just because I don't agree with it doesn't make it wrong, but I didn't think your comment was valid about only being able to make big parks in RCT2. Thats all!
  20. I think something else may be at issue here, NvCpl.dll is the NVIDIA Display Properties Extension. Which suggests either you have driver issues or you don't have enough RAM/Virtual Memory. Try installing the latest NVIDIA Drivers (which at the time of post are 77.72), as for RAM and VM Windows should do a reasonable job of expanding VM as needed. How much RAM and free Disk Space (on C:) do you have ? I had no issues at all with loading BPB (except the HUGE loading time, mostly due to my lack of RAM I imagine) and I've not exactly got a great machine. (Athlon XP1700+, GF4Ti4400, 512Mb PC2700) You can make massive parks that everyone can see with RCT3, just because either A) you don't like RCT3 or B) you can't run RCT3 decently, doesn't mean it's not good. RCT2 is a great game, but so is RCT3/Soaked! RCT2 is showing it's age now, it came out in Oct 2002 and yes it's still a great game but it is starting to feel a bit clunky, but if you enjoy playing it still then all power to you but that doesn't mean that everyone has to prefer RCT2 to RCT3 or vice versa. On these boards I've noticed it seems COOL to slag off RCT3/Soaked! for no obvious reason. Sure it needs a better PC than RCT2 but what game doesn't, if your machine can only just run RCT2 (which I find doubtful in this day and age as it only needs a P2 300, an 8Mb video card and 64Mb RAM) then you are likely going to have major issues running ANY game from the last few years. You could JUST get NoLimits to run with an RCT2 spec. machine (with a 3D card). Sure, RCT3 as it was at launch was pretty bad and was frustrating, but with both patches and now with Soaked! it's like a totally different game, it's much closer to the game it SHOULD have been at launch! This anti-RCT3 stance is really frustrating, especially because they are BOTH good games. I still love playing RCT2, I still love playing RCT3/Soaked!, heck I love 'playing' NoLimits! Some people seem to find it really hard to like more than one game on this forum, and that's sad and I truly hope that those people are not that blinkered.
  21. I stick with RCT3, where i can make parks that everyone can see, AND they look cool. How "decent" is your computer, Angry? Mine is crap and mine runs it just fine
  22. Im using Mozilla Firefox and there is nothing wrong! I can't see any ads!
  23. That's great!!! I always thought today would be a good day to go and actually ride some rides since all the geeks had better things to do. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
