One park built the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster in the world that dives through a lake and Winterfest and one park bought a starflyer. Darien Lake doesn’t care about “beating” Wonderland, so it doesn’t matter anyway, but very few people will agree with you. You mean other than a very similar ride with a better lighting package? Starflyers are better rides, but Windseeker wins in the lighting department Windseeker has projection lights for the tower, SkyScreamer has LED along the entire tower. (Completely different system, Bill.) In all fairness, I have not yet seen Yukon Striker at night, but visually speaking at night time, the Vortex/Yukon Striker area is not lit up very well at night time. Darien Lake beats Wonderland in this department. They always have. Now if only they put new light-weight LED on the ferris wheel.

Does the lighting package on SkyScreamer move, change, scroll, etc, or it stays in the same configuration. It doesn't matter, I am just asking. In my opinion, Darien Lake has beat Canada's Wonderland this year. Wonderland does not have anything close to as beautiful as this. If they could put a lighting package on the giant wheel like this it would be amazing. Congratulations, Six Flags Darien Lake. Darien Lake has been beating Wonderland in some areas for many years now. The theatre show is far superior to any show at Wonderland. Wonderland's theatre show is a cirque show that has not changed for over 10 years now, very boring. A nice 30 minutes of sleep time. Also Wonderland has StarLight spectacular. It is a nice dancing waters show along main street, but it really could be so much more. Seen it once, seen it twice. Most people just keep walking by and there are too many trees to really see it good. I could watch Darien Lake's laser show every night of the season.

They just rebuilt the kids area of the waterpark this year, (which no one here ever talks about because it is not a coaster), so who knows. I know the slides in SplashWorks are always busy, but compared to the number of people who actually go to Wonderland, the percentage of people who go to the waterpark is low, because most people who go to Wonderland now are the people who live across the street. These people can easily take a dip in their own pools, have lunch or dinner and come back to the park, faster than it takes to get on one slide. Perhaps after the hotel is built, the need for a water park expansion would be more needed. Also, Great Canadian Minebuster will never be removed from Canada's Wonderland. They have invested way too much money finishing Frontier Canada which included Minebuster in the original plans and still includes Minebuster today. What is in the way of the original plans Is SplashWorks. If I were to throw out a wild statement, it would be to move the entire waterpark closer to the hotel along Wonderland Drive and then there would be a massive area for a huge Frontier Canada expansion. Who thinks that would be an amazing idea? -

Yep, food, overhead bins and the weather. Oh, and the go-karts at Wonderland are not going anywhere. They are very profitable and they designed Leviathan over the track and actually spent money to reconfigure the track. The go-karts will be there for many years to come. Just because they are not a coaster, doesn't mean they are not popular. Expect Medieval Faire to be the next expanded area in the park though. It has a lot of potential. They haven't put in something new in that area for many years. I said that when Cedar Fair bought Wonderland that they would build coasters to surround the park. Let's see if I have been correct so far. Behemoth on the Rutherford Road side, Leviathan on the Major Mackenzie Drive side. Yukon Striker on the Hwy 400 side. Hmm, and my prediction for the next big coaster will have to be in Expo. Perhaps interacting with Behemoth in the south-east corner near Kingswood, along behind Time Warp and Flight Deck and over to the front gate and interact with Leviathan. That will complete the east side of the park. -

I find it interesting that people have not posted anything about Yukon Striker or Frontier Canada here, for weeks now. I guess food and the weather is more interesting. I'm going to Wonderland next week. I will post something then. -

If it was at Disney, people would love it and rate it one of the best dark rides in the World. lol Disney would never waste their money on something like Guardian and Disney would never build a ride that only dispatches 8 people at a time. How many times have you gone on Toy Story and have your gun not work after waiting in line for an hour? -

Get on Yukon Striker first. Stand in the single rider line and you might even be able to get on 2 or 3 times while other people are still lined up for Thunder Run and Guardian. Guardian is one of those 'garbage rides' that take forever to get on for a very lame ride. Guardian is one that we are interested in doing. I was assuming that rope-dropping it would be a priority? We all had this discussion when they first put this ride in the mountain and I am not starting again with you, Bill. If you have ever been on Spider-man or Harry Potter at Universal Orlando, then you will be disappointed in waiting in line for Guardian. For me, I do go on it a couple of times a year now but I will wait a maximum of 15 minutes only because I don't live near Universal. If I didn't have a season pass, then I would not want to waste my time with this ride. I will leave this choice up to you, defrocker. Please let us all know what you think of Wonder Mountain's Guardian. -

It has been a while since I have posted, but this has been bothering me. After giving the rides in Med Faire, their original names back, why did they not do it to Spinovator? Spinovator's original name was Quixote's Kettles, a much more fitting name in a "new" Medieval Faire. Spinovator will stick out like a sore thumb to me. I won't be able to look at that name. It no longer fits in Med Faire. What do you all think? I also want to ask everyone if you think they will have a Pin Trading Program this year. Most other Cedar Fair parks have pins to buy. Canada's Wonderland has not sold pins for years. -

