The Control Panel Enthusiast Thread
Kemotblue replied to Montu Maniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was suggested to drop in a update on Wildcat at Frontier City. The park has replaced the coasters control panel. I happened to notice it while waiting to board the ride. Other parts of the park other rides have had upgrades to their control panels. Some are brand new. This weekend I'll try and get photos to post on here for you. Here is Wildcat's new Control Panel thanks to Six Flags. Showing they care about the rides at Frontier City. -
Fans of the park I live in Oklahoma City as you know Frontier City like Darien was one of the newly acquired parks. Let's just say you are in for a real awesome treat. What Six Flags did to Frontier City in the Off season I was extremely impressed. Every single square inch of that park was touched from Ride system upgrades, Signage, Theme-ing, park wide sound system upgrades layout changes to give the park better traffic flow. They moved things around the new Kids area what they did there is First Class good quality work. Not cheap on the fly patch it up. They have put a lot of work into the park and I am thoroughly impressed what Six Flags done to the park. I had my doubts how it was treated last time it was a Six Flags park. The park this time around has been treated it's best in years. So I say you fans of Darien Lake you better be ready the park most likely changed and in a good way during the off season. those few signs Darien lake posted on social media is just the very very tiny tip of the iceberg. You should check out some of my recent trip reports of Frontier City on the Frontier City Thread to see all the changes Six Flags did to that park. Give you an idea what to expect from the Six Flags. https://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=75952&p=1903827&hilit=Frontier+City#p1903827

I notice a lot of the rides in the park received new operator control panels. When I say every square inch of the park was invested in this off season. It shows everywhere in the park. Six Flags and EPR are doing great things with their newly added parks. -

I asked about why they still have Pepsi they are in contract with them. The manager I spoke with didn’t know the specifics on the contract. The park had to honor that contract. I expect them once the contract is over with Pepsi they will eventually change to Coke products. -

The Paintball game was added in a different area during Fright Fest and HITP it was so popular the park made a new permenant home in Game Junction. It replaced the ladder climb game. This is a new interactive theme element. Uncle Bart he shares his Restroom issues. There is a lot of flatulence and funny sayings from Uncle Bart. The Outhouse sits along Renegade Rapids Road in front of the Crack Axle Canyon Train Station. The canoe rental theme area of Renegade Rapids Exit Renegade Rapids new theme exit area with Music The Music was not playing on opening day because the ride was closed. They normally open it up the at the end of the month when they normally open up Wild West Water Works. Renegade Rapids new Exit Best Of the West Cafe new "Six Flags' style Layout The Snack Booth added in Best of the West Cafe A new green sign with a rather funny saying in Brain Drain's queue area Silver Bulets New "Go Fast Pass" skip the line entry. Tornado was refurbished with a new paint job. The newest I seen this ride. Log Ride had some Theme Scenes add to it's first turn in the back ground. That Water wheel looks like it had work done on it that it may actually turn with a new Canal built entering the bottom of the drop to the log ride. The new exit for Renegade Rapids which looks like the ride got a new Exit control box. The new Exit for Renegade Rapids. Silver Bullet entry has been moved to the left side closer to Steel Lasso. -

photos of the popular Shake Rattle and Roll shows that is on the Ft. Frontier Stage one of the Reserved seating signs there is a park employee who checks for a Diamond/ Diamond Elite membership card. The main new show this year is Hot Rod Country. It's a jukebox mix of different country music styles. The new priority seating for Diamond and Diamond Elite member rules. one of the new magic tricks in the Two Johns Saloon Magic Show. This show is very interactive with the audience and if you want to embarrass a family member I recommend catching one of these magic shows in the Two Johns Saloon. The following pictures is some random photos of the shows. Also photos showing the Diamond/Diamond Elite Reserved seating rules. -

