The official NFL Discussion Thread

I still think his offense will look a little different in the NFL, it has to. Defensive ends in the NFL are just too athletic to run traditional read options against, same thing for the corner backs against a lot of the screens Oregon used run. The similarities will probably be in the tempo and the speed of the offense not necessarily the plays themselves. I'm excited to watch it, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Tebow wound up in Philly. -

So where will the Tim Tebow circus pull into town next? Personally I don't love or hate Tim Tebow (though most people seem to be one one side of the fence or the other) but he does bring a little something "extra" to the game when he's on the field. I realize he's not what a GM is looking for as far as a franchise QB option so they're all afraid to put their jobs on the line for him, but if you're going to be bad at least be interesting. I'd love to see someone give him the reigns for a year or 2 and let him sink or swim (Jacksonville), win or lose at least they will be interesting to watch. -

^^^ For any non-rednecks in the forum George Jones was a notorious drunk who drove his lawnmower to town on more than one occasion to procure more alcohol. Legendary. Ole Possum -

^That's the funny thing is that his neck never was an issue! He has some sort of condition that if aggravated could be an issue but he never missed a game at Georgia, and was pretty darn good when he played. There's a reason some franchises are good for decades and some struggle to stay relevant. Those SEC numbers are pretty amazing, the amount of talent coming out of that conference right now is out of this world. Yeah there are probably a few guys here and there who get drafted just because they play for Alabama or LSU but as a whole that conference is just on a different level. I'd love to see a statistic this time next year that show how many of those drafted actually make a roster. I would expect the percentage to be similar but ya never know. -

^^^I was very surprised at the trade for Manuel, it was a good move by Buffalo to trade down but I'll be shocked if Manuel is a successful NFL quarterback. To me he was just marginally impressive in the ACC and they lost a lot of games to teams they shouldn't have lost to with their talent. I know it's not all on Manuel but franchise QB's win those kind of games. Barkley to the Eagles was an interesting pick but as a late round selection there isn't a lot of risk involved. I have a feeling Chip Kelly's offense in the NFL will look a little different than it did at Oregon so a guy like Barkley might be exactly what they're looking for. That team will be one of the most interesting stories this NFL season. It's amazing how some of the great franchises manage to always make good draft picks. Sometimes I think teams way over analyze every little detail leading up to the draft. In my opinion there's no way Jarvis Jones should have fallen behind Dion Jordan or Ziggy Ansah. I know he had a slow 40 time, and has some injury issues but that guy was the best player on the field last year every game he played. He had 28 sacks in 2 years in the SEC, where as Dion Jordan only had 14 sacks in 4 years! Don't be surprised if Jones turns out to be rookie of the year in Pittsburgh. I was shocked that Eddie Lacy fell to The Packers find Eddie Lacy in the second round, but a great pickup for the Packers. Another case of teams maybe over analyzing his combine numbers. At Alabama that guy ran away from defenders who were getting drafted in the first round from LSU, Miss. State, and Georgia, I think he'll be okay in the League. I was happy to see the 49ers find Marcus Lattimore in the 5th round, that guy deserves another shot and San Fran is a great fit. Pretty crazy that the Giants draft Jonathan Hankins and Demontrae Moore in later rounds, like their front 7 needed any more help. -

^In his honor I intend to get drunk and drive my lawnmower around the neighborhood. (but seriously, he was an all time great and will be missed) -
^It's all completely 100% real, pictures taken directly from Coaching staff members twitter pages. Feel free to share amongst you Miami friends prior September 7th.

Okay seriously what the hell is going on with Florida and their coaching staff twitter accoutns? It's like Muschamp discovered Photoshop in the off-season and told his staff to run wild with it.... This is from QBs coach Brent Pease, and it said "Florida QB's have the Drive and the Desire" and this Gem And wr's coach Joker Phillips.. #Come play for the joker "Only Gators get out alive" And here is some kind of weird drag racing instagram thing from the running backs coach and soem kind of weird energy drink thing....http://instagram.com/p/YZyCyICvnf/ I get that kids use twitter, let's market to the recruits through social media and all, but come on. This is years worth or bulletin board material...