If you have been on Valravn, then you have already been on Yukon Striker. Exactly the same coaster, just a bit higher drop and a small difference in layout. Basically sister coasters, IMO. -

Okay, I get it. If you don't live near Wonderland and still come a couple of times, then a season pass is worth it and a fast lane is worth it too. I just don't get it, if you live across the street and buy a fast lane. However, if you live across the street, then I guess you can afford to throw money away. That's what I am trying to say. -

To be fair the casa loma event is also pretty copy-cat-ish being that they only do slight changes each year. It is very very well done. But so is Wonderland. I took my kid to Casa Loma again but also Wonderland for the first time for Haunt and he was blown away. So many mazes, so much to do. Casa Loma you are in and out in less than an hour. The Ruins with the flashlights is such a great experience. I am just happy we are in a city that has both. Well, this was my first time to the Casa Loma event this year. I would imagine that not too much would change from year to year. I guess you could just walk quickly through, but I spent an hour and a half there, and if I had stopped at the half-way restaurant/shooter bar, It would be over 2 hours. I guess you can be "blown-away" by seeing things for the first time. I want to talk about my Haunt trip this year in a bit more detail. Keep watching here. I will try to post my tr sometime next week. -

I waited until November 7th to write this. Not one comment about Halloween Haunt this year on TPR. My advice for anyone living in the Wonderland area. Forget about the, very stale, very copy-cat-ish Halloween Haunt and go to the Casa Loma event. Very theatrical, elaborate sets, costumes and scareactors. Just like Halloween Haunt used to be. I actually went to both events this year and will post my trip reports soon. Very quickly, Halloween Haunt was same-old, same-old and Casa Loma was amazing! -

The "hard to walk on" quote was actually my quote. I much prefer to walk on the blacktop with my sandals on compared to concrete and brick, and I agree with you that Wonderland, Darien Lake, Disney and Universal are in different leagues. I do want to ask you something for the next time you are at Wonderland. Go to the Snoopy Boutique and look along the path towards Boo Blasters, and then walk along to in front of the Boo Blasters queue and look back along that path towards Snoopy Boutique. I think that is the most beautiful path at Canada's Wonderland. What do you think? I need to say I love DL and CWL sometimes to keep on topic. -

What entry plaza? Never mind, i'm not in the mood to debate this. Just tell me one thing. What theming is on Behemoth? Action Zone has a style of its own, I never said theming. The flat rides in the area share a similar entryway arch and Behemoth fits not only the colour scheme but also the nature of attractions over there. The reds, yellows blacks and behemoth’s blues all work out nicely in one area. And that’s the main point of action zone to me, it all balances happily and looks like it was designed to look as such. Which, shocker - it was. As for my comment about being better than Darien Lake, and being one of the more beautiful parks I’ve visited, I’m including in that, the Disney World parks as well as BGW. There’s a certain charm to CW that’s hard to emulate in other parks, I personally love the look and feel of the CW atmosphere - especially that awesome centerpiece, Wonder Mountain. There is theming around the park, way more than needed (because again, as an AMUSEMENT park they don’t really need to add any theming at all). Coasters like Flight Deck, Backlot Stunt Coaster and arguably Time Warp all have some theming elements, there are 4 zones that come to mind as being themed as well - international street, medeval faire, frontier Canada, 1929 World Expo. Whether the theming is extensive or subtle, it’s there. I’m also a fan of how the majority of the parks pathways are either laid brick or cement. Coming from a home park where the majority of the pathways are Blacktop, and also considering that’s what Cedar Point was for the longest time (mainly in the back half of the park - frontier trail, Gemini midway etc) that’s a nice change to see in a regional theme park. I believe Kings Island is similar, probably because it was also a Paramount park at one time. The main point in all of this is that there is theming at wonderland. If you would like to discuss parks with little to no theming, Darien Lake, Cedar Point, Fantasy Island, Seabreeze, Knoebels and Dorney Park would love to have a word with you. And those are just the few off of my head that I could think of at this moment. One final thing though, and this is important - A park does NOT have to be themed to be successful. Sure it helps add to the experience but it is NOT a requirement. I was not going to get into this, but, Paint colour is not the theming i meant. Now, comparing Canada's Wonderland's theming to Walt Disney World, um. So, Flaying Canoes and Dumbo and the Carpet Ride are themed great. But what about the Spinning Dinosaur ride in Animal Kingdom and The Fly. What about Goofy's BarnStormer and SilverStreak? Every ride at WDW has theming. You can't say that about Wonderland. What about Jurassic Park at Universal Studios and TimberWolf Falls. Flight Deck, BLSC and Time Warp were themed after Paramount Studio movies, over 12 years ago, and the names were changed by Cedar Fair. The 4 zones you mention were never used by Paramount Parks, and give credit to Kings Entertainment for the "hard to walk on" concrete and brick walkways. I agree with you about theming at DL, but the atmosphere there is amazing. From the second you walk in to the last second of your visit, the smell of the flowers and the overall look of Dl beats Wonderland hands down. I love DL and Wonderland.
