  1. I just thought that it was a bit funny that they named it 'clean vortex' rather than just leaving 'clean' out of it... Not something I would do for naming a file for a web page. Also, (yet another critique) it isn't very mobile friendly, navigation-wise due to the whole rollover they could have probably completely without. I think I'm now done picking at the site layout now
  2. Another thing I found interesting about the URL for Madame Marie's Massacre Manor (Otherwise just known as MMMM or M^4)... While all the other haunt mazes all have their names in the URL, MMMM is known as "Test Ride." Which leads me wonder if maybe they're testing the waters with this? Who knows. Here's what I'm talking about: http://www.cagreatamerica.com/haunt2012/ride/Test-Ride Compared to even this: http://www.cagreatamerica.com/haunt2012/ride/Club-Blood-ReVampd http://www.cagreatamerica.com/haunt2012/ride/toy-factory Then again, probably the same web developer (or developers) that did the Haunt page also would name an image of Vortex with the Paramount logo photoshopped out of it as "ga_cleanvortex_sld.jpg" Yea, I'm just nitpicking at the things that most other people would not see.
  3. So the new maze...Madame Marie's Massacre Manor! I'm curious as to how this maze will be. Also, I'm curious to see how that glow party thing's going to pan out...Seems like they're extending what was going on in the Sports Bar as I recall seeing a bunch of party lights inside that building, like a mini rave. The site itself feels a tad...generic compared to the past Haunt sites, and the roll-over is a tad annoying...just giving my critique
  4. So sad...Speedway's (Jr sized Whip ride themed to Nascars) gone for the time being (Perhaps it will come back somewhere else?). We spontaneously rode both Speedway and Starfish (Tsunami Jr) after bidding Farewell to Hurricane and surprisingly, they were pretty forceful kiddie rides! The only kiddie ride I did not do up there was the helicopters (which at the age of 5 was hard to get in and out of).
  5. From what I saw, map layout was exposed on an open doorway, the maze itself looks pretty much the same, including the squishy black hot stuffy moment of death. Maybe there will be some new props inside to freshen it up.
  6. At CGA, 4 of us had TPR shirts on. Some kids walk by in excitement: "ooh! Are you guys with Theme Park Reviews?" Thinking to myself: "No, I just randomly found the shirt at a garage sale.and do you see an S in Theme Park Review?" Apparently they lurk the site but aren't members.
  7. For some reason, I had this song stuck in my head earlier: I was real tempted to use it on my Au13/Gold Striker No Limits video but opted to use The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly instead.
  8. ^That looks insanely fun! Closest we have around here (which is a very good ride and what I was referring to as my favorite Huss ride) is this thing: Everyone who's gone to Santa Cruz I'm sure has ridden it. I displaced the weight so much that towards the end of the cycle I got myself into this endless spin so when the ride had stopped, I was able to keep it spinning at a fast rate for several second after the ride cycle (until the brakes kicked in). Probably my most insane moment on these rides! Though not as intense but still proven to be a fun ride, I'm happy that my home park CGA also has an identical ride sans the cool lighting effects...if only it ran a tad faster (it does have variable speed which can make interesting rides if you displace your weight just right).
  9. Now that I feel like I can talk about it (Didn't want to post about it before you guys officially announce it). I've really been enjoying it, great for when waiting in painfully slow lines at the amusement park. Actually, I had a group of us huddled around my iPhone trying to pick the correct answers, fun stuff! Excellent replay value, now to see if I can top my score! When I get all 250 photo questions down, I'll treat myself to the additional question pack...I don't mind showing some love for this app!
  10. Very 'punny' (insert cricket chirps here) I must say. This will be CB's 3rd iteration, the Woodstock Express of haunt mazes. Also, non haunt-related, ever wanted to re-listen to the park's show reminders/announcements? Haunt themes are also on there since they aren't up for grabs on the CGA site since the facelift happened.
  11. That's just crazy. SFDK really doesn't need the bad press and I can see stricter fencing requirements fall into play.