Here is photos of Timbertown Construction I will have more hopefully next week the weather this Saturday is supposed to be cold and rainy day. Which most likely the park will close for the day. The Rio Grand is re-themed to "Bucky's Whistle Stop Depot" This looks like this will be a booth to pick up photos. I'm assuming for the new Kids coaster Frankie's Mine train. The new Rocky's Ranger Planes l which replaced the Dragon Ride. Same type of ride just a new theme. The is ride used to be the Tom's Tom's but now is rethemed to Bubba's Honey Swings. Now the Owl Tree House which you see in the background has been rebuilt. It was a toddler play structure but now it's an all age play structure. El Ranchero I'm not sure what this will be the Barn doors have been permanently shut off with a new smaller door. I'm thinking maybe some type of snack stand or gift sales window. -

Membership Entry note: They still need to put up the signage Membership Entry past security membership season pass sales and processing new area in the gift shop. It was moved from Guest Relations that was housed next to Quick Draw. A new Six Flags shirt that I I like because of the actual park Rides silhouetted on the graphics. Membership services and "Go Fast Pass" sales. The new Skip the line program already used at Six Flags parks that are not branded as a Six Flags park. Season Pass/ Ticket holder security entrance I finally got the time to get my Frontier City pictures uploaded from opening weekend. I been busy keeping up with OKC Thunder on how and where they land in the playoffs. Can't wait for Sunday Getting Portland is a great match up for Thunder. Now back to Frontier City opening weekend. As you already know Six Flags took over the management of the park the middle of last season. That season ended on January 6th of this year with an amazing Holiday in the Park. The park has been closed exactly 3 months in that time the changes and money spent in the park in their off-season was mind boggling. I never seen a company dump so much money into a park in a off-season. I have been impressed with what was done to every square inch of the park. The most noticeable changes was the entry it is more secured with metal Detectors added and laid out like the larger Six Flag Parks. As you know Six Flags started a season pass Membership program with different levels that offer you more bang for your buck. Depending on how often you visit the park. They have a membership level that fits your needs or wants. This can be used at any Six Flags Parks. I normally visit Over Texas 4 times in a year and Fiesta Texas atleast once a year. Since Frontier City will be my home park. I opted into the highest level membership. Diamond Elite which pretty much the company rolls out the red carpet for you. There is a seperate entrance for all levels of membership. That entry is adjacent to the season Pass and ticket holder main entrance. That is right of the Diamond Elite/Preffered parking lot. That is sectioned off from the rest of the parking lot. When entering the after the turnstiles you enter the gift shop which has been changed with a new lay out. That is one of the largest changes at the park. The gift shop has been reconfigured for the new area that houses the parks Season Pass/Membership processing and sales area. It's laid out like a sales office. There is new merchandise in the gift shop as you guest it Six Flag merchandise has been added to the park. One of the new shirts I actually like it displays all the taller rides you find at the park. Once you enter the park to your left of the ramp is the all new membership service booth and the parks all new "Go Fast Pass" the skip the line program new this year. Six Flags uses this pass at Great Escape, La Ronde and other non branded Six Flag parks. The rides they offer this pass on right now is the Coasters, Brain Drain and Renegade Rapids. This location is also the area you will pick up your dining plan cups. Some of the buildings got some refreshes on main street. The most changes was Ft. Frontier they went back to making this the main hub of the park. It has had a lot of changes to the layout. The food Service area has been changed with more tables added in the building. They added a Icee stand in one corner where the old arcade redemption area was located the other corner what housed Santa Clause for HITP is the new home for the Caricature artist. No Gazebo tent with a bench. It's a more themed permanent home. They added a new eating establishment it been there they just didn't use it at all last season. This new place is where you buy loaded nachos BBQ or Chicken Nacho. The arcade moved back into it's old home where it used to be in the 90's and early 2000's. It now connects the Pizza Place with the main area of Ft. Frontier. The arcade they added two new Birthday Party rooms. Besides that they brought back a popular show but instead of it being in the Opera house they put it on the Ft. Frontier Stage. That show is Shake Rattle and Roll. Some of the other areas like the candy store which added Six Flag Branded merchandise like their popular Coaster Candy Brand which takes up a full wall in the candy store. The smaller gift shop is now the Bargain Sale gift shop. The main walkways around the park and rides have gotten refreshes and some areas interactive theme-ing was added to the park. Like Uncle Bart in his outhouse. Rides Tornado and Sidewinder got Refurbished and look like brand new rides. The log ride got a new queue area layout and with Theme-ing elements added to the log ride. Renegade Rapids Exit this year got a new exit with a large theme-ing layout that makes a boring exit much more appealing and fitting for the park. Silver Bullets queue are has changed to allow for the new "Go Fast Pass" entry to the ride. Building's have been rebuilt and fresh paint. Some new games like the very popular paint ball game. That was introduced for Fright Fest and HITP now has a permanent home where the ladder climb game was added to the park. The park has upgraded all the sounds systems in the park and in the shows. They have a new Hot Rod Country show in the Opera House which has an awesome set with added effects and lighting. The gunfight show Crack Axle Canyon amphitheater stage received some upgrades and changes as did the show. Like their Fright Fest show it now pushes the "PG-13" limits. The Magic show they added some new illusions this season. The Two Johns Saloon Magic show is more of interactive magic show with comedy. If you have Diamond/Diamond Elite level membership you will get early access seating for the shows. That is two of their lengthier shows. It is 10 minutes prior to the shows. Reserved area in the Opera house the first two rows. The gunfight show you get early access before the rest of the guests are let into the Crack Axle Canyon Amphitheater. Food wise the park added Dole Whips and Soft serve Ice Cream, Red Velvet Funnel Cakes , ICEE brand. They also brought back the once popular Souvenir Refillable popcorn bucket. That has been absent from the park for the past 2 seasons. I can't forget about Timbertown construction which six flags is not doing cheaply. They are completely refreshing the area with new walkways most of it a new permanent concrete that is stained to look like a dirt surface. They took out most of the asphalt walkway in the area. This day the Coaster and Ferris Wheel and Frog hopper have been constructed. The rides they did have complete like the Plane ride, swings and kiddie Train had new signage and was open for guests as was the play structure and the tea cups. The whole area should be completed in the next few weeks. They have an opening day schedule of Memorial Day but I was talking to a manager they expect it to be done a few weeks before the Holiday weekend. The photos I took I have to break them up because there is so many of them. -

