  1. Don't do drugs. Anyways, I wonder if KD will be doing anything special for Shockwave's departure? Carowinds has been giving out pins daily to the first 100 riders on Thunder Road and has put up some signage commemorating it. Although, I'd argue Thunder Road is both more historical and a much better ride than Shockwave. At least we still have Rebel Yell. Yeah. Thunder Road is a very good classic racing woodie. It's so disappointing to see parks taking them down.
  2. BREAKING NEWS: K*NGS D*M*N**N HAS BEEN SOLD TO SIX FLAGS!!!! The park will now be known as Six Flags Virginia Adventure. All of the park's theming from the C*d*r F**r era will be stripped and replaced with Batman, Superman, Looney Toons, Snickers, and no theming. In Six Flags style, all rides will be wrapped in desperate advertising. Ride renames: Volcano will now be Batman: The Ride Dominator will now be Scream Drop Tower: Scream Zone will now be Drop of Doom Anaconda will now be Viper Flight of Fear will now be Superman: Ultimate Flight Backlot: Stunt Coaster will now be X Woodstock Express will now be Road Runner Express Great Pumpkin Coaster will now be Canyon Blaster Hurler will now be Apocalypse Berserker will now be ACME Grizzly will now be Roar The Crypt will now be Top Spin Avalanche will now be The Official Coaster of Snickers Ricochet will now be Mr. Six' Pandemonium Soak City will now be Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (separate admission) We are also promising THREE NEW COASTERS in 2016! Shockwave will return after a two month hiatus Intimidator 305 will be torn down and replaced with a Vekoma Boomerang called Flashback. Rebel Yell will be torn down and replaced with the tallest and fastest Larson Loop coaster in Virginia, Goliath. All of the trees will be torn down to make way for Six Flags prominent parking lot landscaping. Everything will be extra charge. Bag storage, walking, riding, taking pictures, eating, drinking, paying, waiting in line, blinking, breathing, you name it! There's even a fee for paying a fee! Now we know what you're thinking... "We've never had it this way when the park was known as K*ngs D*m*n**n..." Six Flags Virgina Adventure! Have a Six Flags day starting 2016!
  3. No. I think the new coaster would be called King Kobra.
  4. I think Centurion would be a great name if they can get the trademark for it.
  5. Guys, get real. The NASCAR theme can and will stay without Earnhardt's name on it. It just would have to use a different name. Why would they waste money on retheming it when they can use that money towards new attractions?
  6. I agree. Virginia is not nearly as big on NASCAR and racing as the Carolina's are.
  7. Would King Dominion completely get rid of the racing theme of I305?
  8. Kings Dominion is in a new era now with Matt Ouimet - just look at all the attention to detail they have done with 2013's addition of Planet Snoopy, 2014's appreciation of the past with the 40th Anniversary, and 2015's spectacular looking Soak City. With that said, theming seems to be more important to the park now and I doubt will see another theming disaster. Intimidator 305 could easily be renamed and re-themed. All it takes is Cedar Fair and/or Dale Earnhardt Inc not wanting to resign the contact. It has been a rumor since 2010 that the initial contract ends at the end of the 2015 season - so maybe one or both parties did not want to sign another one? Remember, it is costing Cedar Fair money to have that name and maybe they don't see it worth it - especially now that merchandise isn't as hot 6 seasons later and Intimidator at Carowinds isn't the headliner anymore (cough cough Fury). And if they are to bring back an old name to the Candy Apple Grove for a coaster in Shockwave's spot I'd imagine it being 'Galaxie', the coaster that was in that location before Shockwave although I doubt they would ever do that. Ugh. Galaxie just sounds ugly.
  9. 1. I305 is never going to be renamed or re-themed. 2. King Kobra fits into Candy Apple Grove better than I305/Flight of Fear/Backlot Stunt Coaster fit into Safari Village.
  10. Mean Streak should get the first ever wooden RMC inversion. The should replace the layout and track except with wood this time around instead of the Iron Horse.
  11. If it's possible, Kings Dominion should bring back the King Kobra name for their next coaster! It would be a great homage to the original ride, kind of like The Bat at Kings Island!
