Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Just remember that Valleyfair waited till September 11th the last two years to make an announcement. I cant confirm this but i hope im right, my gut tells me we will have a very significant announcement. I dont know what but i think it will not only include some sort of attraction but also the near future growth plans. There are several things that are leading me to this thought. -

Cedar point just tweeted 8-18-15. Must be their announcement date cause it also had cp2016 under it. I wonder what Valleyfair has in store? -

One correction. The Soak City announcement was on September 11th. That week has been Valleyfairs announcement week for at least two years in a row now. -

Remember that last year we did not get the official announcement for the Soak City addition until August. Yes, we all knew it was coming but that's not the point. The year before we were all surprised by late announcement of the Route 76 expansion and that turned out fantastic! My point is that Valleyfair has a history of waiting until late in the season to make announcements for the following year. I wish Valleyfair threw out hints but they don't so we just have to wait. Most of the other Cedar Fair parks have not announced anything yet either. Sometimes the writing is on the wall and other times we just get surprised. At this point I would guess that we have 3 possibilities. One, a flat ride somewhere. Two, another waterpark addition, possibly where the old splash station is or where the sand play area is or even a large water play structure that would take up both spots and stretch over the lazy river. One other possibility is the replacement of the panic falls slides. Three, an announcement about the permit that was submitted and their plans for developing that area which could include a new coaster and/or waterpark addition. If a new coaster was in the works they would have to wait to construct it until all the flood berm work was completed so if there was a new coaster it may not open till 2017 but construction would start in 2016. Just my thoughts. I hope I'm not being too "daft" -

I don't see the arcade going anywhere soon because it is used as a haunt building but if they were to remove it and combine that land with the former land that tilter sat on it would create potentially a new area for a small coaster. It would of course have to traverse the Minnesota Valley Railway tracks and tunnel but it could be designed to be a really cool themed area! -

Partly my point! But i dont think your accurate. Soak city expansion was about 7 mil. C. W. And K. D. Both got large waterpark expansions. C.G.A. got planet Snoopy. Valleyfair's planet Snoopy was 9 mil. Dont forget C. P. got rougarou which wasnt cheap. The largest additions will not always translate into higher revenue. But it was partly my point when taken in light of valleyfair being earmarked for significant expansion. by the way, what is daft? -

I was looking at the Cedar Fair website and saw this news release which talked about a 5% increase in revenue for Cedar Fair compared the same time last year. Valleyfair was mentioned specifically along with Carowinds and Knott's. Here is the statement that was released; "We are pleased with the strong start to the first half of 2015," said Matt Ouimet, president and chief executive officer. "Our strategy heading into this year was to provide experiences which would encourage our guests to visit our parks early and to visit them often. This included a focus on early season pass sales, the introduction of an all-season dining program across all of our parks, new spring-time events and delivering innovative new rides and attractions as early as possible. We believe our successful execution in these four areas has been the major driver in our current year growth in terms of both attendance and guest spending." Ouimet stated that the overall guest response to Fury 325 at Carowinds, along with the new interactive dark ride, Voyage to the Iron Reef, at Knott's Berry Farm, have exceeded expectations. A major water park expansion at Valleyfair has also been well received by its guests, while the renovation of the historic Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point and improved bookings at the Great America Pavilion have both contributed nicely to the growth in out-of-park revenues. I don't what you all think but CEO's don't just throw around names of entities that they control. Everything is carefully thought out before it gets released to the public. So when Mr. Ouimet mentions Valleyfair in it's quarterly release that says something to me. It's awesome that the new addition to Soak City has been a huge hit. That is pretty much what Mr. Frazier told me over a month ago. What it means for the future is unknown but I like where it's heading. -