Opening day 2019! There was so many changes to the park in just 3 months. So many changes to every square inch of the park. Six Flags and EPR dumped A lot of money into the park. The entrance has been completely redone to a Six Flags format. Security metal Detectors, Then Ticketing, then Entry. It has separate members entrance that if you are there before opening you get early access to the gift shop and if DB is open that coaster, The main street area of the park. Timber Town is coming along they did get some of the rides open so there will be kiddie rides available for the young ones who can not ride the larger rides. The food service areas have been redone to handle better traffic flow. Just a great layout. The arcade has been moved into it's on area in Fort Frontier. Lot's of infrastructure work and refreshes to rides, buildings etc. and I was amazed Six Flags took the theme-ing up too Knott's Berry Farm level theme-ing. The details I love that give a park it's charm. The staff, management have done an amazing job around the park. They added some very clever elements. Like Uncle Bart in the outhouse who likes to share his relief with guests in the passing. last year Renegade Rapid Queue area got some amazing Theme-ing. This year the exit got the treatment as a Fish bait, canoe renting fishing village. WOW! they added in a open grassy area a Mystery Invisible horse ranch. it's Just little theme-ing touches around the park. The shows and this is one of those show parks had more money pumped into the productions. With more lighting and effects. Lot's of shows through out the day. So much has been added to the park. I know that I had my caution flag up because of how the park was treated by Six Flags last time it was managed by the company. Well that caution flag came down after 3 months .Six Flags has done so much I am truly amazed with Six Flags and the staff and managers at Frontier City. They done a lot of hard work and it shows to me. -

