Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
ZeroGravity55 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Here is the Holiblog that he's talking about: http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2014/08/12/middle-child/ As I've said before, I didn't find The Legend that bad at all this year. Yeah it had a few bad spots, but nothing that kept me from riding it again. Now take this with a grain of salt, but I do recall reading on the Holiwood Nights Facebook page from one of the people who attended the event this year saying that they talked to someone from HW and that The Legend will be receiving the most attention out of the three woodies this off-season. With that being said, yes, The Legend has been somewhat neglected the past few off-seasons. I'm not saying the park is giving it the Mt. Olympus treatment, but with The Voyage needing constant attention, sometimes they have to put off work that is needed on The Legend and Raven. My hope is that the park finally decides to purchase some topper track to put on the problem areas of The Voyage and narrow down the amount of work it needs every off-season. Hopefully, this will allow them to balance out the repairs of all three of the woodies and allow each coaster to get the attention each one needs. Btw, thanks for sharing that video of Will Koch and The Legend's announcement. The industry sure could use a few more like him. -
^^ It wasn't a hybrid, but if weather was an issue why didn't RMC get an earlier start on Goliath last year? RMC's crews are from Idaho, they can deal with the cold weather. With that being said, I hope that since they are getting started earlier, this means this ride will actually open earlier than most other new rides at Six Flags parks. I'll never forget raising the concern on construction of Goliath starting so late last year and that the ride might not open in time for the beginning of the season on the Great America thread. I got absolutely overwhelmed with responses like "that never happens at Great America, they get their rides opened on time". Goliath didn't open until the middle of June, so yeah I say this has more do with getting the ride completed on time and getting all hands on deck for Iron Colossus.

^ Trust me I know why it is free. I've done multiple price comparisons at work. I've dealt with both Pepsi and Coke reps and I'm still trying to convince my general manager (we serve Pepsi ) that the expensive prices are worth the better customer service Coke offers. Not to mention the overall better quality of the product.

Probably as soon as the concrete work is done. They're probably going to have to bring in a brand new crew to install the supports and track. This is was exactly my thought behind turning it into a single rider line. You know I get why the anti-rollbacks are there. They wouldn't be there if there wasn't at least a chance of the train stalling there (obviously), but I've never had a ride on The Legend where I've got to that portion of the ride and thought that it was even close to happening. -
Hotgo Park in Fushun China
ZeroGravity55 replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So I remember reading on TGG's website that at least two of these coasters they're designing for China are supposed to have an inversion. Does anybody know which one or if any of them will have inversions at all? Just curious to see how TGG's designs them into the their newer layouts and how it differentiates from the layouts of the RMC looping woodies. -
Holiday World I'll skip 2015 since Thunderbird has already been announced. 2016: Switch from free Pepsi products to free Coca-Cola products. 2017: Announce new microsite, "132daysatsea.com" to build speculation for next years new ride. 2018: B&M family inverted coaster! Billed as the worlds best family coaster! The park sits back and laughs at all the hilarious overreactions from all the coaster enthusiasts after their disappointment in the new coaster, especially after hyping the ride for 132 days. 2019: The Voyage 360! The Gravity Group finally gets Timberliners on The Voyage! The park and TGG celebrate nearly 10 years of waiting and testing by re-profiling a portion of a ride to add an inversion! 2020: Proslide and Holiday World team together to bring you the worlds first hydromagnetic looping water coaster! Just so you know, I'm serious about 2016. Like seriously, they wouldn't have to build any new attraction to get me to buy a ticket if that ever happens. Oh and the rest of this is all sarcasm

I'm sure if you switched the situation and this was The Voyage we're talking about and not The Legend, they would have probably moved the train. I am curious to know if they pushed the stalled train down the hill and let it complete the course or how they removed it from the tracks if it stalled on that anti-rollback. While were on the subject of trains, I had a couple of thoughts about the Voyage using 6 cars instead of 7. First, it also is very good for maintenance as they can rotate the trains in and out, seeing they have two extra cars. This will allow them to keep each car in top form throughout the season. Next, I wonder if they will consider turning the line for the 7th car into a single rider line to help with capacity in some way? They might as well get some use out of it. Plus, they lost four riders per train and a single rider line might help them keep the train running at full capacity at all times. They would have to redo that end of the queue either way if The Voyage will no longer use 7 cars. They just need one gate for a single ride line, not two. -

