  1. I have REALLY got to get myself up to this park before long! Hopefully late next year, when I'd like to plan to visit my brother in LA/hit up West Coast Bash/AND take a Bro Road Trip up the coast to CGA and SFDK!
  2. I've already forgotten the name, without going back to look at it! I do know, however, that this is a fantastic addition for Magic Mountain, and I love the surmised location! Assuming it's replacing the abandoned monorail station, which it appears to be, it'll already be elevated, and then with its record breaking height, will be visible on the upswing to those on Samurai Summit, which will be cool to see from up there, and it will simply tower over the new boardwalk area below, and look even more impressive! This addition was a definite home run for the park, forgettable (and regrettable) name notwithstanding!
  3. Not sure if I'm laughing at the addition, or the addition's name, or the addition's lack of a name, but I find this to be the most hilarious of SF's announcements this morning! Honestly, the addition, for what it is, is actually kind of cool, being the largest of its kind. But WTF with the name situation??? It's almost as if (like I mentioned in the SFOT thread) they accidentally gave the wrong name to their new flat there, and that Harley Quinn name was supposed to go on THIS! Oh well... What's works in China, can work in Chicago, right?
  4. I'm totally down with this addition, as I've been anxiously awaiting one of these coming Stateside for years, as I mentioned in the GAdv thread! But what leaves me gape-mouthed, and waiting for another shoe to drop, is the dumbfounding duplicated name... Like... WTF??? I'm trying to decide if they accidentally gave the name of Great America's Giant Larson Looper to this ride, and now are trying to figure out damage control, and what to do!
  5. ^You really shouldn't be... Death (the Grim Reaper) is the ultimate troll...
  6. Oh boy! I've been looking forward to the day one of these things actually landed where I could give it a whirl! I don't think my 39 year old self could handle two rides, but I'll definitely give it one go! Glad to see a park I go to at least semi-regularly is getting it! Nice to see Cyborg finally get his due beyond just the JL animatronic as well!
  7. A shorter ride means the line will move faster. I can't believe someone has a complaint about an RMC conversion of a coaster that has seen its day. Seriously! I mean, the ride doesn't look like Steel Vengeance in length, or even Wicked Cyclone, but it looks really fun, and will be a great addition to SFoG! Can't wait to ride it, myself!
  8. I consider Cedar Point my "Home Park", but on any given visit there are a ton of smaller rides I don't ride, just because there are SO many, and not enough time. My main focus is coasters, and my favorite flats. So the following are simply the coasters or rides I ALWAYS AVOID! Corkscrew - HORRID, HORRID, HORRID, HORRID!!!! Nuff said... Wilderness Run - I have kids, so I COULD ride it, when I take them, but they don't have interest, and it's mind-numbingly boring (and I have the "credit" already from when I was a kid), so I'll likely never ride it again, except maybe with my 3 year old when he's big enough. Maybe... Probably not even then... Thunder Canyon - I'm not saying I'll NEVER ride it again... But I haven't ridden it since probably before half the posters on this forum were born, so clearly, it's not a priority to me, and it seems unlikely that' going to change anytime soon! I'm just not into rides that get me wet in my clothes, and not really into changing at amusement parks. I still ride Grand Rapids at MiA though occasionally though... So go figure... *shrugs* Did I mention Corkscrew? Other than those, I can't think of anything at CP I WOULDN'T ride, other than maybe Monster (glorified fair ride, not sure I've ever ridden it there to be honest). Heck, even Frog Hoppers can be fun! I just tend to NOT ride much other than my favorite coasters, and flats, when I go. When you've been as much as I have, you just prioritize what you like the most, and take the rest of the park in stride (and always make time to relax and enjoy a brewski at some point during the day!)
  9. This is the first I've posted on the subject, and probably the last, but dang... I LOVED Dueling Dragons (never been there since they've been neutered to Dragon Challenge), and will miss them VERY, VERY much! They were definitely in my upper echelon of B&M Inverts, and coasters in general, just for the experience, and the cool and unique dueling aspect of the ride. I understand that they lost some of that already, which is a shame. But still, even without the dueling, it sounds like they were running great, so they'll be a great loss to the coaster community... RIP, Dueling Dragons... You WILL be missed... (Thanks for those pictures Erik! They brought back a lot of memories, and prompted me to actually post!)
