Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I second this! I refuse to ride it anymore... I took my kids for their first time earlier this year, and my two older kids listened to my words of wisdom, and passed on riding it, but the third born, who is 9 (the most daring of the bunch actually, he rode TTD at CP when I took him this year, and the older two have not been willing to yet!) wanted to still give it a go. At first, I was going to make him ride it alone, and was going to step through after waiting in line with him, but then decided I'd go ahead and ride... Big mistake! Ugh! Such a crappy ride!!! I asked Daniel (my son) what he thought after we got back, and he had seen the error of his ways, and said it was terrible. So there you go... I definitely would hope they remove Vortex for something else long before removing The Bat, which is a much better coaster experience still! Having said that, if any park has space to expand with large coasters, without removing anything, it's KI. -
What is your next park?

I'll be going to Kings Island for Haunt on none other than... Friday the 13th! HA HA HA!!! (My attempt at a vampire cackle... Doesn't really translate over text though... ) I think RAWKIN_Coaster38 will be meeting me there, as will another coaster enthusiast friend of mine. But if anybody else wants to join the group, hit me up! The more the merrier! -

2 visits??? Greedy. 2 Visits? Think that's greedy? I'm sure I'll have that in by the time they're open for their first full week! I'm basically planning on living at CP for the entire month of May during weekdays! Lots of minimal waits on SV for me!!! -

These are the reasons I most often hear for why people prefer TTD as well. I haven't ever ridden KK anywhere but in the front, so I can't speak to the lack of smoothness, but it sounds like that's a valid complaint, from what I've heard. However, while the restraints ARE better on TTD, I don't think they make that big of a difference in actual ride experience to me. The view from the top is so short either place, it doesn't really play a major factor to me either... I confess that I love CP, and it's my favorite Amusement Park! However, I don't consider myself an unreasonable fanboy. Hence... I too, lean towards Kingda Ka, over Dragster, given its superior speed, height, and the extra hill after the drop. Plus, arguably my favorite color scheme of any coaster! -

^ I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that! I used to be all business, but peeps stopped wanting to go with me, so now I'm much more chill. Plus, more drinking is invloved this way, which is always a plus! -

I remove myself from this kind of person very quickly. Say it ain't so, Guy! You, of ALL people, should have a sense of humor about such things! In my opinion, if you can't have fun and laugh a bit when visiting an amusement park, why go at all? One year my sister and I sang a different Twenty One Pilots song while going down the lift hill of each main roller coaster... When you've been to CP as many times as I have, you've got to keep the experience fresh however possible! -
The ironic thing about SFGAdv's cell phone policy, is it indirectly CAUSED my phone to get all cracked up! I was a good boy when I went earlier this year, and put my phone in the 1ocker, and really, I wasn't bothered to do so, because El Toro is so aggressive, I didn't want to risk cracking the screen while it was in my pocket (I guarantee you it wouldn't have come out of my pockets). However, when I went to take it out afterward... It slipped out of my hand, and hit that hard and rough concrete there, and cracked all up! Thanks SFGAdv! Oh well... I tried... I guess I'm just doomed to crack up a phone every year at an amusement park now, regardless! (Maybe it's a lesson to get a case one of these years! ) Oh, and this reminds me... I still haven't written my TR for that trip, which was July 5th! Maybe some day...

I went to SFStL, and granted, it was in the early 2000's, but I thought it was a great little park! -

Am I the only one that finds the personification of coasters kinda creepy? Calling Steel Vengeance 'SteVen' is just strange to me...to each their own I suppose... I've called Maverick "Mavvie", and Magnum "Maggie", and MF "Millie" for years (haven't started calling Valravn "Val" yet though...), but I'm not feeling "SteVen" at all, sorry to say... I might take to calling it "SVen" ("SVennie"), but the other just seems odd for a coaster to me... Too... human, or something! (Not that there aren't humans named Maggie, but for whatever reason it seems more odd to me...) Why not Vallie? Good call! Vallie it is! (Sorry Bill, I just can't stop calling ID, "Draggin' Iron"... ) -

I'm planning to go to Haunt on Friday the 13th next month, as I thought that'd be a cool day to use my free day that comes with getting my CF Platinum Pass! I just wondered if people thought it would be busier than a usual Friday because of the "special" date, or if that shouldn't affect it much. I know it's a hard thing predicting crowds, but I wasn't sure if this has happened before, where a Haunt Friday was on the 13th as well. Thanks for any input, or even just opinions on what to expect! Also, I'll just go to the Season Pass Center first, to process my paper ticket, right? Then they'll give me my pass for next year, and a ticket for that night or something? I've only ever gotten a pass at CP before, so I'm unfamiliar with the process at KI. Thanks again! -

SO, SO, agreed... -
Nope, it's definitely, objectively, a coaster of average length. The only people who ever say it's short are enthusiasts on message boards. We don't need more echo chambers. You're cherry picking one part of my comment, and missing the whole point of my post, which was that the length of the ride is irrelevant if it's fun as heck like Goliath is! It IS pretty short in duration (length of time on the ride - not talking track length). That is an objective statement. I've ridden a crap ton of coasters in my life (so I have a lot of experience to compare it to), but have a normal life outside of all that, and am by no means a typical raving coaster enthusiast. There's no echo chamber here...

Don't go to CP on any Saturday during Haunt! (Especially if there is also a concert at the park that day!) -

I agree with this completely! I MUCH prefer Log Flumes to those water rides! -
I only voted for Facebook, because while I technically "have" a Twitter, I virtually NEVER use it. Don't use any of the other options at all. Even with FB, I deactivated my account back in February, and haven't reactivated it yet. I only use Messenger currently. So I guess besides TPR, I'm not a very social guy!

If you want to do Nighthawk, hit that first, before the line becomes the only significant wait in the park, and then hit Intimidator. After that, I'd go to the back, and do Afterburn, and anything else back there you'd like to ride. After that, just work your way back towards Fury, riding whatever else you're interested in, and then marathon Fury with the rest of your time there! Oh, and despite what coasterbill says, AVOID VORTEX AT ALL COSTS!!! Your body will thank you! -

I haven't been to KD in 15 years, so I can't really speak to comparisons between it and KI. But I profusely disagree with the notion that KI is ugly! In fact, I think that KI is one of the better looking Cedar Fair parks, and leaves Cedar Point in the dust in the appearance category! Sure, it's not as tree lined as it was back at the beginning of the 2000's, but is sure has a lot better coasters and rides now than it did then, and it still has a lot of trees, especially compared to a place like CP.