^Yeah, I don't know about a bunch of flat rides but I still like the idea of a small Midway Mania style shooting dark ride on an interior deck of a ship. Disney might be the only line that could pull it off but I could see it working. (Also, the possible themes for a shooting dark ride on a Carnival Cruise ship could be amazing. Would make a graet Photoshop contest)

^^ Yeah, I agree that a new coaster makes a lot or more sense in this situation but relocating a ride the company already owns isn't the craziest idea I've ever heard. I guess if they were to build a new wooden coaster they might be able to reuse a majority of the existing controls, lift motors, and other hardware not associated with the structure.
-
Maybe someone here can verify this but I was kind of under the impression that when you relocate a wooden coaster the majority of the track gets completely redone anyways and basically all you move is the support structure bents. So if GCI were to completely re-do track with relatively new Flyer trains in a park with a temperate climate and seasonal operation this rumor is fairly feasible. Also, thenatically I think we're seriously under estimating the potential for dueling racing coaster in a European themed park..... (Insert stereotype joke here)
-
^That sounds like a great idea to me, not sure what a Panda themed dark ride would be like but after Antartica opens we might hav ea better idea of the possibilities. I've got a feeling they won't completely remove Gwazi unless they have a huge expansion like this planned. I'll throw another Asian themed ride idea into the mix, I've always thought that Disney should remove the Jungle Cruise from Magic Kingdom and open an all new totally awesome Jungle Cruise ride in Animal Kingdom with a mixture of animatronic scenes and real animals. Why not attempt a similar ride at Busch Gardens? A boat ride of some sorts through Asian animal enclosures could be really cool and probably more cost effective as an animal encounter ride than Rhino Rally was. Was Akbar's the same technology as Wild Arctic at Seaworld? I never had a chance to ride it either.

^Thanks, it was pretty good! I wasn't a huge fish fan growing up (kinda of hard to get fresh mahi in KY) but with the fish selection in Florida I almost prefer grilled (or blackened) mahi or snapper over a steak these days. I don't get around to fishing too often but grilling up some freshly caught redfish is about as good as it gets ^^^Good luck with the pork butt. The best advice I can give if you've never done one before if don't worry about the timing and don't follow any minutes per pound equation, just cook it until it's done ( I like to cook mine to 195-200 internal). I also like to take mine off the grill when it reaches temperature and wrap it in foil (maybe with a little sauce or butter) then stick it in a cooler to rest for a 30 minutes up to a couple of hours. It should stay right around that 195 temp in the cooler but resting it like that should make the meat very easy to pull and shred after you remove it. Have fun!

^^^Looks great man, would love to hear how it turned out! Hope your enjoying the Egg, I personally would never buy a small but if I won one at a charity event like you did I'm sure I'd find some uses for it. I bet it's great for steaks and burgers since you can get the meat closer to the hot coals and you can likely obtain the same temperatures of a large (700-800 degrees) with less charcoal. I could see the small being great to take with you to a tailgate or a picnic or something as well. I haven't been cooking much lately but with spring time in the air it's grilling season so some updates shall be here soon. I did cook some beef ribs that turned out great a few weeks ago, and I've been experimenting with cooking on my cast iron skillet in the egg which has worked really well (made the best burger I've ever made with that technique). One of these days I want to buy a large wok that fits in the egg and do some high temperature sir-fry. Here are a few pictures of some of the stuff I've done recently. Smoked beef Ribs Smoked beef ribs, the world's most underrated rib! Really great flavor from a basic salt n pepper rub but getting the meat to the proper tenderness is a bit tricky. Publix has these things on sale for cheap all the time so I've added them to my regular rotation whenever a sale pops up. It's hard to tell from the picture but these things are BIG, each bone is probably about 6-8 inches long (that's what she said) and a half rack alone easily feeds two with leftovers. Swordfish and Shrimp Skewers Swordfish and shrimp skewers. Again I started playing around with cooking in my cat iron skillet on the Egg. I love cooking in a cast iron skillet but it will smoke like crazy and set your smoke alarm off in a heartbeat so taking the technique outside to the Egg was perfect (and the egg gets way hotter than my stove top ever could). I seared the fillets on the grate first to get the nice grill marks then tossed them in the skillet with some melted butter to finish them off. I tried to get creative with the skewering of the shrimp which looked kinda cool but was mostly a waste of time. Mahi Squash and Zucchini Again cooked some mahi-mahi fillets in the skillet and they turned out pretty well. Grilled up some squash and zucchini to go with it which has slowly turned into one of my favorite sides. I had an awesome dish at a great restaurant in NYC a few months ago (insert shameless plug for Maysville Bourbon+Food that I've been dying to try on the egg, so I'm hoping to attempt a smoke braised pork belly some time in the next couple of weeks. Also, with Derby season around the corner I'm sure there will be meat cooked over fire and a report to follow.