I remember when I used to post on coasterbuzz and younger people would join. I felt so bad for them because the people on that site were mean to the younger posters because they didn't use proper grammar and had spelling mistakes. Coasterlead, dont give up on loving coasters. It is a fun hobby and the coasters are always changing and evolving. Its very exciting. Just dont make crazy jaded comments at other posters or parks. Have fun with it. Enjoy it Yes I agree. I find it shameful that a 30 year old would pick on a very young person calling them sensitive like grow up! Your 30, your not a high schooler or in college anymore. Plus you don't know what disorders I have or what crap I have in my life. Who says that to someone's face like, bruh I know not to do that and I'm 13. It's like don't let the door slam ya in the A$$. Plus who says so much wrong with this post. Cmon! Say review your facts, or maybe you should review this topic more. Saying so much wrong with this post how rude! God it's like mature up people! I don't go around saying your post is wrong and stuff. I will stay will TPR but it's annoying that people aren't mature. Don't call me a kid! Just put thecoasterlead! I don't call you old so don't call me kid. Gosh darn it! I'm sorry for ranting but it's like the sense of respect in this forum is poor! I understand I'm not respectful in all my post and I'm sorry! Whatever I'll stay with TPR I guess but I'm not going to let people slap me in the face. Hey people, back off the guy. No one deserves to be "slapped in the face". Everyone has the right to say what they want without being belittled! So what if he is 13. He still has good things to say and if he wants to show his frustrations on this forumn then let him. -

You can buy credits for just the rides you want to go on at Combo Town. At the zoo be sure to see the gorillas and the polar bears! -

I forgot to mention the Dells and Mt. Olympus. Hades 360 is a pretty fun ride but extremely rough. Make sure you check your own restraints cause the maintenance in the park is clearly lacking. You can see it all over! The ride ops for Hades wont even ride it. I was there last year and that is what they told me. The park is horribly laid out and a lot the rides are extra charge. The water park is o.k. but very spread out. The best part about the park is the Poseidon's Rage wave pool. It produces 9' waves about every 90 seconds. It's the only wave pool I've been in that actually is a bit scary. The wave will pummel you! No kidding! You will not be able to stand upright when it hits you. But somehow the park get away with only about half the life guards that Valleyfairs wave pool has. Not sure what's going on there but just be aware. Also, remember the Dells is a tourist trap. All sorts of attractions that want your money. If you can be sure to do a jet boat tour of either the upper or lower Dells area. They are a lot more fun then the ducks. Again, have fun! -

Unless you are looking for coaster credits or have small children I would skip Como Town, its really geared for children. Como Zoo and the conservatory are pretty nice and they are free. All three are in the same location. They do ask for donations but its not required. Como Town does have a new kiddie coaster that opened this year. Nick U and MOA pretty much anytime would be good. The state fair is going on and kids are starting back to school. Don't miss Avatar Airbender at Nick U. its the best ride at the park IMO. If you like flying check out ACES. It's a place that has flight simulators and are very realistic. Also, the new sting ray exhibit at Underwater Adventures is worth the price alone. You actually get to pet the sting rays. There is one ray in particular that absolutely loves to get pet and will let you know its coming so you can get ready. It's pretty cool. You can find coupons located around the mall so make sure you find one before you go. Valleyfair: Get there at 9:15 A.M. Best parking spot is in the corner on the front left of the parking lot. Its between Steel Venom and the entrance and right below the Wild Thing turnaround. Season pass holder can get in early. Soak City should be your first stop. They open at 9:30 for season pass holders. Head right to the new slide tower and get your 90' climbs in early. Then head to Renegade and get your rides in there. If you are there till close come back and ride Renegade at night. It's pretty sweet but keep your mouth closed! This being your first time at VF then make sure you ride Excalibur. Its a pretty fun coaster but not very popular and will most likely be removed soon to make way for new expansion. Lastly, up in the front of the park in the Route 76 themed area is Northern Lights. Everyone I talk to that has ridden it says the same thing, " it looked kind of boring or eh" Everyone who has ridden it says its a lot of fun and I agree. If you get a back row corner spot that is the best seat. Lots of airtime! P.S. look for the fish in the small pond if you ride Antique Auto's. Have Fun and give us a trip report if you can! -

The last time I heard from the Matt McCormick, the marketing Director, he said they were working on something and it wouldn't be revealed until the operating season. That was after I had asked him if Valleyfair could do some kind of Coaster Craze event. I actually started by asking Mr. Frazier and he passed this on the Mr. McCormick. I'm not sure what happened cause no Coaster Craze event has been announced. We still have a lot of season to go so maybe that is still to come. We'll see! -

Even though Valleyfair owns the land it is still a wetland in a nature preserve. They would need to get approved permits before they could do anything with the land. With this kind of permit the general public is allowed to give their objections if they wish. Valleyfair did not invite the public to object, they have no choice but to let the public object if they want. Then, if there are objections, Valleyfair and Cedar Fair address those objections and hopefully come to an agreement. This is the reason why its so hard to build in areas like this. We all wish it was as simple as just filling in the low land and building new attractions but its not. -

