Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Oh wow, I don't know if I can narrow it down to 5 but I will with ties! 1. Wild Thing - I happen to like the turnaround on Wild Thing, its actually pretty unique and it intertwines with a lot of the park. The second hill is a loooong low gravity zone which makes it pretty cool. 1. Renegade - You will see what we mean when we say "Hang On", Oh, if you ride at night its awesome but just keep your mount closed unless your hungry! HaHa! 2. Steel Venom - I love the force of it and the brake hold will make you squirm! 2. Avatar Airbender - Nic U. Reminds me of Steel Venom only with spinning cars, love this ride 3. Rock Bottom Plunge - Nic U. Overall a pretty fun ride. I like the lift hill. When you crest the top you are actually above the roof rafters. 4. Corkscrew - Pretty descent coaster for an older arrow. I also love how it intertwines with the park and goes over the midway. 5. Pepsi Orange Streak - Nic U. This may be a surprise but this is one of the most unique coasters you will ever go on. Don't ride it for the thrill but for getting great views and overall enjoyment. 5. Fairly Odd Coaster - Nic U. Get a good unbalance on the car and watch out! You will spin like crazy. It also has some good airtime moments. -

Sorry that I was not clear enough. I choose a list of CF, SF and Independent parks to illustrate my point that all parks add a coaster to increase attendance and that VF is no different. I feel VF is ready now to add one in an attempt to grow the park. But since I'm stupid I would appreciate your help in under standing all the MASSIVE infrastructure upgrades in detail of what and where that VF needs to finally accommodate a new coaster. With you sharing all your knowledge I can stop making dumb or 'trolling' comments. And if you have the time could you list all the MASSIVE infrastructure upgrades that KI, CP, WOF and CW did the year before they added a new coaster? Amen brothers! Let's all just assume that Californiapinto just likes to make random statements based on nothing but liking to see his posts on this thread. I'm sure Valleyfair is not the only forum he likes to intrude upon. O.K. anybody getting any closer to unscrambling my latest clue? -

Yes it does if VF wants to keep up with the rest of the parks in the CF chain. Every other park in the chain over the last 5 years has received a new coaster except Mia and KBF. During that time KBF got a Windseeker that was removed and had also has received much love with Camp Snoopy, Calico Mine and Log Ride revamps among other additions. If VF does not want to become MiA they need a new coaster soon, it will be 9 years in 2016. There are so many things wrong with this post. KBF got a coaster a few years ago Coast Rider. Valleyfair got a coaster in 2011. MiA and WOF haven't got a coaster in 5 years. Dorney got a coaster a few years ago (Stinger) which I believe doesn't run anymore. They haven't got a "new" coaster since 2005, the last two were relocated coasters. California's Great America didn't get a coaster from 2001-2013 and they seem to be doing fine. Hell Cedar Point didn't get a coaster for 6 years, so I guess they must have really neglected the park. Also if you are getting a coaster just because you are trying to compete with parks that are out of your league the park will be in trouble. A new coaster is not a need right meow, the park needs to get cleaned up first which is what they are doing. When you get something new to attract people you want your place looking nice so people will come back. What?! Wow! Sweet! VALLEYFAIR GOT A NEW COASTER IN 2011!!! Can't wait to get to the park and ride it....................................................................................................oh wait, Valleyfair is my home park and I don't remember them getting a new coaster in 2011, or 2010 or 2009 or 2008...you get the point. I am not counting old used kiddie coasters and Northern Lights albeit an awesome "flat ride" is not a coaster. Valleyfair has not got a new coaster since Renegade in 2007. We have not received a coaster of any kind with inversions in over 30 years! We are not whining, just stating facts on what Valleyfair needs right now. Know your facts before you post cause it just kills your credibility. Also, what are you talking about when you mention getting "cleaned up first"? Valleyfair is one of the most clean, well landscaped and beautiful parks in Cedar Fair's chain. Didn't you read the post by voyager 6442? Here it is. "I just wanted to tell you guys how much I've enjoyed reading the VF thread. I started with the oldest post (2005?) and have been reading them in chronological order. It has been neat to see how much you guys love your park and hope for great things in the future. I hope you will get them, because you deserve them. I am 960 miles away from Minneapolis, and if I were going to be within several hundred miles of your park, I would definitely make a stop there." O.K. Next topic. I want to comment on a post by danthebooker, If that's the case, he's acting like an attention hungry school child by making you all play his cryptic little games. OR he's risking the insider info he has or claims to have. I for one have a source within the park who has told me about past expansions well before they were made public. I chose to keep that info to myself and a very select inner circle. I run less of a risk of it coming back that I said something and my source not letting me in on stuff. To each their own I guess. I'm hoping for a new coaster opening in less than three years and my source tells me I won't be disappointed. I'm not looking for attention, its fun to speculate! If I can get people talking or trying to solve a puzzle, GREAT! Look, the powers that make the decision on what to build where read these forums. I know this to be true. So, what is going to have maybe a little influence when they make their decision. Finding a forum where hardly anybody comments on it or finding a forum that is rapidly growing and is very active? When there is little activity that shows that nobody cares what they do. Lots of activity is attractive to the powers that make the decisions. Trust me on this one. If you don't like the puzzles then you don't have to try to solve it. I just think it a lot more fun, that's all. -

