NASA Social Trip Report - April 2016
Gutterflower replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Love these pics and video. Thanks so much for sharing. I've always been enthralled by the space program and have been pretty unlucky with my launches. I've been in Florida for 3 launches which was mostly by accident but we made the effort to be in the area on Launch day/night when we found out they were on when we were visiting Disney. all 3 ended up being delayed beyond the boundaries of the trips there so still haven't seen one. One day I've recently applied for a couple of jobs at the European Space Agency to do with managing and interpreting geospacial data that comes back from their survey probes but the jobs are unbelievably over subscribed as you may expect. I've missed out and am waiting to hear about the other. I am not expecting to get anything but if you don't apply then you certainly won't. Shoot for the moon so to speak I agree with the Atlantis exhibit as well. Its worth the admission alone. I also really enjoyed the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston. They occasionally do tours of the pool astronauts use to train for missions and they have replica parts of the ISS under water which is fascinating. Anyone managed to see the other orbiters? or visited the other centers? such as Goddard Space Flight Center and the Jet Propulsion Lab. i Know they have visitors centers and would love to hear from people who've been. -
Ocean Park Vietnam

Yup both of them https://rcdb.com/14184.htm One is a little shorter than the other but neither are huge. -
Ocean Park Vietnam
Gutterflower replied to Texasbest2015's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Look who's back In addition the site of the Sun Wheel on the other side of the bay (where that crazy cable car goes) is adding twin Alpine Coasters as well -
I thought originally you were probably spot on there but looking closer the track at the top section where I'd assume any station structure would be is inverted not on its side which would be needed for this. the large black support at the back here seems to suggest the track with flip over to inverted at the top of that drop anyway.

Did a bit of digging and found this article from a while back translated from German Source Is this project back on track? this could be the location for that Takabisha clone track (If it is that) -
Fun With Statistics 2016
Gutterflower replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Good spot. This is exactly why i run these through forum posts before writing big articles. Somewhere in by spreadsheet things seem to have shifted slightly in that table so I've re-done it with the correct numbers I've also redone the operating coasters per company graph which i somehow missed Vekoma off of. I also added a ton of other smaller companies i missed off to bulk it up a bit. -
Fun With Statistics 2016

Hi all. Thanks for the comments above. I am really sorry it's taken this long to do part 2. I am at that part of my life that friends weddings are taking over everything and I've just not had the time i planned for this orginally. It may take me longer than planned but i promise I'll get these out over time. Last time i mentioned I would look at coaster statistics. The most obvious one here is how many coaster are built per year. This graph shows a clear upward trend over the last 10 years. But it is worth noting that this is based off of RCDB data and our tracking of Chinese coasters has got much better over the last 10 years thanks to people like Darren Mullins, Gavin Jones, Lisa Scheinin, Myself and many others. So details further back are less reliable. Again i also have to say 2016 data is incomplete. Both of these points need to be noted for this graph. The number of new coasters in the USA and China There are really strong trends here. And I dont think the increase in knowledge can account for all of it. China is having a coaster boom and the USA is having a bit of a dip. Again the 2016 data is incomplete hence the massive dive in 2016. Lets have a look at individual coasters built in China from 4 major companies. THis graph shows B&M, Mack, Intamin and MVR/Gravity Group and their sales in China per year. theres no clear trend for anyone except the Gravity Group/Martin & Vleminckx which lead us on to this..... We are all well aware that China is leading he way with wooden coasters recently so I decided to see if its affected the number of wooden coasters built overall. This graph suggests not. 2000 is a clear anomaly here with 17 new wooden coasters built. With 2005 the low point with only 1 built. Since then the graph has fluctuated up and down but shows no huge gains. However it is interesting to take some of the biggest western manufactures in China and see how much of their output is in the Chinese market There is no strong correlation here for most companies but The Gravity Group and Martin & Vleminckx have a really high output in China with a strong showing since 2008. Arguably most of the best traditional wooden coasters in the last few years are in China (Excluding RMC here) and China has three traditional inverting woodies too. Another interesting graph is the number of coasters currently operating from each major company. There is a lot of interesting stuff here. Vekoma dominate but Zamperla and Golden Horse bring up a good second and third. Wiegand come in fouth and their recent inclusion on the RCDB is telling. I know that a good chunk of Wiegands rides are not on the DB and i wouldn't be surprised to see them top soon. What i find interesting is that Mack and B&M are pretty much level right now and Intamin are only just ahead. You have to wonder how many projects at Intamin B&M worked on. Some of the Chinese companies have less than i thought and with Hebei Zhongye perhaps the worst of the 4 major Chinese companies having more than the two Beijing companies. Doppelmayr are doing poorly though That's it for now. And I'm sorry for the shortness of this episode. But Ep 3 shouldn't be too long -
Hi all It has been 3 years since I've done this but I do always enjoy what weird and wonderful results it throws up. I am a geophysicist by trade so the combination of maths and roller coasters has a certain charm for me at the same time this is all for fun and the numbers should be taken with a pinch of salt. I shall explain why as we progress but in essence as we go back in time the numbers are harder to verify and there is always going to be a little room for error with all the facts and figures found on the Internet. All numbers used here unless stated otherwise are taken from the excellent RCDB and all errors and mistakes are my own. I apologise for the way this first post is Bar Chart heavy. Things will improve in later posts. First up lets start simply. The graph below shows the number of operating coasters per continent right now. Asia clearly dominates the numbers but i found it surprising Europe beats North America. Antarctica obviously has 0 Australia needs to work on its coaster count but i found the lack of coasters in South America surprising. Next up we have All Time coasters per continent. So this is all coasters that have ever existed on a continent according to the RCDB. Interestingly USA jumps massively here. As shown by the next graph the USA has a whole load of coasters we know existed but no longer exist. Strangely Australia's numbers increase significantly. The next graph shows all coasters that no longer exist on each continent. There is a certain obvious error here. We obviously don't know stuff from Asia beyond a certain point. As we go further back the data becomes less reliable. This is something we will look at later on. The RCDB is getting more accurate as we go along but when you look further back things become less certain. North America and Australia are the only two continents that have more coasters now closed than coasters currently operating. A classic graph from these articles is the number of coasters per country. When i first started these the USA dominated the graphs but over time China started to take the lead. These days China dominates. China and the USA still completely dominate the graph though with Japan, Germany and the UK filling up the top 5. However I've learnt that this graph shows very little in real life. We all know china is the most populous place on the planet. So how many coasters are there per person really? China does poorly here. But there are some countries that do really well. Denmark, UAE and Sweden are the top hitters but the UK, Netherlands and Belgium do well. India the second most populous country in the world does badly here. but china finishes above Russia. There is another check we can do. Number of coasters per square km. The Netherlands and Belgium have a strong showing here. Over taking Denmark, Sweden and the UK. If you want to live near a coaster the Netherlands is the place to be. Australia is perhaps not. Another way to look at this is parks. How many parks are there on each continent? Once again Asia dominates the field but Europe comes in second. We can break this down further. How many parks are there per country? we have already seen coasters per Country above. China dominates again with the USA in second. Japan, Germany and the UK take up the top 5 once again. But how do these 2 stats combine. How many coasters does each countries parks have on average? Again Denmark leads the field with a massive 3.8 coasters per park. The USA has a strong showing here but the UAE does really badly with less that 1 coaster per park. This is because there are a number of parks in the UAE that are still operating but have closed all their coasters. This is just part one of this thread. Next time I plan to focus on the coasters and companies themselves.

