Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
Password121 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I feel like this thread just repeats itself every month or so, with identical discussions resulting in identical answers/complaints every single time. To answer your question, you can read the last 50 pages or so since last fall. To sum it up, we'll find out soon enough, but probably not in 2016. Don't expect anything on the scale of Gatekeeper, Banshee or Fury, if/when a new B&M coaster is built at Valleyfair. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Password121 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Yeah, and this has been evidenced all of one time in the last ten years. Must be a trend. I don't see a new coaster at Kings Island until at least 2018, more likely 2019/20. There are other parks that are probably greater priorities. -
I think if you had visited on a better day and had experience with the park before the improvements, you'd realize how far they've gone in the last few years. Yes, Wild One could use a paint job--rumors are this could happen--and much more--for its 100th in 2017/2018. What you should understand is that for a park that probably doesn't get a sizable budget for offseason improvements, in the last 5 years or so they've repainted Mind Eraser, Superman, Batwing, Joker's Jinx, and Apocalypse (for the re-theme). To put this into perspective, look at parks like Great Adventure. I love that park to death, but all of their steel coasters look like crap, and Rolling Thunder was worse than Wild One when it was scrapped (side note--Wild One is one of the last remaining classic wooden coasters in the chain that runs decently). As for landscaping/in park improvements... you must not remember the infamous Southwest Territory. That section was in my mind the worst themed section of any major amusement park I'm aware of. They took this sketchy POS area and made it into possibly the best themed area in the park (along with Coyote Creek) with the best variety of rides in the park. Starting next month they'll have opened up that dead end into Gotham City (under Wild One) and opened their first inverting flat ride in who knows how long (that's my way of saying "quit whining about the Super Loop"). They've also shown signs of improving landscaping as well, with a group of new trees/shrubs by the path between Superman and Batwing. The food selection is slowly but steadily improving with new selections in Mardi Gras. I apologize for the long post, but I think you guys need to recognize the bad hand of cards SFA was dealt over the years, and how nicely they've done what they're able to do. For a park that got the shaft every announcement season from 2002-2011, I don't think the park has done poorly at all. A true new coaster (or I-box of Roar) will come eventually, when management sees this park is worthy of major capital, but until then--try to appreciate the improvements that have been made instead of bashing the loose ends that aren't that big of a deal.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

I-305 was built in 2010--2016 would be six years separated. As for the entrance, Kings Dominion has a decent entrance as it is. It looks much nicer than Kings Island's brown wall with ticket booths. I would imagine KI is a top priority for a new entrance with their next coaster, if they choose to go that route. Also, who says a new coaster near the front if the park means a new entrance? You could redo the entrance plaza in a similar fashion to Fury with the tunnel, but leave the actual gates intact. As for the new coaster itself, we have to remember that numerous Cedar Fair parks are rumored for new coasters in 2016/17. Cedar Point next year for sure, along with Canadas Wonderland, and even Valleyfair, Worlds of Fun, and even Michigans Adventure. And dare I say Dorney at some point? -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Dragster and Maverick are very temperamental rides that break down very frequently mid-summer. I don't think it should be huge surprise they had issues opening day--just unfortunate they had issues at the same time. Wicked Twister, from my experience, is a little more reliable, but this sounds like a rare occurrence. Kings Island didnt have Invertigo running opening day, or the following couple weeks. They also don't have a 120 mph launch coaster or a difficult multi launcher like Maverick. Not really a comparison. -
^Youre assuming the park puts a self imposed restriction on its construction timeline, which is absolutely false. No, it's a chane wide marketing technique to open rides around Memorial Day to increase interest in the new rides when the crowds pick up. Nothing new, nothing "Six Flags America" exclusive.

^Oh I absolutely agree--since you've been looking forward to this trip as long as you have, definitely splurge for Fast Lane Plus once you get there. I was just pointing out that Cedar Point, unlike many other regional American parks, is not impossible to enjoy without coughing up hundreds to skip the line. I've used Fast Lane previously at this park, and for the day I went it was well worth it. Enjoy 10 minute waits for Millennium Force! Some great times ahead of you. -

Cedar Point is absolutely doable without Fast Lane if you choose your dates wisely, get lucky with the weather, and stay at least two days. This is what I did last August--2.5 day trip (Sunday evening through Tuesday afternoon), some scattered showers mixed in, and utilizing the Marina gate for early entry. Outside of Dragster once, I never waited more than an hour for a ride. Although I originally planned on Fast Lane for the Monday, I took a risk with the crappy weather, saved almost $300 for the group of three, and managed about eight laps on MF, about five each on Maverick, Gatekeeper, and Raptor, and a few each on Dragster, Magnum, and Wicked Twister. It can be done. Oh, if you're going to try without Fast Lane--throw $10 at Gatekeeper plinko. Skipped Maverick's and Dragster's two hour lines in the evening multiple times. Well worth it. -

I think it's a win-win for both parks and Virginia tourism in general. The nerd in me has to point out--that bit about I305 is a stretch, as it's actually the shortest and slowest Giga coaster -

^What? If you want to find more info about the Flash Pass, I think you can navigate the SF site for yourself. I don't need to do that for you. https://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica -

If its your first time, be prepared for a 2+ hour wait on Goliath, totally worth the wait though! It is. Is there any sort of fast lane system there? I would definitely be interested. You already asked this and received answers in the Six Flags Great Anerica thread. See here... Although Cedar Point's rain policy is pathetic, a little rain early in the day isn't the worst thing in my experience. Of course you want to get as much done during early entry (SUCH a help without FL), but with 30 min spotty showers in my 2.5 day visit last August, I was able to get re-rides on everything without Fast Lane any of the days. The rain could scare away enough crowds that you make up the lost riding time with lower crowds. Just plan your rides for Dragster and Maverick at off peak times, and you should have a great time with tons of riding. Oh, and again--get in line for Millennium Force at closing at least once. Last train, last row... Indescribable. Like you, El Toro is my favorite roller coaster, but MF--hauling ass at midnight--is something special. Have a great time. -

I'm just going to put this out there right now before this speculation goes any further... No chance in hell B&M will build a 500 foot tall dive coaster. It's been three years since they agreed to top 300 ft, and they aren't going to be the first to top the *still to this day* mechanical nightmares of Intamin's 400 foot rocket coasters. Yes, I understand they are *completely* different technologies, but a 500 foot lift won't only not be built, but the lift/pull out/Immelmann combination will not fit in this space. It's a big space, but not nearly the plot some are making it out to be. For a dive coaster, I'd say 250 ft tops. And that's okay--how do you expect this coaster to be within budget at 500 feet tall? -
Hey, if they have the extra budget, I'm all for it. A Larson super loop may not be the most exciting ride, but they do seem to be doing some nice park improvements to go along with it. They could have easily just plopped down the ride in front of Wild One, but instead they eliminated the dead end into Mardi Gras. On top of this--landscaping between Superman/Batwing, new restaurant, fixed Joker's Jinx support fairly quickly, and now removing the last bits of an eyesore. Not a bad "off" year at all, IMO, and I always welcome more rides to keep people entertained and potentially staying in the park longer, which is exactly what the new ride will do.
