What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
DILinator replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm always happy to see somebody else have Kraken in their Top 10! (Even if they do have a Vekoma Flying Dutchman in there as well! ) -
What is your favorite launch coaster?
DILinator replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maverick is definitely my favorite, and hey! You get two launches! Honorable mentions to Storm Runner and Volcano though. I'm glad to see them getting some love in this thread, because I think they tend to be underrated when people think of launched coasters! -

I've always enjoyed Intamin's coasters, heck, there are more of them in my top 5 coasters than B&M! But I love B&M too, and these two loves, are not mutually exclusive! Fun fact: The least intense coaster I have ever ridden is an Intamin... "No, it can't be!!!", cry the fanboys! Sure thing... Wilderness Express. Every manufacturer can make any level of thrill. It just depends on what the park wants, not their capabilities. -
TOP 5 B&M INVERTED COASTERS
DILinator replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is pretty much how I feel. I've never really "gotten" the love for the Batman clones - not that they're bad rides. Their particular brand of intensity just isn't my favorite experience on an Invert. 1. Banshee 2. Montu 3. Alpengeist 4. Dragon Challenge coasters (though, the last time I rode them, they were still called Dueling Dragons) 5. Silver Bullet And yes, I have ridden Afterburn at Carowinds. I would place it 6th. Another coaster that I really like, but don't get the "hype" for that I see in enthusiast circles... -

Shoot the Rapids at CP had that accident in 2013, where the boat flipped over. Intamin made StR. Intamin also made CP's other most frequently broken down coasters. CF has definitely had their share of headaches with Intamin, and it certainly seems like they have made it a point to go elsewhere (frequently, B&M) for coasters recently. Does this mean a CF park will never get another Intamin? I don't believe it necessarily means that. But I do think it looks likely that we won't be seeing a massive new Intamin expenditure from CF for a little while longer. I would love to see some more Intamins at Cedar Fair parks (specifically, a Bizzaro (SFNE) clone+ at MiA, and an Intamin pre-fab woodie like El Toro+ at CP! ) soon, but I have real doubt that it's going to happen... -

What!? No way! I don't care how good I305 may be - Shivering Timbers is an awesome airtime woodie, one of my top coasters overall, and it's not that far to CP to ride MF if you need to get your speed on! Listen its a good trade. We trade up to I305. Then we sell I305 and buy timbers back and a intamin megalite I see what you did there... -

That stinks that your ride was trimmed so much! I don't recall that being a huge issue on my ride, though I did notice that in a few spots. I haven't been on Apollo's Chariot in FOREVER, but I loved it back then, so I wouldn't be surprised if it still was better than Intimidator. Sometimes, it's hard for me to rank two similar coasters, that I have ridden so far apart. Obviously, the more recently ridden coaster is more fresh in my mind, and seems better. But that is certainly not always the case! -

Wow! That's surprising to hear! I rode Intimidator (not 305) last month, and it had tons of airtime for me! Speaking broadly again (not to a specific poster), I think a lot of this debate centers around somebody's personal definition of airtime. From what I've seen, there is a faction of enthusiast that does not seem to consider "floater" air, airtime - only "ejector" air. Personally, I enjoy them both, and (I feel rightly) acknowledge both as actual airtime. While a pop of ejector air is certainly fun, I have to confess: I think I actually prefer sustained floater air myself! Again, to each their own... I just think a lot of this dispute about intensity and coasters, boils down to people's opinions on whether floater air is "legit" airtime or not. -
I do love B&M Hypers, and I do find them quite exciting, and full of airtime usually! In fact, they populate 5 spots in my personal steel Top 25. Having said that, I agree that they don't have that "Wow" factor after getting off that you mentioned, Robb. I'm always pleased and excited afterwards, but they are not mind-blowing. Still, I think it all boils down to personal preference, even regarding airtime. I prefer strong, but not violent airtime, while many enthusiasts seem to prefer the violent ejector. If you prefer the former, as I do, B&M Hypers are going to rank a little higher for you. If the latter, I can see where the "tame" designation is coming from... Still think it's a great choice for Sea World, however!

Honest question, for those who may know... Which park draws more attendance from D.C.? SFA, or KD? My assumption, which could be false, is that SFA would do well as a park because of its proximity to two major cities in Washington and Baltimore. But I am getting the impression that is not the case...

^Ok, I thought that must be what you were doing! I DO know what you are referring to, after the announcement. I was surprised at all of the complaining, because I was quite excited about it! I suspect, as you do, that when all is said and done, the complainers will all ride it anyway, and really like it!

You guys are definitely right about Skyrush! Intense is a very apt description for that coaster! Definitely my fave at HP, and solidly in my Top 15 as well! I think if I got a chance to ride it more than once (went to HP for Twilight special only that particular time), it would likely climb in my rankings. As it stands, I loved it, but my most vivid memory of it is the infamous "thigh crush", which I think hurt my evaluation of it a little, in my estimation. -

^Maybe it rides differently in the very back, but most of my rides were there, and it was VERY intense! And the airtime that is most memorable was not the hills on the way back, but the sideways ejector air I got that nearly chucked me from the train on the way out! I haven't ridden I305 yet to compare, but I can say confidently, that of all of the coasters I have ridden - and that is not small number - Fury has it all: Speed, Intensity, Airtime, and a interesting layout that interacts well with its surroundings - something that I can judge I305 to be lacking in, without having ridden it. I do hope to get out to KD again and make a proper comparison of the two at some point over the next couple of years, however! -
I'm not sure if you were more making a quip about Diamondback, or meant what you said, but I don't think B&M Hypers are tame, nor do most of the people - both GP and enthusiast - I know personally. So not "everyone" feels that way. Again, that is primarily an "enthusiast" attitude that I see only in circles such as these, and where people are judging "tame" by their own personal preference, not a tangible one...