Vietnam's Increasing Coaster Count
Gutterflower replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just come across another ride going up in Vietnam. Looks to be a Wiegand Alpine Coaster which is part of the site with the Sun Wheel and that ridiculous cable car that crosses Ha Long Bay to the Ocean Park site -
There's been topics on the 2 new parks which got all the rides from Hard Rock/Freestyle Music Park before but it seems other parks have started to react to the competition. Instead of several separate news topics it seemed easier to make one whole one for all the little bits of news even though i've sort of included the new additions to those 2 parks here. Vinpearl Land in Nha Trang was for a long time the most popular park in Vietnam and has for years only had this L&T Systems beast. This went completely under the radar but I found out today they've just opened this Vekoma mine train with some pretty solid themeing. More news arrived today as Asia Park in Da Nang (the park which got most of the HRP coasters) has announced the addition of a new Vekoma suspended coaster. Speculation on local forums seems to suggest it will be an SLC although I've seen an article which says SFC. time will tell. The main section of the park opened last year so this will be part of Phase 2 and a decent addition either way. Ocean Park in Ha Long Bay (where Led Zeppelin ended up) has added two new Vekoma's an SFC and a Roller Skater for the parks opening next year. This ones a little older but it took a while for images to come out, Vinpearl opened a new park on Phú Quốc island last year. They built a Vekoma junior boomerang and a roller skater. Perhaps most interestingly is a news release recently for somewhere called Bạc Liêu The press release makes it sound pretty big. But who the hell makes coasters in Canada. All in all no ground breaking additions yet. but they are building a nice collection of rides. Considering just a couple of years ago two of the biggest rides in the country were an L&T Systems compact coaster and a knock off loop screw. they are doing pretty well.