  12. Break dancer/Rodeo... Especially indoor ones set to lights and techno surf tunes!
  13. S'more Etch-a-Sketch fun, a little tribute to SCBB's Hurricane coaster: And my reference, one of the photos I shot a week ago:
  14. ^It was called Whirlwind *begins thinking of my Whirlwind pinball machine *. I could be wrong but I think back when Whirlwind opened, SCBB allowed double back-to-back rides...I thought I heard something about that anyway. Also, welcome to TPR! I also remember the old Chance Wipeout (also named Wipeout) where Fireball resides now. That ride made me feel so sick afterwards but it was so fun! I also remember Chaos when that took over. About Undertow...Honestly, I like the name Undertow. It is very fitting with the Boardwalk! They already have a Riptide so that name would be useless (which is their tilt-a-whirl). I think they also had a Scrambler called Bermuda Triangle that sat where Cliffhanger is now. As far as a random non-fitting name, who remembers Video Storm (where Tsunami is now)? Since I seem to be discussing past Boardwalk attractions, does anyone ever remember any bumper cars that sat over by Giant Dipper? I think it may have been called Auto Scooters or something like that. I only remember because of also seeing Speed Bumps, having hopes that I would have been atleast tall enough to drive one of their bumper car attractions back then...only one I could do were the kiddy bumper cars at CGA. I believe it was also the same bumper cars where my cousin got knocked into circles and could not control her car! As soon as an attendant helped her, she went right back into going in circles
  15. ^Cool, thanks for sharing! I wish I had taken more photos but I was feeling a bit lazy that day...lazy to the point that I was too lazy to fend off line jumpers...Was definitely a fun day! I'm definitely hoping my next visit will not be as crowded, as much as I'm getting used to the crowds (I guess you can say that this is weening me into heavier crowd days once Gold Striker opens). I'm shooting for a Saturday the 15th as there's a festival event on the 16th, sure to bring back the crowds. Also...now that Haunt is around the corner, I remember several people mentioning about wanting to do a huge meet up at CGA for Haunt. I was kind of thinking Sat Sept 29th since that's opening weekend. I (like many others I'm sure) can't do Sundays due to having work the following day and I tend to do regular CGA visit during the day to do the rides, followed by Boofet (park's buffet promo that gets you into Haunt a bit early) and focus on mazes and a couple night rides after. It would be cool to get the group to meet up during the day, do boofet together and go onto the mazes! So yea, something to think about while we have time!
  16. Sounds like you guys had fun, especially the butterfly porn Last time I was there I could swear it looked like a couple dolphins were trying to mate or do something that looked like it over in those tanks by the picnic area. I was hoping to make it out there this Sunday but looks like I won't be able to make it.
  17. I could have and probably should have, being the coaster enthusiast. I'm honestly surprised the ride operator didn't physically come out of his booth afterwards to get after the kid...better yet, I'm surprised this kid was not even with his parents. Honestly, this kid was far too young to be wandering around with a 12-year-old kid, I feel that a 'responsible' parent/guardian/chaperone should be at least 18 or older.
  18. While I was thinking we were doing good yesterday as far as not seeing any GP antics, sure enough one happens on a ride I'm actually on. We were just finishing up on the Bayern Kurve (Berserker) when the ride op said to remain seated as we need to back around (it overshot/wouldn't line up or something) as this kid was not refastening his belt, sitting sideways, and finally when he sat straight and what looked like he was going to sit still we were getting ready to go do the 1 last loop so we can get off...sure enough, just seconds before getting ready to do the last revolution, he proceeds to stand up. Good thing for the ride op's quick reflexes and not getting 'button happy' as this kid would have probably smacked into the barn structure. And after we get off, he meets up with what is maybe an older (still young) sibling and hop the fence rather than exit properly, walking in the grassy space between Berserker and Demon...then they hop the next rails to get on Demon. Honestly, I was getting ready to shout across to tell him to sit down and put his seatbelt on (in probably not as nice words). I was doing hand motions of fastening seatbelts as there seemed to be some form of spoken communication barrier.
  19. It's been a while and while this isn't the best work of art by any means, this was pretty fun doing this. I had just uncovered my old Etch a Sketch and what better thing to spend a hot monday afternoon than sketch out Santa Cruz Boardwalk and Dipper? I also did the CGA Gold Striker logo
  20. 880 sucks when it comes to traffic anyway. On the CGA media day, we were on the road at around 9:00am and because of it being commute time, traffic was really slow, going about 30mph or less at some spots. When we got onto 237 from 880, we got on via the carpool lane while 237 was pretty much what you can call a parking lot, we zipped right past everyone and were able to get over once we got to GA Pkwy. The ride later in the afternoon was not too bad when hopping onto 17, and 17 was dead when we came back home, however after close to 10 we grabbed dinner at McDonald's and didn't leave there until 10:30...got home around 11:30 back in Hayward.
