Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Yep, Volcano has crotch belts now which are much, much better. While I can fit on Wicked Twister, the belt is definitely taut. Hell, when I first went to CP, I didn't think I could ride Twister because, maddeningly, the test seat doesn't have the second, easier to reach, buckle. -
Should coaster entrances have weight scales?
agerikson replied to adamd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Don't know what a scale would do. I weigh 260 lbs but I'm also 6'5" and pretty well proportioned framewise. I can fit on the dozens of coasters I've been on in the past year. Some are a bit tight but that probably has more to do with my height and length of my legs than weight. Honestly, riders and park employees just have to display common sense. Use test seats before you ride and don't throw a hissy fit if you are beyond the restraint restrictions. The walk of shame sucks but individuals should use it as motivation to lose weight. Hell, I use the tight seatbelts I've experienced on a few rides as motivation. -
Yep, didn't notice anything too unusual in the back of Nitro's C train on Saturday. Maybe slightly more of a rattle but nothing that impacted the (tremendous) ride experience. My girlfriend actually ignored my warning and dragged me on the C train. Afterwards, she concluded that coaster enthusiasts are wussies. [emoji38]

I stayed at the Motel 6 Sandusky-Milan with my girlfriend before Coastermania for under $50. The room was nice and up to date. The location was very convenient too as it was only 10-15 minutes away from Cedar Point plus it was right off the Ohio Turnpike. -

I was actually able to ride Wicked Twister during Coastermania which was a nice surprise. I am fine on every coaster I've ridden for awhile (with a stapling needed here or there by a ride op) but Wicked Twister's reputation (and the amount of things to do for a first time CP visitor) kept me away. I even tried the test seat the night before and it wasn't even close! However I decided to say screw it and go ahead when the ride was a walk on since a walk of shame would be less shameful without an audience! However, that extra buckle on the seat turned out to be all I needed and it was just enough. However, being 6'5" and somewhat "built" in the torso made the belt totally taut. No joke that Twister is unforgiving. Volcano at Kings Dominion and V2 at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom don't give me any difficulty. I wish CP would at least modify the test seat to have it match the ride seats if not modify the train itself to be more forgiving like other similar Intamin inverts. -
Your first Arrow Dynamics coaster
agerikson replied to stashua123's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Williamsburg! Not only my first Arrow but my first roller coaster. Rode it back in 1992 at the ripe old age of 3. Sad to see it go but happy it was replaced by a coaster that will be just as thrilling for the kids. As soon as my goddaughter is old/tall enough, she will hopefully be riding Verbolten. -

Am I the only one who thinks Flight of Fear is terrible? The launch is fun, but the building isn't even near pitch-black and there are no special effects, so it is pointless to have it indoors (other than the fact that it can operate in the rain). The MCBR pretty much brings the train to a full stop, so the rest of the ride is taken at a snails pace. Overall, I'd say Vortex is FAR better than Flight of Fear. I hate Flight of Fear because the restraints are so awful. Each and every time I have so much trouble getting my feet and legs into that tiny space between the lap bar and ankle padding and then actually getting that giant rubber lap bar over my knees. While I certainly don't prefer the OTSRs it used to have, I despise the fact that it is so difficult to fit in. What really stinks is that Joker's Jinx, the FoF clone at Six Flags America has restraints that are less cramped (or at least it feels like they are) and it is no less uncomfortable without the crazy rubber cylinder bar. Tall people problems I guess. -
For those who are afraid, I'm 6'5" with a lot that in the legs and while I've never been on Bizarro (will later this summer), I have ridden Superman: Ride of Steel at SFA which has identical trains (including ankle "restraints") and height restrictions but I have ridden dozens of times without incident. No guarantee of course, especially if ride ops are actively checking heights. The trains aren't identical. When it became bizarro it got new trains with big lap bars and no legroom. Huh, look at that, the restraints are different. That's what I get for doing a visual inspection on a phone.

Had to keep water in a cup through the ride. The 15 with the most won a 2015 Platinum Pass. After reading the rules and seeing the line (with no guarantee of even participating) I decided to get five laps on Maverick instead. No regrets. Do you know if there were any other rules? Like putting your hand on top? If I read the rules correctly (someone tell me if I'm wrong) the cup was attached to the train itself and you couldn't interfere with it. Also, on a completely separate note, I'm at Kings Island now and just got my first ever ride on Banshee. While fun, Raptor is still my preferred ride. I want those leg numbing banked curves and tight inversions! -

I will be going alone to Kings Island (my first visit) on Saturday. If anyone here would like to share some rides with this guy and give me some company, send me a PM! -

I'm going to be at Coastermania alone on Friday (girlfriend has to be back in Baltimore to work ). I wouldn't mind sharing a couple rides with some other awesome coaster enthusiasts so keep a lookout for a big guy in an orange shirt if you would like some company! -

That ride op is the best! His name is Dale too which is so appropriate for Intimidator plus his voice sounds like that of a race announcer. It is almost like KD went out of their way to headhunt the perfect person to operate I305! -

I've got a question for those familiar with Cedar Point and its crowds. My girlfriend and I will be making it up to Sandusky for our first trip to Cedar Point ever! While I'll be there for two days including Coastermania on June 6th, my girlfriend has to be back in Maryland that day and will be missing the event. I want her to experience everything in one day and I'm wondering if that will be possible on a Thursday in early June (5th) without a Fast Lane purchase. We will be staying off site and she doesn't have a platinum pass so early entry is out too. With the understanding that crowds can be somewhat random, about what should we expect as far as queues go?