New theme park for Turkey, Ankapark.
Gutterflower replied to _koppen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh it could be even richer. How about a Chinese knock of Volare? This lovely piece of nightmare fuel has been sat at the BSA test site in Beijing for almost a year. perhaps the best place for it. -
New Wanda Parks in China.
Gutterflower replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Found a lovely aerial of that side of the park showing off the invert so it looks less like an invertigo Full Size That ski slope is freaking huge. Dwarfs what is a decent sized invert. -
New theme park for Turkey, Ankapark.
Gutterflower replied to _koppen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This has been mentioned in the Holiday World thread but i'm now pretty certain that the Intamin hyper splash at Ankapark is Giraffica/Pilgrims Plunge from Holiday World My reasoning being the track used on the drop is unique as it allows water to run down it. Divertical, Hydro Racer and Typhoon all have just plain coaster track. Also look closely at the drop on the Ankapark ride and you can see some unpainted grey sections near the bottom. I'm not 100% certain because there is no official confirmation but the evidence at least leans that way -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Gutterflower replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That is Divertical in Italy. It has a complete coaster circuit, and its lift hill is over 60 feet taller than Pilgrims Plunge was. It opened in 2012. Edit, unless for some reason, they painted another one of these intamin water coasters identical colors to Divertical. The picture above is at Ankapark in Turkey. certainly not Divertical although easy mistake to make as they are the same colour. Weirdly there are now 3 of them the same colours. This is Hydro Racer at Wanda Xishuangbanna in China which has the same colour scheme again. I'm pretty certain the Ankapark ride at the top is the old Giraffica, Pilgrims Plunge from Holiday World. My reasoning being the track used on the drop is unique as it allows water to run down it. Divertical, Hydro Racer and Typhoon all have just plain coaster track. Also look closely at the drop on the Ankapark ride and you can see some unpainted grey sections near the bottom. -

There are 2 track colours there. The lighter track matches up with the concept art for Pegasus the Firechaser Express style ride for Parc Asterix. The darker one... who knows. -
New Wanda Parks in China.
Gutterflower replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Some more photos of the Wanda Harbin coasters. Perhaps the best two Chinese built coasters so far? Both the inverted coaster and the mine train have custom layouts and track designs. Source (membership needed) -
Hotgo Park in Fushun China
Gutterflower replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No sign of the B&M hyper yet but strangely it appears they have built a Boomerang coaster sticking out the side of a building. Still working on confirming exactly which make of Boomerang it is but the ride itself appears to be at the soon to open Spa and Sports world rather than either of the Theme Parks. -
I'm afraid I don't know much about the local train system or any trains to the park. P&B mine train is a Preston & Barbieri mine train. Seen here Source The B&M Wing Coaster has been built since November last year. Source These pictures from June 3rd 2016 make it look like work is slow Source That article also says the park will open Spring 2017. We know there will be a B&M hyper coaster but we don't know the layout or design. There has been no news or pictures recently I'm afraid. The best places to keep up to date in my opinion is VHCoasters (I would say that though as i run it) But any major info that i post there I post on these forums and will be posted here anyway. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67889&p=1648123 The official site can be found here http://www.hotgopark.com/hotgopark/park/view/5 although there is very little information at this time.

Hi, Welcome to the forum. The new park at Hot Go is called Hot Go Dreamworld and is the second Hot Go park. It's all pretty quiet right now and I've been unable to find anything about construction for months. We know they have finished construction of the B&M wing coaster and the P&B mine train but I've not seen anything on the B&M hyper yet. I don't know when the park is due to open but judging by the last pictures seen it probably wont be before the end of this year. I'd suggest spring to summer next year. There is no direct train that i know of from Beijing but you can change at Shenyang pretty easily. The train arrives at Fushun North and its a half hour taxi to the park.

Visionland Construction
Gutterflower replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Footers are now going in for the Intamin Mega-Lite. Imagine vertical construction will be soon. Always good to see more of these in the world. No idea what this ride is but it has a large indoor section and a short outdoor section too. Looks like it may be water based. -
Wonder Island
Gutterflower replied to Thrillrider15's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With the exception of Afterburn and runaway mine train. If by runaway mine train you mean the big yellow coaster. That was second hand as well. it came from Kure Portopialand. Which is by far and away one of the hardest coasters I've ever tried to find pictures for. These pictures from Schwarzkopf-coasters.net are still the best I've seen. http://schwarzkopf-coaster.net/ESAndalusiaRailroad-KureGF.htm -
Wonder Island
Gutterflower replied to Thrillrider15's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have a bat signal? Sweet Afraid I can't add much more beyond its definitely a new installation. The Hopi Hari ride just got the go ahead to be built finally and then almost instantly got wrapped up in another legal battle so thats staying put in Brazil. The Cinecitta ride is staying put for now as well. As mentioned GameWalkThrRUS above the park has advertised it as 120km/h which is significantly faster than current Intamin 10 inversion coasters. However I'd take that with a grain of salt. If I was to make an educated guess I'd say you will see a standard newer model Intamin 10-Inversion coaster appear. Building a giant custom coaster would be a bit out of character for a park who so far has settled for cookie cutter clones or second hand rides. (With the exception of Afterburn which will be making way for this ride anyway). But never say never especially with a park like Wonder Island. -
New Wanda Parks in China.
Gutterflower replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nothing yet I'm afraid. This park is always fairly difficult to dig stuff up on and it doesn't even open until June next year so they may not be on site. I'll post when I find any though.
