  1. I would go directly to Wild Surf and ride it a few times right at opening. It's definitely the most popular slide in the park and gets a pretty long line later in the day. It's a great slide and the drop in is crazy, much more intense than a Proslide Tornado. I would suggest getting four people in the raft as it's better with more weight.
  2. It looks like anyone can use the tickets purchased through the Boy Scout site. There is a Q&A at the bottom and somebody asks this very question. I copied the response below: Hi Nicole, You do not have to be a Scout to use the discount. Thank you for the support and enjoy the park. Duane
  3. Won't open until September. An inspection found that the lift was not up to code so they're doing a whole refurb. Well that's a real bummer. I'm headed to the park in a couple of weeks and I was hoping it would be open by then. It's still one of my favorite rides at SFMM.
  4. It's great to see them testing with actual human riders on it. This makes me think that they are very close to opening it. Cannibal is definitely one of the most unique and exciting coasters to open this year.
  5. Definitely enough time I agree that should be enough time to get all the major credits. I just got back from 3 days at Hershey and will post a mini-TR when I get some downtime. But I did take advantage of the preview option this past Monday night and from 8:45-10pm I rode 4x on Skyrush, 3x on Storm Runner, and 4x on Fahrenheit. They were all walk-ons at that time and a few times I was able to re-ride without getting off.
  6. I feel exactly the same way, RMC is just not going to put out a crap ride. They have probably the best reputation in the coaster business right now and they aren't going to do anything to harm that. If they have accepted the Roar job, then I'm sure they have a plan to make it a killer coaster. I've also ridden TC and it's nothing short of amazing. An RMC makeover of Roar will truly give SFDK a signature ride and make it a must visit for both coaster enthusiasts and the general public.
  7. Great to hear, I'm heading to the park in two weeks and now it looks like it will be open by then!
  8. Totally agree with you on Viper, I still enjoy it and would love to see it get a makeover. I have a lot of memories riding Viper as it was the "premier" coaster at the park for my teenage years (at least until Batman came along in 94). I love the combination of elements and inversions on the ride and would hate to see it destroyed, especially since its sister coasters Shockwave and Scream Machine have bit the dust.
  9. Yes, I find it very odd that they still haven't released an opening date for this ride, especially since they've been testing it for months now. The park's silence is just fueling all the crazy rumors and speculation. Do they not have a PR department?
  10. Totally agree with you, I would love to see the Justice League ride at SFMM. The park has opened new coasters each of the last three years, but it really lacks a quality dark ride. The new Justice League ride looks incredible and would be a great non-coaster option for the park, especially during the hot summers.
  11. I agree with your comments amount American Thunder. My kids and I rode it last summer and absolutely loved it. The airtime was great and it was pretty smooth for a woodie. We went to SFSTL on a weekday in June and the park wasn't very busy, so we rode AT five or six times in a row right when the park opened with no wait. We rode the Boss later in the day and although it was faster and had bigger drops, it was much rougher and not nearly as much fun. In fact, as soon as we got off the Boss, we headed back to AT for a few more rides. Now I know the Boss is like 8 years older than AT, but the ride experience is so much worse. Hopefully SFSTL continues to maintain AT because I'd hate to see such a great coaster go downhill (like what's happened with the Boss).
  12. Agree on GR, the layout is still amazing and topper track + new trains would make it a top woodie once again. There's no need to do the full iron horse treatment, especially since SFMM just did it with Twisted Colossus. Topper track would keep the old school woodie feel, but it would run like new for years to come. However, Mean Streak should definitely go the with full iron horse treatment and it would give CP another marquee attraction.
  13. I would check it out for sure, it looks pretty fun for a fair coaster. Most fairs have unlimited ride wristbands, so I would buy one and then get as many rides on the coasters as I could.
  14. I believe SWSD has a 30 foot height restriction that they had to get special permission to exceed with Skytower and Atlantis. Hence, Manta. As a kid I always wanted them to build something like Steel Eel. I wonder how set in stone the height restrictions are? I say this because I remember reading an article a few months about a proposed 400 foot tall observation wheel for the San Diego waterfront. If the city is willing to let somebody build a 400 foot tall attraction, you would think they'd be ok with a 200 foot tall coaster. But then again, this is California we're talking about and most things there don't make any sense.
  15. Mako looks like an awesome addition to the park and gives it a nice B&M trio with Manta and Kraken. SWO will now have three of the best coasters in Orlando and just became a must visit on my next trip to Florida. I only hope that SWSD gets something like Mako in the near future. There's still not a B&M hyper in Cali and I would love to see SWSD get the first one!
  16. The new slide tower looks like a great addition to the waterpark and I like how it's still included with KD admission. I've been on a few of those trapdoor slides at Noah's Ark and SFMM and they are by far my favorite water slides. The anticipation that builds while waiting for the bottom to open is just incredible. The only drawback is that the trapdoor slides are single rider and tend to have long lines, but having three slides should help out a lot with capacity. I also like how there are both body and tube slides on this tower and that each slide offers a unique experience. I really hope we see more of these towers installed at CF parks, I know that Knott's Soak City could really use one. (The last waterpark addition at Knott's was the Proslide Tornado back in 2006.) This addition really makes KD a two day park and I think gives it an advantage over Water Country since there's no separate admission charge.