  10. I know I'm in the minority here, but I prefer Ka to TTD! Now, I've ONLY ridden it in the front, all three times I've ridden it. But all three rides were simply awesome! And with no bad, or even mediocre rides on it yet, I'm sold on the Ka as the Kingda!
  11. Stay away from the Super 8 in Mason, I have never heard anything good about it. Well, never say never! You're about to! I took my three kids there this year, and stayed two nights, and it was great! It cost less than $50 a night, had a nice Continental Breakfast (including waffles!), a pool the kids loved, and the best part for us (as non passholders) was that we didn't have to pay for parking at KI, since they had a free shuttle to the park! Sure, the place isn't the Ritz, but the worst snafu, was the lack of a shower curtain when we got there. If I had really pressed the issue, we could have gotten one, but it wasn't a big deal to me. Other than that, the room was great, and we enjoyed our stay there! So yeah, if you're budget conscious, and don't need anything fancy, and like a few extra frills, the Super 8 in Mason isn't half bad really! (And now there's at least ONE positive review on TPR about it! )
  12. Cedar Point seems to be in the habit of building giant record breaking coasters, which has been bringing in the crowd. It would be more difficult to market a small scale coaster or GCI after years of bigger and 'better' coasters. In my opinion, the park has plenty to do for children and families, even if in not necessarily in equal proportion to their major thrill rides. Let CP bring in the giants, while still catering sufficiently, but not exceedingly, to children and families. Let parks like KI pick up the slack. THIS. I'm not saying we'll never see a smaller GCI woodie, or a smaller family attraction, but at the same time, when Ouimet came in, he really took a view of each park that looked at what their individual strengths were, and what their potential, and focus should be. And CP IS a thrill park. It's THE thrill park. And no matter how many "know it all enthusiasts" I heard talk about how CP "needed" to balance out their additions back about 5 years ago, and move away from large coaster additions for more family friendly ones, that's just not what CP is all about, and I said so back then. And the last 5 years have proven that, with the addition of Valravn and now Steel Vengeance. We'll see what the future holds, but as Zach said, when you set a standard with your additions of being "bigger and better", it's harder to sell something smaller to the masses. That's what the smaller CF parks are able to do, and have done. That's why a place like KI is able to co-exist well in proximity to CP, because it really is a very different style of park, with a different targeted demographic that it's focusing on - much more family friendly - so CP doesn't need to be.
  13. I don't buy this argument when Kings Island is closer to Cedar Point than Michigan's Adventure is and they regularly invest in that park. a) Kings Island has nothing to do with Michigan's population, which is the second largest draw for attendance at Cedar Point. and b) Comparing Kings Island to Michigan's Adventure is like comparing Apples to Oranges anyway... Believe me guys... I could write a Doctoral Dissertation on this subject, that is fact based, and VERY persuasive... You can choose not to buy it if you want, but that doesn't make it any less real of a situation...
  14. Lightning Run really is awesome. I can't believe more parks haven't bought into Chance since then. I personally like the coaster better than Storm Chaser. It's a bit more re-rideable. That's interesting... I found LR, while a great little coaster, to be far less re-rideable than Storm Chaser! I was there at KK for an enthusiast event, so I got a ton of opportunities for ERT and re-rides, and ended up with 20 rides on Storm Chaser, while I cut LR off after 8 laps. It's funny how coasters affect different people differently!
  15. Believe me... At least here in the Lansing area, the "GP", aren't that interested in MiA, BECAUSE they never add anything new of note. We're not talking enthusiasts like me and everybody here. We're talking virtually everybody I know in the area here. People would rather drive the extra hour to CP than go to MiA, where there's nothing much good there (except the water park - ST doesn't shiver the GP's timbers like it does ours). Until MiA actually starts making regular capital investments (which I don't see happening), regular people from this part of Michigan at least, and I dare say farther East as well, won't really care, or come, not when they have CP so close. And you know what? That's EXACTLY what Cedar Fair wants, and why they bought the park, and why there WON'T be any major capital investments there... I've come to accept that the park is what it is now. And that's not a bad thing. CP isn't that far, and that's really my "home park" anyway, and always has been, so it's all good...
  16. My issue with them is that I rode this exact same attraction at a cheap A$$ traveling weekend carnival 15+ years ago, and they were fine for a carnival attraction just like a fun house or zipper, but they are a tacky addition to parks that have invested millions into long lasting permanent attractions. See, I agree with you there... But this is where you and I are just not in sync with the GP... Peeps do dig these things, and will ride them in large numbers, And as long as that's happening, parks will continue to add them. And frankly, I think it's a solid addition, all things considered, for VF, in that particular location!