Ok all haunt fans! You can be very proud of the job that Valleyfair does with haunt! I went to SCarowinds haunt last weekend. I'm telling you they got nothin on ValleyScare! The zones were ok, the mazes just made me laugh, it was hard to find the mazes and the decorations were subpar. ValleyScare beats them hands down! -

Valleyfair will get another water park expansion but not In 2016. What I got out of my last conversation with Mr Frazier was that they are adding 4 drop slides ssh o they can close the existing ones and put something else there. He didn't say that but thats what I'm gathering. Its the same thing as to why they are adding a new splash pad. -

Report from Carowinds part 1 Favorite coaster was Afterburner! Awesome invert! So much force and power it was really quite unbelievable! I am hoping and praying that Valleyfair gets a unique but comparable new invert in 2016. Intimidater was simply amazing. Sat in back seat and literally had to hang on. First drop took my breath away. It really makes me upset when I read posts on tpr that people think its lame! Those people have got to be drug addicts to not get a rush from it. I should note, every steel coaster was extremely smooth, not rough at all. Even Vortex, a B&M stand up was very smooth. More to come........... -

I got to go to SCarowinds today (Oct. 26th) Had a blast on all the rides, the mazes mostly just made me laugh. I'll give a full report in the next couple of days. Sorry, no pics. My phone died before I could get any. I just gotta say one thing though. Valleyfair does a much better job of doing haunt attractions. I'll explain later but ValleyScare = 1, SCarowinds = 0 -

I'll be visiting the park this coming sunday. Probably arrive around 1 p.m. Where can I get coupons for ticket discounts? I'm not from the area so something close to the park would be very helpful. Thanks! -

Mr. Frazier told me he really wants to do something about the parking lot. The problem is that it is built over a bog. The ground heaves quite abit in this area. He has been working with a local paving contractor to try and develope a parking lot that is flexible and can move without cracking. This local contractor is working on such a pavement. Maybe they can team up and Valleyfair can be their testing grounds. -

Yes! the speculation has begun! When I spoke with Mr. Frazier, he said that if you would have asked me "last year" what we were getting he could have told me (that's hypothetical, he would not have told me but just that he knew what was coming). Here is the exciting part. The rumor I am sitting on has developed sometime between last year, as in 2013, and now. The hint's that I have given you point to this. Now remember, this is only still a rumor but comes from a very trusted source. Before then end of the year I may learn more about this rumor. So, in my opinion, this is good news! I was watching the web cam this morning and I saw Mr. Fazier out taking the photo that he tweeted. I txted him and confirmed that it was him. I told him that next time he does that to do a little dance for us! He just txted back and said that wouldn't be good idea! -

Why doesn't anyone like Intimidator? Although I get the backlash on adding a 2nd large B&M, the two at Canada's Wonderland really complement each other. Wow, I guess its true. It's impossible to please everybody but here it seems to be more prevalent than most discussion threads. You locals of Carowinds really need to be thankful for what you have and for what your getting. Fury 325 is going to be an amazing coaster and just about every other park including my own home park, Valleyfair, would give up their left nut to have a coaster like this in their park. Please don't complain about it or Intimidator. At Valleyfair, if Cedar Fair announced a coaster like Fury 325 you would literally be able to hear a shout of joy all the way down south from us Northern boys! -