Screamscape has a posting of new track showing up at the B&M plant in Ohio. While I'll agree this is probably for the yet unannounced Dive Coaster at Cedar Point something else caught my attention. It's only mid July and there seems to be an lot of tract already and it doesn't all appear to me to be for the same coaster. I could be wrong but I find it interesting. Check out the photos for yourself and comment on your thoughts. I recently asked Mr. Frazier what the status was on the Army Corp of Engineers permit for a new access road, berm and new parking lot. He responded by saying that he couldn't/wouldn't tell me. It was an interesting response. Normally he would say something like we will see or its up for public objections right now. We should know what is going to happen within the next 2 months! Stay tuned! -

Nothing awkward about stating facts! Yes, your right about wording and making specific statements about what will go where. But we will eventually get a new coaster! Do we know any specifics about it? No! But it's a lot more fun to speculate using real manufactures and real coaster styles than just saying "A coaster of unknown origin and species will be build at Valleyfair sometime within the next 25 years, stay tuned!" Lighten up people! By the way, I can still love amusement parks at 48. I'm not dead yet! -

Alright, I need to chime in here. This is in response to C.P.A.Guy's question on whether or not there is proof of Cedar Fair singling out Valleyfair as a growth Park. I had to find it again and with the help of RCJunkie here is the quote: • The chain sees three parks as having room for significant growth, Carowinds, Valleyfair, and California's Great America. I'm quite surprised to see Valleyfair on that list! They will expand heavily at those parks, with the focus on Carowinds first - as has been previously announced. You can look this up for yourself at newsplusnotes.blogspot.com/2013/12. Once you get there scroll down and look at the list of blog entries on the left and you will find an entry titled "Heard on....Cedar Fair ubs media presentation. You can read the entire Cedar Fair statement. I don't think the video presentation is available anymore though. So, having given you all ample proof that we are not making this up I have to say something. First of all I don't come on this thread to hear only realistic statements. Talk about boring. "Today at Valleyfair a guest threw up after riding Enterprise, comments please!" There is absolutely nothing wrong with some good old fashion speculating. Don't come down on those who want to throw out scenarios and speculate what will go where, its fun! I love the fact that we have a lively thread and don't fool yourself. Cedar Fair and Valleyfair do read these threads. I'm not sure how much weight it holds with decision making but Mr. Frazier told me he reads a lot of this stuff including FB. So, those of you who say we need to keep things realistic and stop speculating based on "nothing", I say phooey on you! Cedar Fair is investing heavily in Carowinds to the tune of $50+ million dollars. They said Carowinds would be first which they are. They did not say who would be second. Even before this announcement about Carowinds they were still investing in the park. They added a large water park addition before they announced the 50 mil. So, even though Cedar Fair has invested Valleyfair the last few years does not mean that they won't make a major announcement similar to Carowinds. Is it going to be 50 mil? No idea! But the fact that they did invest so heavily in Carowinds makes us wonder what they will do with Valleyfair. Valleyfair actually has a larger local market then Carowinds. Don't get started about the climate, Cedarpoint puts that argument in the grave. I believe the reason that our attendance is not higher is because for many years Valleyfair was put on the back burner and neglected. With all the changes we have seen in the last 5 years I believe they have been preparing the park for this "significant growth" that is to come. Come on people, why would Valleyfair build a catering facility that can produce 3000 meals per hour and seat thousands? Why would they be asking the Army Corp of Engineers to help them build a new access road and presumably extend the berm so they can expand. We do have a right to speculate! P.S. I for one am thrilled for Adventurland! It shows that this region is ready and hungry for more thrilling rides without having to travel so much. This is great news for Valleyfair! It may even put some pressure on Cedar Fair to get things going! In the meantime, make a trip down south to get your next coaster fix next season! Whew! I'm done! Lol! -
You just never know. The park has added 3 coasters since it's opening. There is still a very large area over the top of the arcades. I've heard that it is going to be a planetarium but its been like this for about a year now. With space opening up near by they just might try to pull off another coaster. One can hope right?

I live in Farmington and i go about 5 - 7 times a year. Season pass is the only way to play! My last trip i took my daughter and was only charged 9.95 for her ticket. Im really not sure why it was so low but i wasnt complaining. They might have thought we were part of a school group but i really dont know.