  12. Huss isn't the only manufacturer of frisbee-style rides. But HUSS is the only good manufacturer of them.
  13. I couldn't disagree more... In 2013 Kings Dominion spent 8-9 million renovating and adding to their kids area with 8 new rides. It is one of the nicest Planet Snoopys in the chain now. With the park not getting a thrill ride since Windseeker in 2012 (Intimidator 305 in 2010 if you want to call Windseeker a family ride) and losing a thrill ride now I'm almost certain this will be a family/thrill ride(s) replacement and nothing as far as kiddie rides go. Also, if the rumors hold true expect a SlingShot somewhere in the park next season. I agree. It's not like Six Flags Magic Mountain where every year it's a new coaster.
  14. If Kings Dominion was owned by Six Flags, we'd be getting: 2016: Larson loop that counts as our "new coaster" 2017: Nothing 2018: One new slide 2019: New restaurant 2020: Nothing 2021: Vekoma boomerang to replace Hurler 2022: Re-paint of Dominator
  15. Also, Cedar Fair's history shows that they will get a coaster in the near future.
  16. Also, Cedar Fair's history shows that they will get a coaster in the near future.
  17. What flat ride could they get? All of the options have reliability issues, and as you know, Cedar Fair wants to avoid anything with reliability issues. Also, their family section is fine.
  18. Were. Past Tense. When I think of intense B&M inverts, I think of Montu, Alpengeist, Raptor, and the BTRs. Nothing after 2003 that I've been on has topped any of those for me. Banshee isn't bad, but it's definitely not on the same intensity level as the 90s era inverts. Anyhow, I really REALLY would be shocked to see a large coaster go in this spot. I'm not saying it won't, because we're all just guessing, but all the people thinking they will take out a coaster AND a kiddie ride AND a family ride to build a coaster are probably smoking something they shouldn't. KD has lots of nice coasters. They have an average collection of kiddie rides and family rides, and almost no thrilling flat rides. Not only would it be a poor business decision to take out 3 rides to replace 1, but it would be bad to take out 3 rides from different parts of the spectrum to replace with 1 ride that fits the category they already are pretty solid in. I know to a lot of enthusiasts a "dream park" is nothing but coasters, but not to the GP. Of course, they don't need to take out the car ride to put a coaster there. Look at how awesome the Phoenix interacts with the antique cars! I think smart money says flat rides, and possible chance of a smaller size coaster. I would be shocked to see anything other than Shockwave coming out of the park this year, unless they place to relocate it elsewhere within the park (which I highly doubt for Blue Ridge Tollway). I've ridden Banshee. It is just as intense as the old school inverts, except smoother. And it's pretty much guaranteed that KD is getting some type of good coaster in the near future. At least the Flying Ace could be taken out with the already three swing rides the park has.
  19. Cedar Point, SFGA, Dorney Park, SFDK, Kings Island, La Ronde, SFNE all have more than one invert. Also, Volcano is about the launch and then the rest of the ride is pretty tame. B&M Inverts are all about intensity for the whole ride. Finally, you can fit a great invert in a small amount of space.
  20. You know now that I think of it, an invert would be the best option if a small amount of land is available. You can fit a good amount of track in a compact space, not to mention it would feel very intense. Just look at Great Bear, Afterburn, or Talon. Here's a sample of the specs: 120 ft tall 60 MPH 4 inversions (loop, dive loop, zero g-roll, inline twist) 2,800-3,000 feet of track
  21. They could (and probably will) take out Flying Ace and BR Tollway for a large new coaster. The plaza, station, and lift/launch could be in Shockwaves's spot while the rest of the coaster is in the rest of the space. y'all really are dreaming. this park has I305, Volcano, Flight of Fear, and Dominator. . and you think they will put in ANOTHER "big" coaster? if anything, the park is missing a "big" woodie, and that won't happen until Hurler/Grizzly go, and get a large one in that spot. I could very well be mistaken, and we shall see -- I'm just guessing just like everyone else -- but what's coming are a couple of flats (or possibly a re-positioning of the Mouse, with something big going in the old mouse spot). certainly not another "big" coaster tho. edit: sorry I'm cranky. . I've had a tough day at work. Y'all go ahead and keep thinking of stuff, it's all in fun anyways. I didn't mean hyper sized but of course they're going to get a Gatekeeper/Banshee sized coaster in the near future like the other major Cedar Fair parks. I'm guessing around 65-68 MPH and 4,000-4,200 feet long.