  17. That timing sounds about right, Colossus stopped operating in August and the full iron horse makeover was ready for Memorial Day. If GR goes down for a topper track rehab in September, then it would probably be ready for spring break or Memorial Day at the latest. I would imagine that topper track rehab would take less time than a full iron horse makeover. And yes, please get rid of that damn trim brake!
  18. yeah, i was there both days, wearing the same thing. rushed home washed my clothes and wore them again. lol when you watch stuff, just remember blue train monday, purple tuesday. John, I think I sat by you for a few rides on Tuesday. I remember you posting about the shirt and having to wash it to wear again the next day. I was in the red polo shirt passing out the sunscreen. It looks the POV video mixes the shots from a bunch of different runs on Mon-Wed. I was able to spot myself a few times but I was sitting next to different people (I was almost always in the orange train). Most of the shots I'm in are in the first 30 seconds and then from the 4:10 mark to the end. It was so fun to be able to ride over and over, it's too bad they almost ruined the shoot by using the models who clearly didn't want to be there. I wonder if any of our footage will make it into the official TC commercial?
  19. SFMM management told us at the media shoot that their #1 priority with this ride will be capacity. They will attempt to get the trains to duel as much as possible, but getting as many riders through as quickly as they can is their primary concern. Management knows that dueling really adds to the TC experience, but they also know that people hate waiting in long lines. The lifts are "smart" lifts and can climb at variable speeds, but varying the lift speeds can only do so much. I am really interested to see how often the trains duel once the ride is open and constantly running 3 trains.
  20. I have to agree with these comments, the ride is incredible without the dueling but the dueling pushes it to a whole other level. I was lucky enough to attend the shoot on Tuesday and get to ride TC 19 times, including the 7 in a row marathon. And after 19 rides, I would've ridden it 19 more times if they would've let me--the ride is just that good! I've never been on an RMC before and TC blew all of my expectations out of the water. The airtime is constant and amazing, you are out of your seat as much as you are in it. The ride is very smooth and feels a lot faster than the stated 57 MPH. My favorite element though has got to be the Top Gun stall, it's something I've never experienced on a coaster and it's almost a weightless feeling as you are going through it. The Top Gun is even better when there's another train below you, it's hard to explain the feeling of being completely upside down and seeing another train below you. The zero-g roll is also amazing when dueling, if SFMM can get the timing down this ride will blow people's minds. But even if it doesn't duel, TC has so much airtime and unique elements that I expect it to be a major hit with the GP. Kudos to SFMM for providing us enthusiasts with the opportunity to be a part of the media shoot and getting to ride this amazing coaster before the GP. It was a long day with several long waits between rides, but none of that mattered when you were on the ride. The "actors" seemed almost annoyed to be there, but the enthusiasm from the TPR members and other coaster fans never wavered. It was great to meet other posters and get to talk coasters with you. All in all, it was an incredible day and I feel very lucky to have been a part of it.
  21. I agree that the projectors should be a non-issue. I've read about 10 articles/reviews about the Iron Reef opening and not one of them mentioned seeing the projectors. I think the GP will be so immersed in the screens that they won't pay any attention to them. As for the capacity concerns, most dark rides have capacity issues. Every time I go to DCA, Midway Mania has a 60-90 wait time, but it's a fun ride and people are willing to wait for it. All of the reviews I've read have had nothing but praise for Iron Reef, so it sounds like Knott's has a real hit on their hands. I think we can expect similar rides to start showing up at other CF parks in the near future.
  22. I totally agree that Knott's needs a new thrill seeker coaster as the last thrill ride addition was Silver Bullet and that was over 10 years ago. (Windseeker doesn't count since it's no longer there.) However, a RMC rehab of GhostRider seems like a more pressing issue. Like other posters have said, it doesn't need a complete redo like TC, but topper track and new trains would make the ride seem just like new. Heck, it would probably even ride better than when it was brand new. In his opening remarks yesterday, Raffi hinted that next year's focus would be Ghost Town to coincide with its 75th anniversary. So that gives me hope that the GR RMC rehab will be a go next year.
  23. I just got my confirmation for the Tuesday shoot, can't wait to ride this bad boy!
  24. I just checked Lagoon's website for a Cannibal opening date and I found this update: "Due to ongoing testing and commissioning, the opening of Cannibal has been postponed to a later date. Stay tuned for another announcement." Haven't they been testing this ride for like a month now? I can't imagine what the delay is, but you would think they'd have it open by Memorial Day weekend. Twisted Colossus just started testing like a week ago and it's going to open Memorial Day weekend, so I wonder what's going on with Cannibal.