I'm traveling to Charlotte on Sunday Oct. 26th for a business meeting. I want to go to the park that day. If my flight is on time I should be at the park at about 1 p.m. If I am understanding the pricing correct, I would have to pay for a full day at the park, leave for an hour and a half and then pay again to get back into the park. So if I wanted to stay from 1 p.m. to say 9 p.m. its going to cost me somewhere about $80 bucks? Can someone please confirm this or correct me. I live in Minnesota. Valleyfair is my home park. If I went to the park on Saturday morning, I could stay all day and into the night for ValleyScare! One price. Lots of thanks to anybody who can shed some light on this for me. Thank you! -

sorry to burst your bubble but Canada's Wonderland is getting a massive coaster in 2016 and Cedar Point probably will to Canada's Wonderland is not getting a huge coaster. They got Leviathan which is massive enough, Behemoth for the mega coasters, so expect something other than a massive coaster. They could get something decent at low cost (like a modern woodie) so Valleyfair can get their massive coaster, which could still be a low price tag since massive at Valleyfair would still be around 150 to 199 ft. They've started land clearing a year and a half early so trust me Canada's Wonderland is getting another 30 million dollar coaster, just read the news stories from the park with reporters where they say you saw we built leviathan and behemoth so expect big and innovative They can start land clearing three years ago, it doesn't mean another massive coaster. Yes it does mean a coaster, but im not seeing anything over 20 million. Valleyfair has been stated multiple times of major investment for quite a long time now officially. What you are basing a massive coaster at Canada's Wonderland is only speculation. I'm so certain I'm willing to bet you this coaster will be big and over 25 million dollars, I'll bet you $100 thats how certain i am. So What! Yea, maybe CW is going to get another coaster in 2016. So What! You think Cedar Fair can't build more than one new coaster per year? That's ridiculous. There are 11 Cedar Fair parks (12 if you count Gilroy Gardens) that could get a new coaster. I didn't count the waterparks. If Cedar Fair only built one coaster per year they would fall far behind Six Flags in park development. I don't thing they want to go there. Cedar Fair spends appox. 100 million per year on park expansions/new rides. If you split that up evenly among the parks it comes out to almost 7.7 million per park per year. Well we all know that doesn't happen. If you remove Gilroy Gardens and Wild Water Kingdom then that number grows to nearly 10 million per year per park. Valleyfair spent approx 3 million on route 76, (Money well spent IMO), and nearly 7 million for next years waterpark expansion. Even if they did spend say $30 million on a new 2016 coaster at CW and let's say they spend $20 million on a new 2016 coaster for Valleyfair that still leaves 50 million or 5.5 million per park for the remaining 9 parks (Again, I am not counting Gilroy Gardens or Wild Water Kingdom). So, again I say, so what! Let's CW build a new coaster. That does not mean Valleyfair won't get theirs. That's just my humble opinion so I don't think you need to crush other peoples wish list/hopes/dreams or whatever. If CW gets a new coater, GREAT! That's great news for Cedar Fair! But Valleyfair has waited patiently for long enough, it's time we get a major new coaster in 2016. As for the $100 dollar bet, Is that U.S dollars or Canadien dollars? I'd say take that money and buy yourself a platnium pass so you can visit both CW and Valleyfair in 2016 to ride both of Cedar Fairs new coasters Oh, by the way, I have not forgotten about a new hint! Keep checking! -

Absolutely stunning day today at the park. Riptide was running with full water fountains. The Wave was also running today. It's September 28th People! Just confirmed today from Mr. Frazier that the Subway along with the dining patio is gone! The game booths on the right, gone! The bathroom on the corner by Wild Mouse, gone. All to make way for the Soak City expansion! RIP Bloodcreek Cemetary. Construction begins next week on the new slide tower. 90 feet almost straight down! That's in the top 15 world wide! Pretty Awesome O.K. People, had a great few hours at Valleyfair today. I was able to meet RCJunkie today and had a good time visiting with him! Mr. Frazier was very busy today so I only had about 15 to 20 min with him. I asked about the dollar amount of Soak City expansion. He said it was over 6 million. I asked about the splash pad area and why it wasn't something bigger. Mr. Frazier told me that the expansions that will be added next year will give them options for the next few years. He added that people have asked why they were adding more drop slides when they already have two. I asked him if VF plans to paint and freshen up the existing slides. Mr. Frazier just laughed and gave me an answer that suggested that the existing slide complex may be on the chopping block in the next few years and replaced with new. I really got that impression when he mentioned having options. So, let's break this down. Put in a big new expanded splash pad. This frees up the existing splash pad for a multi level jungle gym type of water play area like we all would like to see. Also, VF probably does not have plans to paint the existing slides because again in the next few years the plan looks to be to replace it. One last bit of very interesting information. We were talking about Cedar Fairs comments on Valleyfair being a top growth park. Of course he can't say much but it sounds like corporate is please with Valleyfair's performance despite the floods earlier in the year. He also said that if you had asked him what was coming to Valleyfair in 2016 he could have probably told you what was coming but he said that has now changed. What that exactly means is anybody's guess but we can speculate. That's all I can remember right now. I'll post more later and I still owe another hint from rumors that I have heard for 2016. -

Hey, I just looked up this info. According to water slide data base, when Valleyfair's new 90' drop slides open in 2015 they will be tied for the 13th tallest waterslide in the world!!! If only we could stretch it a bit we could make the top 10! HaHa! -

The art work for the splash pad doesn't fit with the description. That area is about 1 acre. To put that into perspective. the avearage suburbon lot is about 1/3 of an acre, so put 3 of them together. The drawing shows something that's only about 20 to 30 feet wide and long. I still think we will see improvements to the existing Soak City infrastructure for next year. I'll try to get more infor when I meet with Mr. Frazier. -

I just confirmed, I will be meeting Mr. Frazier on September 27th! I asked about some of your concerns and he just said we will talk then By the way did you know that the current panic falls is only 35 ft. tall according the VF's website. The new drop slides are 90 ft. tall. That's nearly as tall as Excalibur or Renegade. There's a thought to chew on! -

I disagree with Valleyfair going cheap! Since when is adding two new waterpark additions cheap. Most of the time they add only one thing at a time. Name another water park expansion that is adding two new major addition. Canada's Wonderland maybe but it there any others? -

Amen to that brother! Look, this is what they are adding new this year. This is only a concept drawing at this point. We won't really know what the slide tower will consist of entirely until we see it. As for the kids area I actually think it's pretty good. Some of the kids play area's I've seen can get way to out of hand and after a couple of seasons a lot of the sprays and water feature's etc. don't work anymore. Plus it looks like they will be able to add a lot more lounge seating. If I look at this right it looks like the entrance is going to be moved to between the two new additions freeing up space for something where the old entrance path was. We also need to remember that over the off season last year Valleyfair added a lot of new things and really spruced the park up all which was not officially announced. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they made some big changes to the existing slides we now have. They don't have to tell us everything they are doing. They just told us what was new. I still think they have more plans for Soak City down the road. From what I can see in the drawing. I'm guessing that just the new additions are going to cost somewhere between 9 and 10 million. As a reference, Route 76 was in the 3 million range. So take that with I'm sure another 1 to 3 million in other improvements and I think Valleyfair did a pretty good job. Besides we need to remember it's Cedar Fair that makes the final decisions, not Valleyfair! I am going to be meeting with Mr. Frazier again in the next few weeks. I'll try to get some more information to share with you about what coming for 2015 and beyond! THIS IS GOOD PEOPLE! This expansion will probably bring a jump of 20 to 30 percent in attendance. Soak City at Valleyfair was soooo far behind that it may take 2 or 3 expansions to get it to where it should be but for now let's enjoy what we have. One other thing CaptainUnknown, please don't ever compare Mt. Olympus to Valleyfair! That park is absolutely pathetic. The only good thing it has going for is Poseiden's Rage. I would choose Valleyfair every time! -

Well tomorrow's the day. I recently went on an aqualoop at Wilderness resort in the dells area and it was amazing! Very fun slide! It would be awesome if they got one! I have a feeling that VF worked with a slide company to get a total package price. Adding one new element at a time is one price but if you package a lot elements together you can get better pricing. 1.5 million for an aqualoop is expensive but lets say VF is adding 15 to 20 million in waterpark improvements, the slide company may very well throw in an aqualoop at no extra cost. they would just add it to an existing tower. Anyway we shall soon see! Valleyfair has been doing a good job IMO on upkeep of the park. Mr. Frazier is well aware of the parking lot situation and told me last time I was there that they were looking at working with a local business to make some improvents to the parking lot. Also, High Roller gets painted every two years so next year it should have a new paint job. I agree with wild thing and also Steel Venom really need a new paint job. Wild Thing's station should also be updated.