  21. Looks like SCBB was pretty brutal in terms of crowds, not to mention what is normally a 40 minute drive (It takes me 30 to get to CGA, probably another 30 -40 to get over that mountain) to get to SCBB. At least you got to say your farewells to one of your 'stand out' coasters. I can't wait for the crowds to die down some at CGA especially since we're in 'back to school' mode. A good chunk of my summer visits at CGA consisted of some form of special festival/event going on. Since I tend to go every other weekend, I think I'm going to shoot for a Saturday since Sunday the 16th is...another festival and crowds! I've done SCBB on Labor Day Weekend back in '09 (was a week shy of getting my final rides on the old Haunted Castle) and remember the main 'walk being crowded like that. Getting on rides was not a problem though, probably did not wait any more than 10-15 minutes since they are amazingly fast at dispatches...made me kind of bummed when I was back at CGA yesterday, especially riding Grizzly where it took 2-3 minutes from parking in station to leaving. I guess part of what helps is that SCBB makes/allows you to take your backpack on, just setting it by your feet on the floor of the train, and that there are 5 or 6 attendants alone doing lapbars (they pull them down for you and check simultaneously)....leading to 30 second unload-dispatch cycles.
  22. Well, I'm back up with another update! I'll keep it short and sweet as I already had my TR typed up (and was adding photos) until I accidentally closed out my browser along with trying to close out a non-responding Photoshop...so here I am again, trying to type this up First off, my neighbor has joined our group, buying a 2013 pass yesterday. She used to work at GA back in the 80s as well, and had not been to the park in a while. There was about 6 of us yesterday being my cousin, Rolercstrluvr, Robman, JeffyJosephNorcal, my neighbor (need to get her onto TPR now), and myself. Yesterday was quite busy and was a 'concentrate on the waterpark' day for atleast a few hours, ending our final 'hoorah' on Didgeridoo Falls, the family raft slide. We were whipped about and at the end, hit the wall before coming into the splash pool, causing some heads knocking into each other. Another highlight was the $1 hotdog passholder promo they were doing where you could buy hot dogs for $1 each and get unlimited potato chips and unlimited soft drinks (yay, Vault still on tap in the picnic area!). Lunch consisted of some very interesting conversations which I probably should not discuss on here Those who were in our group yesterday know exactly what I'm talking about! Pretty much with how busy it was, we only did each ride about once (where I'm normally riding Flight Deck and the other coasters at least twice or 3 times each. Last few highlights: -First night ride on Woodstock's Express -E-stop on Flying Eagles followed by the ride restarting (perhaps we were flying too rough or the ride op wasn't quite sure what was going on as 5 of the buckets were bouncing about)...also saw Rolercstrluvr manage to turn a full 180, facing me! Random notes: -Seems to be a new spiel: "Do not pull out ANY electronics during the ride" (heard across several rides, first found out when I had my phone in a drypak/waterproof bag hanging on my neck when on the Rapids when I hear "Put your electronics away!" ) -Line management/control diminishes completely once evening hits, leading to fast lane queue abuse (as I expected early in the season) and disorganized/overcrowded stations. Here's some photos including some more construction on Goldy! Yay we're here! Some wood work going on in that lot. Midway turn getting some cement. Progress! (Donut slab now has vert construction, trenches are growing) A common thing to see throughout the park. In line for Flight Deck! Sadly, this was the only time I rode it today... Smurf House! I felt like I was 5 again when I climbed inside this thing Just being random Hmm, this looks new! I'm liking it! Dragonfly and Drop Tower A 'straight in line with the FD lift' shot Some more Goldy! (I'm liking the banner even more!) True haunt fans are camping out in front out of the Toy Factory maze entrance, 26 more days to go! Longest curly fry ever! "Hmmm...nope! My fry's not as long!" Post park closing fun! Hmm....this isn't quite right! Good Night CGA and soon to be Gold Striker!
  23. That is quite different than what we saw on Wednesday! Was Dipper running both trains or just the red one? I did my final ride on Hurt-i-cane in the back seat as much as I was going to do the front...I figure I may as well just go all out with the forces!
  24. ^You were there? It was pretty busy today and I eventually did most of the coasters. We did a lot of Boomerang Bay and did a final rapids ride for the season. I will post my full mini update tomorrow.
  25. ^There are a few. In case you missed the past few pages, this particular coaster will be a Maurer Sohne SC2000. You can check out Waldameer Park's Steel Dragon as one of the examples. Also, taken from Maurer Sohne's site:
