Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

There's a really cool ride that my friend and I built in NL2. It's a launched wing coaster but it not only deuls (2 sides) but it loops around like Twisted Colossus. It has two launches to 70 mph and has 7 inversions (Batwing, Zero G-Roll, Loop on one side), (Immelmann, Corkscrew, barrel roll on the other). It is around 2,500 feet on each side for a total of roughly 5,000 feet of track. -

Anything's better than a Vekoma though. -

That's because Vortex isn't that rough and is properly maintained unlike Anaconda. -

I really do not understand how he can please you the idea of having a giga and and mega coastert in the same park! There are so many companies and so many types of coaster, I do not believe that guests want a clone of what they have already in the park. cedar fair can throw the money as he wants, but at least assume a person who chooses the new attractions with criterion Nope. An Intamin giga is completely different than a B&M Hyper. -

I've also been hearing things about Kings Dominion being more family oriented now. That could hint at a hyper coaster because B&M Hypers are actually pretty family friendly, especially compared to an Intamin giga coaster. It would be called either Centurion or Fury, and would be around 230 ft tall, 77 MPH, and 5,500 feet. -

Probably. But I think it's all but confirmed that Kings Dominion's next coaster will be a hyper, no matter when it comes. I disagree wholeheartedly. In fact I think there has been not one clue about Kings Dominion's next coaster. And the garbage about the background on their site has been shot down repeatedly. Well Pat Jones and Cedar Fair have pretty much dismissed an invert, wing coaster, and woodie. I could possibly see another launch coaster coming, but I think that a Hyper is the most likely, unless Iron Hurler becomes a possibility. -

How would a B&M hyper next to I305 look if Anaconda is removed? -

Or if they absolutely have to keep it, at least give it new trains. Could Vekoma's new trains fit on it? -

I'd rather be pinned down than my head being banged around. -

Really? I've never found it to be incredibly rough like Anaconda or Hurler. IMO one of those two should go next year. My comment can be applied to those two rides, as well. My biggest hope is that Anaconda is removed and some sort of B&M goes over the water as well as behind I305. -

I agree. It's by far the worst ride at the park. -

Why this is a title one would consider worth advertising is beyond me. "The worst stand-up you'll ride (once)! Ride soon before the wheel assemblies collapse since we've run out of parts!" The reason I don't see them tearing down Shockwave is because otherwise they wouldn't have a tame looper. Shockwave was the first inverting roller coaster I've been on. And before you say Anaconda, most would rather be pinned down for 30 seconds then get headbang for 2 minutes. Also it's in very good shape (considering this is a TOGO). I find that I305 is down a lot yet Shockwave is always open. For some reason KD takes good care of this coaster. I think Shockwave will be retired in about 7-8 years, but for right now, Cedar Fair wants to milk out the title of oldest standup. IMO Hurler is next on the chopping block. -

And let's please stop with the Shockwave being torn down predictions. They aren't going to lose the title of oldest remaining standup coaster. -

This. Intimidator 305 is mostly a 1 or 2 times a day type of ride for the GP if they're brave enough to ride it. I live 3 hours from KD and 3 hours from Carowinds and all everyone ever talks about is 'the coaster at Kings Dominion that makes you lose your vision and is super fast'. It's an experience like many of the park goers have never experienced before and often one that some people think is too much to handle. If there ever was a real life Roller Coaster Tycoon coaster that makes park goers say "Roller Coaster 1 is too intense for me" it would be Intimidator 305. On the other hand, I've been thinking about how well a thrilling family coaster could do at the park. Think something along the lines of Pandemonium at the Six Flags parks. Not only are they thrilling, but they are a hit with families. Ricochet always has one of the longest lines besides the main 'big boy coasters' in the park. I personally would love a Pandemonium-like ride where Shockwave currently sits. Not saying I could see this happening, but I would like it to - just a thought worth sharing. I'd much rather have a B&M family invert than a Pandemonium clone. Now if it was like Cobra's Curse then it would be cool. -

1. Cedar Fair no longer works with Intamin. 2. RMC only makes crappy wooden coasters go extinct, not to mention they build wooden coasters themselves. -

Canada's Wonderland and Carowinds say hello. Yes, but they built rides that were bigger than what they already had, which was the whole point of building them. I don't see why KD would install a B&M Hyper and say "come ride our new ride, it is similar to I305, only smaller". I could see them making it the first-ever inverted hypercoaster or winged hypercoaster. That would actually have a marketing point. -

Yeah I heard that one...but did you hear the one about B&M refusing to go over the 230ft mark on ANY coaster ever... Ahh, 2009. Back when we thought B&Ms were short and forceless. -

I still would rather Kings Dominion get a unique RMC hybrid, but a hyper would fit in great as long as it differs from Apollos Chariot down south. -

If Hurler closes (which it probably will, even before Shockwave), I want some sort of RMC to go in its place. -

But don't you think eventually something needs to be done to Hurler? I know i was wishfully thinking....Fury 325 should suffice us for now... At Carowinds, Hurler will either be taken down for a better woodie or get a completely different RMC treatment but around 2020-2021. I think Kings Dominion would completely re name the ride rather than use Iron Hurler. -

So here's a compiled list of candidates for our next coaster: -B&M Hyper (Likely) -B&M Wingrider (Likely) -B&M Invert (Possibly) -RMC Hybrid (Possibly) -GCI Woodie (Possibly) -B&M Flyer (Unlikely) -Maverick style launch coaster (Very Unlikely) -

I posted this same Idea a few months ago, although not with the racing. This would totally complete the park's coaster lineup, the perfect attraction on that end of the park perfectly complimenting windseeker. The XLC area could be the new entrance and queue. They could use topper if they wanted a wooden angle. It would be pretty marketable too, as the longest wooden on the east coast, or most inversions, or anything. Other than that, a Batman SFFT or YOLOcoaster type "gimmick" ride would do well there, very marketable. The worlds largest loop around a park entrance would be captivating, especially next to Dominator's giant loop. Surely we'll get a family friendly beemer though, a wingrider seems like the surest bet. The ride could be called "Fury". It would start with the Grizzly part with a blue track and be about the banked turns. Then it could go through the Hurler part and switch to a purple track and be about inversions and airtime, then a grand finale returning to the Grizzly station. The whole thing would be a good 6,000 feet long or so. Oh and it would have two lift hills and four inversions. While I am drooling over this idea, you guys are smoking something if you think this would ever happen. Iron Hurler itself or combining the two? -