I have been following Oklahoma Coaster Club on Facebook there is a hand full of manager who follow and share on that page. They been sharing photos of off season work. Besides the revamped kids area which from the highway actually look better then what I expected Six Flags to do with the area. The photos they have shared of other areas of the park show alot of upgrades and refreshes around the park. I'm extremely impressed with how much money Six Flags and EPR is actually sinking into the park this off season. They moved things around refurbished some of the older rides and added more country theme-ing elements. Some interactive. I'm actually ready to check this place out on opening day. It will be the actual first full year and first of the newly acquired Theme parks to open the only one that recently opened of the newly added parks is Hurricane Harbor Phoenix. So this will be pretty intersting to see what this park has done in it's return as a Six Flags Park. -

I drove by the park besides the updates I posted about last week I noticed today they have under construction a new Front Ticketing booth. This new booth is about 10 feet forward towards the parking lot. My guesses is they are re-configuring the front so they can fit it in with Six Flags admission protocols. Here is a photo of the new ticketing booth. I took this photo using a I phone from across the property. -
My speculation is that the Area Aquaman Splashdown sits in will become the 2020 attraction that area will become a Flat rides area along the parks main Midway. The whole strip will be redone. Kind of what Fiesta Texas did a few year back with their Fiesta Bay Boardwalk. Now there have been reports of markers between Titan and Giant. There is photos on here as well somebody posted. I saw those markers on opening day those stakes they will go right through where Sidewinder sits. So now I look at the Titan picnic area and the bonyard on Google maps. Minus the boneyard if the road is relocated where these proposed stakes are lined up. Then it will open up a very large area for a roller coaster. They will have to straddle Johnson Creek which Giant and Shockwave already straddle that creek.

I got some park updates from this week from a live video one of the park managers did this past week on the Oklahoma Coaster Club FB page. The video since has been removed because a contractor in the background used a not for safe internet word. With the video representing the park the manager removed the video but will do more live videos before the park opening. Now for what was shared on that video. I'm actually looking forward to the new Timbertown it is no longer going to be Paul Bunyan's Timbertown. I had no idea how bad of shape the area was it was pretty much a patch job through the years. Now the area is getting a complete remodel. I like what Six Flags will be doing to the area. New infrastructure new rides. Two of the rides are rides relocated from other Six Flag parks. The Ferris Wheel and the Airplanes. The existing rides and attractions in the area all being rethemed. The kids train will have a new name and be longer. The existing play structure is going to be completely redone and be called Hootie Treehouse. The School house that is currently being used as storage. They have plans for it and could not say at this time. There is new landscaping and theme-ing and new custom walkways. Not just pavement it will be decorative concrete walkways. I'm actually impressed with the work Six Flags has put into area. They are reopening the video game room that used to be next to the Pizza place. ((The Outside facade says casino) The new party rooms have been constructed in the new video game room. The games are already in place and set up and it looks nice. The Chuck Wagon counter in Fort Frontier has been expanded and looks that they may have more registers added and where the registers were once located may be the Food Pick up. The counter area looks like what you would see at the Big parks in their main food areas to help move larger crowds during busy days. Also in the video was a sneak peak at the set for the new country show in the Opera House. It has to be the most elaborate set that I seen at Frontier City. It takes up the whole stage and the stage side of the Opera house. It looks amazing and rustic. There were some questions about Silver Bullet One being a paint job, Another about the Greezed lighting trains and another if they were going to do any theming with the coaster. He did say no too the paint job this season. He heard something about the former Greezed Lightning train. On a different note that fans of the park will be excited what they are going to do too the coaster then teased and said he could not tell us yet. That thing is not the Greezed Lighting Train. My guesses they will turn the lights on in the tunnel they used during Fright Fest. Either that in the past they mentioned about doing theming elements in the queue line and the coasters infield. Maybe that will happen this season. The rest of the park updates were that they were working on a few building facades that needed to be refreshed, interactive theme-ing elements through out the park. The log ride was getting new handrails. The new rails will have the rail closest to the canal track of the ride closed off so nobody (kids,or adults) can fall into the canal track. New carnival games that he could not share. Did ask about more food options but that is not an area he covers but could get with that department lead and find out for the next video. He did find out about a new Funnel Cake that the park will introduce he was excited about he is not that big on amusement park food. This one he said he will be purchasing on opening day. The park will have Pepsi again this year since the park is still in a multi year contract with Pepsi. He doesn't know the length of the contract. If Six Flags will just honor the multi year contract out it could get expensive to renegotiate a contract. You have to think besides FC there is 4 other parks with Pepsi so it could get pretty expensive to buy out of a contract and renegotiate a new contract. Those are the updates that I found out this past week. -

