Big Surprises on Coasters
agerikson replied to gerstlaueringvar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The pop of ejector airtime in the tunnel on Kings Dominion's Grizzly. Such an awesome moment every time! -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
agerikson replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Seems as if the restraints are stripped from the test seat. Could WT be getting new restraints?? Would be nice if it got more reasonable restraints (on the seatbelt at least). It really should be more like other Intamin inverts like Volcano and Possessed. I can easily ride those but my height makes Wicked Twisters seatbelt very taut. -
How Often Do You Go To Your Local Park?
agerikson replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Six Flags America is my local park and I visited 12 times this year however half of those were under 3 hour visits in between client sessions when I just felt like killing time. No better way to kill an hour or two than some laps on Superman, Jokers Jinx and Wild One. My frequent visits this past season actually helped build an appreciation for SFA. -
Agreed. SFA has to realize that Apocalypse has not been a success by any means at this point. The GP are well aware that this coaster is absolutely garbage. My last visit earlier this month, which was a completely dead FF Saturday, Apocalypse had between 2 and 4 people per train, when Superman had about a 15 minute wait. SFA desperately needs a new coaster to call their own, and it doesn't have to be 300 feet tall or $30 million, just something smooth, new, and their own. Its a shame because the theming for Apocalypse is tremendous (for SFA at least). I mean, I would have honestly preferred SFA to have just plopped Iron Wolf down (well, my real preference is to scrap it) and save that theming and those fire effects for another installation or a retheme for something in the park.

So, yesterday was probably the most crowded I've ever seen at an amusement park. My girlfriend and I did a splurge and purchased platinum flash passes and scare passes. The flash pass was tremendous for something I probably won't ever purchase again. Glad I did it as it was life saver. Even with platinum, the times were still 20 minutes on nearly every coaster from about 7 onward and the even the flash pass lines were lengthy. My girlfriend and I ditched out on a final night ride on El Toro at 11 pm when the line was 30+ minutes to get scanned. I have a problem with the Six Flags operations when the park was that crowded as numerous people in the flash pass queue on rides like Zumanjaro and El Toro were not able to ride yet but blocked other flash pass users who were ready. As far as rides go, my girlfriend and I got about 10 rides on El Toro and Nitro. El Toro was fun in the morning but was absolutely rolling in the evening with full trains and a warmed up track. Nitro was also really running well. Four rides in the front and six rides in the back and we were getting great floater air through the whole ride. Kingda Ka is was it is. Zumanjaro is still fun but is definitely at its best after sundown. I finally got a front row ride on Bizarro (haven't had one since Medusa) and it is still fun. Literally no one in the station when we were waiting and had no triple stacking on our four rides. Batman The Ride is still my favorite invert, enough said. We skipped the other coasters so we could get more time on the our favorites. Also got the last truck of the day on the safari. Our guide, Ashley, was so much fun. She had a great personality and interaction with the guests. Overall the park employees did a great job in spite of poorly behaved guests. In addition to Ashley above, I have to give shout outs to ride ops on El Toro and Zumanjaro. A rider on El Toro got walk of shamed and decided to take it out on the ride ops and other guests in line, for some reason, took his side and started booing the ops when he insisted they unlock the train and open the airgates so someone in his party could ride with his son. Took about 10 minutes to dispatch but the ride ops took it well. On Zumanjaro, a group of four were in the single riders line and started screaming profanities at the grouper when she told him they would have to be split since they're in the single riders line. The grouper took that awful behavior in stride and disengaged rather than escalating the situation. Finally, I can definitely say that the terror trails are not worth the wait/extra cost. I enjoyed the actors in Wasteland and Voodoo Island but compared to the two Halloween Haunts I've done at two Cedar Fair parks, I wasn't impressed with the theming, costumes, makeup, and scare zones. I have no regrets in purchasing the scare pass since the 3 hour waits they had for the several of the trails would have put a damper on our evening and now I know I can skip the terror trails in the future.

Favorite Inversion
agerikson replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This takes the cake for me too. Each time I ride it, I try to fathom the physics of it but I can't. It's like the airtime is sustained from the ascent, through the heartline and then magically into the dive. -
What was your first Intamin Coaster
agerikson replied to grsupercity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Bob Track, an Intamin bobsled at Efteling in the Netherlands when I was 7. -
With the overcast skies and slight chill in the air, the park was dead this morning even with the BAFF weekend going on. I only spent three hours at the park but ended up getting 10 rides on El Toro (all walk-ons + re-rides) despite minor downtime in the middle, 1 back seat ride on Batman, 1 front row seat on Nitro (two train wait), a ride on Green Lantern (I know everyone hates on it but I love leg day at the gym so ) and then got mine and my girlfriend's 2015 season pass processed. It helps that everyone is still enamored by the two-headed breakdown low capacity beast of Kingda Ka and Zumanjaro and their queues absorbed most of the crowds. I then started driving to Allentown, PA to try for my first visit at Dorney Park in two decades but then those overcast skies began their downpour and that cut my day short as I turned the other way back toward Maryland. Ended up driving nearly 7 hours for 3 hours at the park. But I guess I wouldn't be an enthusiast if I didn't think it was worth it

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
agerikson replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You referring to a free fast lane plus or preview? Ive never seen it offered. If you notice the price difference, Kings Dominion tickets are even a little cheaper than Kings Island. My Platinum Pass is the same price though -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
agerikson replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A question for anyone who might know, are Kings Dominion season passholders going to be getting the same pass renewal offer that other Cedar Fair park passholder seem to be getting? Has anyone received anything yet? I'd like to renew my Platinum pass and free stuff is always welcome. -
I'm more offended that those are the ONLY shirts that they sell. I just wanted a shirt with a simple "El Toro" logo or something, but I found literally nothing Walking through the gift shops at a Six Flags park makes me feel like I've stepped into a real-life Idiocracy. Honestly, that's a problem at most parks (outside of Disney). I took my first trip to Cedar Point earlier this year and just wanted a nice retro park shirt or a Magnum XL-200 shirt but there were slim pickings. Most of the apparel were just designs straight out of the late 90s with useless coaster stats superimposed on top. At least Great Adventure's "suggestive" apparel looks like its from this century.

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
agerikson replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Haven't seen it mentioned but the Premier spaghetti bowls (Flight of Fear/Joker's Jinx) have a great ending. The increasing speed on the downward turns through the structure followed by a great and surprising corkscrew is always a blast. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

I got a coupon at Walgreen's here in MD for $6 off. I think CVS has them too. I think all the regular single day tickets allow you to do preview night. You only have to pay for parking doing the preview. As long as you have your parking ticket and park ticket, you can park without paying the next day. -
What are some loud rides and coasters?
agerikson replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great Bear at Hersheypark is extremely loud. It has the distinctive B&M roar but due to its location right over the walkway and the natural ampitheather-like geography of "The Hollow" section of the park, it is impossible to hold a conversation in the immediate area when Great Bear is being consistently dispatched. -
You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If....
agerikson replied to PCW_Nut's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've done this so many times. I don't eat on coasters, but I will eat in line. Last Saturday, I wolfed down fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn waiting for Great America's Drop Tower. Heh, I drink in line. What I've always loved about Busch Gardens was the ability to take your beverage anywhere. A beer or two definitely makes waiting easier.