  17. Even with all the negative - or at least "meh" - reviews, Hydra is still one of the coasters on my bucket list of coasters I MOST want to ride! I guess I just stubbornly believe it'll be as cool as it's always looked to me since I first saw the concept art! (The truth is, I'm just relentlessly stubborn - period! )
  18. I loved Ragin' Cajun when it was at GAm! I'm still sore they removed it, even though a Free Spin is now in its old spot!
  19. Wait, it is??? From who??? I still think it's one of the best RMC coasters out there! Saying "low-tier RMC" is an oxymoron in itself. All ten RMCs I've ridden are in my top 25 coasters. NTAG is definitely in the top half, I'd say - I love how long it is! Agreed! I've only ridden three RMC's so far, but all three are in my Top 10 currently, Top 9, really! (including the most maligned RMC, Goliath!) Maverick is a Top 3 coaster for me, and in constant consideration for my top spot (because as Robb says, really, when it comes to ranking these things, it's all semantics and minutiae anyway, and they're all about the same amount of awesome!), and "SVen" looks like it's going to blow it away come next year!
  20. I'm not really a "fan" of these types of rides, personally, but I think it's a great fit for Valleyfair, and will look great there in that section of the park! I think Cedar Fair really hit a Home Run with their additions for 2018!
  21. I hardly even know where to begin in talking about Steel Vengeance! It's everything I could have hoped for the coaster to be, and more! I'm definitely going to be getting my CF Platinum Pass next year, and will be going to CP early (Opening Day) and often! Count me in as well, among those who will be clamoring for Coastermania tickets, and I've never been before, so hopefully I'll be able to get what will undoubtedly be a super hot ticket. RMC really went all out on this one, and it will likely be their defining masterpiece for years to come! I'm a little surprised that it appears CP didn't take the opportunity to expand Frontier Town here, and open up the dead end there on the other side of the train tracks, since doing things like that with new coaster additions has been their M.O. in recent years, and it seemed like the area was begging for enhancement. But maybe that's still to come, and they just haven't announced it yet, nor bothered to show it on the renderings. I guess we'll see over the months ahead. This is my 2000th TPR post! How better to use it, than talking about Cedar Point's latest and greatest scream machine? Steel Vengeance! Can't Wait!!!
  22. While I was impressed the addition of Wonder Woman at SFFT, and I still think that's a great addition for that park, and looks nice there, THIS blows it away in my opinion! For me, I'm a HUGE fan of themeing, and all the rocks, tunnels, and water surrounding this installation really add to this version's presentation! I LOVE the entire look of the coaster, and its surrounding area, and think it's a fantastic addition to the park. I've never been to CGA, but I've already told my brother who lives in LA that the next time I visit him, we're taking a Bro Road Trip up the coast to the Bay Area to hit up CGA and SFDK, and I'm definitely excited to be able to get a ride on this coaster! That back seat sure looks like the "money seat" on these Raptor coasters! Coming over that first drop especially... Woo Hoo!!! Another perfect fit for Cedar Fair!
  23. I haven't been to the Virginia parks since 2002, and I've been wanting to get back ever since. I was thinking of going this year, until I got the feeling (earlier than most, if you search back through this thread) that Hurler was going to be RMC'd in 2018, and delayed that until next year. So now I'm really geeked for my highly anticipated return then! TT looks SO great, and it'll be my first time on I-305 as well! But yeah, KD hit it out of the park with this RMC makeover, and while it's not nearly as impressive as Steel Vengeance in my opinion, it's not too far behind!
  24. I delayed my first ever trip to SDC until their new coaster was built, and I'm glad I did! This looks great! I will say that all the spinning makes me a little nervous, because although I used to LOVE spinning like a madman, since my mid-30's it hasn't been so kind to me! Hopefully I handle it well though, because this looks fun as heck! I'm thinking my "family vacation" next year will be taking the kids to Branson, and finally enjoying this lovely park, and enjoying some "Time Travel!"
  25. Now THAT will get me back to Knott's when I'm visiting my brother in LA in the future!!! Great addition for Knott's, and to echo pretty much everybody's sentiments, Cedar Fair just KILLED IT with their 2018 additions overall! I even think the Superloop for Valleyfair was a solid move. Now, just waiting for the announcement about the new massaging park bench for MiA next year!