I know the park is not getting a flashy new attraction but I like what they are doing remodeling an area that hasn't been touched since the late 90's. I drove by the park to see what they are doing construction wise to the kids area. Figured they will be going gangbusters on construction. Pretty much 75 percent of the kids area has been leveled and cleared out. So this is a complete remodel of the kids area. Some of the new Timbertown kid rides have arrived at the park the past few weeks and are sitting in the parking lot. Over Texas is keeping their Caddo Lake Barge ride that was supposed to be in the new Timbertown. Since it was damaged in the Parks Flood this past summer. Six Flags decided to add a Zamperla Jr. Balloon Ferris Wheel. I think actually would be a nice addition to that end of the park for the nightime highway aesthetics. Here is some photos I took from passing by the park last week. New rides in the parking lot. New Rides in the parking lot New structures and the Rio Grand kid train all the old cartoonish carrot theme-ing elements and landscape has been removed. You can see new structures that have been built. The gazebo structure that shaded riders on the Tea Cups has been torn down from the ride. So the ride is not enclosed. Hopefully they rebuild the shade structure Oklahoma summer sun is not to kind to guests. This is the kid Ferris wheel at Over Texas at night. I took on opening weekend. It will be similar to the one that will be added to Frontier City. So it being lit up at night will add more depth to the parks skyline. -
NO Shavethewhales there is no weirdness with it being branded Six Flags Frontier City has been around a lot longer then Six Flags. It's a company choice and the current SF president said it himself he loves the charm of the park. They will not change that charm It is a one Themed park. Western Themed you brand it a Six Flags park you have to end up adding all those other brands to the park like DC comics, Looney Tunes etc. Six Flags primary goal from what I understand is to use these park to supplement their pass and membership numbers for Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor. Since both those parks are within a 3 hour drive. If they grow these parks I only seeing them add flat ride attractions. I think they are including both FC and White Water Bay as one park. So this year FC gets the remodeled kids area with new rides and a kiddie coaster. Next year I bet nothing gets added too FC and White Water bay gets a new attraction. White Water Bay history is that it used to be owned by Silver Dollar City 's Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation and sold to the old premier parks (Tierco) back in the early 90's.

I visited Frontier City for Holiday in the Park last Friday. The park was truly amazing for the parks very first Christmas event. I was surprised how much they had decorated in 3 weeks. They even had some interesting and fun surprise Holiday Easter eggs. Like Quick Draw I would give that Sally shooting dark ride a whirl they cleverly decorated the inside the ride. They did close off their "Renegade Road" which is where you would find Renegade Rapids, Sidewinder, Gunslinger, Go Karts and the Gunfighter stun show. That area has been decorated with lighted scenery's, lighted Archways and a lighted tunnel. They now call the area the North Pole . The Ferris Wheel will take you up and over the park to get sweeping views of all the lights. Soaring Eagle another attraction this will take you over the lighted Main Street and the main Christmas Tree. Another area to get sweeping views of the park Diamondbacks Launch station. The parks has a few shows Magic of Christmas a Christmas themed magic show and Best Time of the Year. Carolers roam the park singing classics. They like it when you join in with them and are very interactive with guests. They like to take selfies with you. Also Main Street is decked out in a Dazzling light shows with snow cannons. The show plays every half hour till the park closes. Kids have a craft area to write Santa a letter and decorate cookies. Of course you can get your photo taken with Santa. Like all Six Flag Parks there is 3 fire pit areas to make s'mores. Your normal Christmas food items Hot Chocolate, Christmas themed Funnel cakes, cookies and bread bowls. Here are some photo I taken when I was at Frontier City for their opening night of Holiday in the Park. -
Golden Ticket Awards 2018
Kemotblue replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Why couldn't they restructure it by the type of park. Have different categories Major Theme Parks (Disney, Universal, Sea World/Busch Gardens, Cedar Point, Magic Mountain, Silver Dollar City; Then next break it down too Medium, Small Independent theme-parks; and finally have one for just the Amusement Parks. It would give more opportunity for more parks to win awards. Not the same parks each and every year winning the awards. When they have the award ceremony to present the awards take the top 5 categories for each group. for example 5 for the Major Parks; 5 for the Medium/Independent parks; 5 for the Amusement Parks. Those are the ones that will be awarded during the event. The rest of the awards in each group will later be awarded to the park after the event. Then publish a list of the winners after the event or the next day. -

