I've heard someone say that Kong at SFDK is the exact same ride and that California's Great America ripped off Discovery Kingdom -

What height limit? Star tower and Drop tower are both over 200 feet tall. You're thinking about Six Flags Discovery Kingdom with that height limit -
Exactly. The layout as it stands would need to be seriously altered by RMC to make it thrilling. It did gain some rough spots over the years, mostly at the bases of its drops, which have been re-tracked and smoothed out. If they're going to put in a new coaster, they could really use the land Grizzly sits on but I dont see that happening at all. I think that's really what kills it. It's just a ho hum layout. Some drops, some turns, some boring long runs..... yawn. Which is exactly why it's a hit with families with littles. Sure, it has the same height requirement as Gold Striker, but mom's and dad's can take their timid kids on Grizzly and work them up to something like GS. They are at two opposite ends of the spectrum, and Grizzly isn't going anywhere.

Trip Report Time!! It was my first time at the park, so I got there at opening time. I rode Roar first since it had no wait. I was going to ride again, but the line just kept getting longer. Roar is a good GCI, but definitly Next, I went over to Superman Ultimate Flight. The line was short, but somebody got their nosebleed on a lapbar, and they had to call in somebody to clean it up. Once I got on the ride, it was great. The forces were more intense than I thought they would be in the non inverting loop. I decided to see the Dolphin Show after that, and it was fine. I sat in the splash zone to get wet, but didn't even feel a drop of water. Next, it was time for boomerang. The line was okay, not too long but not short. The ride was okay, nothing to rave about. Medusa was next, and it was great. The way the inversions go into each other is fantastic. Now I will get to the bad part of my day. Kong was only running one train, so the wait was far over an hour, and in the blistering sun. And the sad part was is that it sucked. It banged my head the whole way and wasn't very forceful. I was just feeling out of it after that, so I hit up Skyscreamer and Superman again (Queue also over an hour). All in all, the park was great. Medusa and Superman are better than anything at Great America, but that's all it has over it in the ride section. The animals are pretty cool though.

Saturdays are pretty busy. If Superman is a priority, head for that right at park opening. You can usually get 2 or 3 laps before the line even starts to develop. If Medusa is a priority and you have a gold pass, you can get into Oasis Plaza a few minutes earlier than the GP, though they don't open the coaster until park open, you can get in line early and get on the first train. Otherwise you can come back to Medusa last as most people go here first and the line dies in the afternoon. If V2 is a priority, don't "wait until later", ride it when you get a chance. It's crazy sensitive and goes down frequently. I doubt you'll wait more than an hour at peak time for Superman or Medusa unless there's a special event going on. Thanks. How is Kong for a Vekoma SLC