MTV Developing Theme Park Drama
Hilltopper39 replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Having worked several years in theme parks I've always thought that this subject was ripe for a really good comedic series or movie. I liked Adventureland but it was a lot different than I was expecting and I felt that it could of been a lot funnier. Interesting development I'll have to watch out for. -
"Out of Fashion" Ride Styles
Hilltopper39 replied to josephcissell's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ You win..... Let me rephrase my statement, I'd love to see a company like Rocky Mountain or Mack or Gerstlauer take a swing at a mine train concept... that doesn't cost $100 million dollars. -
"Out of Fashion" Ride Styles
Hilltopper39 replied to josephcissell's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I always loved Arrow Mine trains for their multiple lifts, unique themeing (to whatever extent it was), sprawling layouts, and lengthy ride cycles even though the rides themselves really weren't all that exciting. With that being said I'd love to see a company like Rocky Mountain or even Gerstlauer or Mack take a swing at an old school mine train concept. Seems like there is a niche there for something more exciting than an old school mine train but less thrilling than Outlaw Run or a Euro Fighter that could really work for a lot of parks. Also, I wonder if Rocky Mountain would ever consider "iron horsing" an old school Arrow Mine train? I don't know how much that would improve the overall ride experience but it couldn't make it any worse. A few air time hills here and there, over bank some turns, maybe even extend some existing layouts, could be a great way to revamp some existing attractions. -
Build It And They Will . . . Forget.
Hilltopper39 replied to GrapesLie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here are a couple for me. Backlot Italian Stunt Coaster Job at Kings Island (probably KD and PCW also). Even though it was a major attraction when it was built I was never very impressed with it probably haven't ridden it since opening year, kind of forget it's there half the time I'm at the park. Mystery Mine at Dollywood. Even though it looks great and is a pretty fun ride overall between Thunderhead, Wild Eagle, and Tennessee Tornado I find myself forgetting Mystery Mine is there. It's still a great little attraction that I'm sure is a fan favorite for a lot of people, but it's usually low on my list when I visit. Legend at Holiday World. I love the Raven, and like the Voyage quite a bit if it isn't trying to kill me, so between those two Top 10 coasters I usually forget that Legend is even there. Soarin at Epcot is another one. It's a fun little ride but I don't get much out of it, so unless I'm visiting with friends who have never experienced it I don't ever venture that way. -
Looks awesome! There is an "upscale" bowling alley here in Jax that has been open for a few years called Latitude 30 that is very very similar to this. I've never had the chance to really get a lane and fully experience it because the place is always PACKED, I mean 4 hour wait for a lane on a Wednesday night kind of crowd, and I'd expect this place to be very successful as well. Great update as always, I'll have to check it out next time I'm in town.

What is your non-theme park travel bucket list?
Hilltopper39 replied to disneyfan1313's topic in Random, Random, Random
Well since this thread is about non-park rleated bucket lists, and it is the first full week in April this picture is probably appropriate... One of these days I will be in attendance, I don't know how but I'll find tickets one of these days.