2020 - Endeavor I can see that as an addition they had a similar ride like that called Rodeo Round up. 2021- Most definitely see an expansion to the water park area there was talk about adding a lazy river that interacts with Wildcat with a toddlers/kids splash pad. beyond that there is not telling if they go Big with additions. I know that I was told by somebody that worked at the park that when Jim Reid Anderson shortly visited the park after the news of the SF taking over management. He was really impressed with the park and it's potential. He said "the park had a lot of charm like Fiesta Texas" -

Oklahoma City is a lot larger and better then it was in 2006. You know what so is Six Flags. I think Six Flags this time around will do a much better job with this park. I know it's a lackluster addition. A whole area of the park is being completely remodeled it just not adding a few kids rides. A brand new Jr. Roller coaster to replace the painful aging Wildkitty. Two new Flat rides and a relocated ride from Six Flags Over Texas. The whole area from the local press release a complete remodel of the whole kids area. The tiny buildings are staying and the Two play structures are getting make overs with additions and changes. the park saw an area that has not been touched since 1997 they felt that change was needed more then a Thrill rides. Their focus was on what families locally would want to see done at the park. Not Thrill seekers enthusiast wanted to see added to the park. 2020 I can see a ride clone come to this park. Coaster wise I can see A 4D Free Fly coaster if not that a tower ride like a Skyscreamer or Drop Tower. The park is missing some type of tower ride since they removed Eruption and Hangman. This time around I think Six Flags will do a better job of taking care of the park. Time will only tell I like that their season was extended now I can enjoy the park 10 months out of the year. Instead of 7 months of the year. -
The Go Karts at Frontier City also closed this season? They boarded them up and fenced them off. The new kids area they advertised is not going in the area. So curious why Six Flags is closing their Go Karts. You have think the ones at Discovery Kingdom closed and will be the new home of the Batman The Free Fly coaster.

Shave your comment about the coasters technically is right. They are getting a brand new cheap coaster.. "Frankie's Mini Mine Train". Kidding aside I'm OK with what they are going to do to the area. Beside the 3 brand new rides, and a SFOT relocation ride. They are reworking the whole area the mini buildings are remaining and everything is else is getting a complete makeover even the Large Play Structure. So the remodel of the kids area is going to be pretty significant change for the park. I don't believe they are entirely using Frontier City as a feeder park. It has always been a feeder park for Over Texas. There is a lot of OKC metro resident's I know who don't care to set foot in Frontier City and have Passes too Over Texas. Now that Frontier City is back they feel their Pass has more value. They plan to visit Fright Fest this year and HITP. The way Passes work this time around compared to back in 2006. It's a win for Frontier City. It will be interesting how the membership works at this park in 2019. Future attraction wise I'm not worried one Six Flags only leasing the management rights to the park. The one that will fit the bill for new rides will be EPR out of Kansas City. EPR is financial backers of Top Golf, Schlitterbahn Water park Resorts, Several theme park and amusement parks. They will make sure to continue investing into their parks.
