I am sorry to hear that. Before they had Intimidator, Grizzly was my favorite ride there.

They have room to do more with the prelift, if they wanted to. My guess is that it wasn't important. I certainly don't care much about a prelift.

Got to spend a couple hours at Kings Dominion last night after picking up the car. I was surprised how dark the whole park was. It made navigating between rides a bit more difficult than I'm used to. Also, why would they make you enter Grizzly from the Dino entrance building. I didn't like that. Oh, and I-305 is quite good.

The peninsula is narrower and has less trees. But Dragster, Millennium Force, and Magnum have all been down from wind.

Because the locals did not drive 2+ million to Sea World every year. That's the group that pushed GL over a million per year. I made that pretty clear, I thought.

TL;DR

I don't know how you can blame the locals. That park was always around 700_900k visitors, not including the Sea World guests who bought a 2 park ticket. I attended several times per year throughout the 80s and 90s. It was also a frequent location for corporate buyouts. The park that Cedar Fair closed was doing about 700k per year. It was a mistake to ever think it would match Cedar Point in attendance. And an even bigger mistake to think that combining parks would combine the attendance. When Cedar Fair bought it, I was expecting a return to the 80s and 90s park. I felt like it was doing that just fine. Moving the water park just expanded the footprint unnecessarily, unless you expect to close the park in the other county.

I'm torn between the better reviewed hotels in Ashland and being able to walk to the park from Best Western.

Unless something comes up, I will be in Ashland on Friday to buy a car. (Brother-in-law totaled mine...) So I very well may get to see I-305 from somewhere other than I-95.

After looking for detailed images of the RMC support systems, I cannot find a clear difference in construction before track in attached. They all seem to use the same steel ledgers and brackets regardless of track type. I would love to see them keep this classified as "wooden" and go after some records.

An Intamin between the likes of Millennium Force and Intimidator 305, with lap bars and low fast turns between a couple speed hills would be nice back there.