Not PTC's. There is nothing electrical inside of them. The train will pass through sensors, but there are no sensors on the train itself. Now it is my understanding that there are gauges on these wooden coaster trains that have to be set accordingly for the train to deliver the perfect ride. Wood can contrast and expand depending on how much moisture there is. So if it has rained a lot, that gauge is going to be opened up to allow the train to fly through the course. If it has been dry, that gauge is going to be closed or tightened to keep the train from bouncing around the track and allowing for a more comfortable ride. I believe when they were testing the Timberliners, they were running with an open gauge at all times, which was part of the reason the ride had gotten so rough between 2010-2011. Now my guess with The Legend is that the trains gauge wasn't either set right or something or wasn't staying set, and that is why it stalled going up that hill for the turnaround. Now I'm guessing that the trains have been sent to PTC or HW is waiting to have PTC come investigate the problem. They are obviously not safe to run or they would be on the track. Safety is the number one priority. I'm actually surprised that they didn't consider (maybe they did) moving a Raven train over like they did for The Voyage in 2010. The Raven has a much better one train operation capacity than The Legend does, or at least one would assume. -
Track Spottings!
ZeroGravity55 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Agreed, I thought the track hadn't come out for Efteling yet, and there was just dark orange track. No that red and orange are not similar at all. From all the pics of track we have at HW already, none if it has those straight rail ties that looked completely different from any other track B&M has already done. Remember, the red track may have shipped in last month and could still be on a ship somewhere. -

^^ It's Six Flags, the track could be there and they still wouldn't start construction until October. -

^ He's talking about the teal flyer track, not the darker teal/neon green track. -

^^Two dive coasters, two flyer/inverts, one winged coaster and one Giga. Yes the Carowinds coaster is going to be a B&M. Does that really look like an Intamin design based on the layout? So in total, six coasters for B&M this coming year. -

If anybody wanted to see the launched track section, here it is at the B&M plant waiting to be shipped. It is next to the container. -

New pictures from the B&M plant brought to us via Screamscape. Just some quick observations. There is some teal track loaded on the a flat bed trailer, thay typically means it is being shipped within North America. There is new teal track with a neon yellow spine that has shown up. Of course HW's orange is all over the yard. The red, yellow and white are completely gone. LSM launch track on that trailer next to the container. -

Sounds like the train's gauge was having some type of issue. Glad they have anti-roll backs there. -

^ It was like that in June as well. I'm guessing the train needed some major overhaul or something. Very weird it has been gone all season. -

That was me. Honestly the only thing the 7th car does is make the back seat a tad bit wilder ride. She said they were keeping it off so there would be less wear and tear on the track. If it keeps The Voyage running smoother, I'm all for it. -

^ Wouldn't surprise me one bit at Six Flags. I could honestly see Six Flags taking the phrase "but first, let me take a selfie" and plastering it all over their merchandise, kinda like they did with YOLO... Wow, the last week of July? Schools in Illinois still have two more weeks before they go back. Then again, that speaks volume to our crappy education system in this state. Wrong place, wrong topic though. Didn't you visit on a Friday and Saturday? If so, I'm not surprised it was busy. -

^ Blame it on the schools starting back earlier. That is what happens when your average employee age runs from 14-22 years old. Good new is, schools starting back earlier means that parks like HW are opening earlier. I believe HW is opening in April for the first time in their 68 year history next season. Granted, it is only a week earlier then when they normally open. -

I thought it was pretty cool, probably because I'm younger. I do worry that this could become an encouraged trend at Six Flags parks though... YOLO! I promise that was sarcasm If they put one on Mammoth and Wildebeest, you would hope they would put one on Thunderbird. Just a few random thoughts that I've had the past few days. First off, I'm curious to see what the attendance numbers are going to look like for HW this year. I imagine they are down industry wide, the weather hasn't been very kind to parks like HW who count on the high temps to draw people into the water park. I live about two hours away and I've counted at least two and half weeks where the temps were in high 70's to low 80's in July. Not very ideal to be visiting waterparks. Second off, HW's daily operation ends next week on either Tuesday or Wednesday. For as long those 66 days felt like they dragged on, this summer seems like it has went by really fast. Last but not least, I don't know if Paula can answer this, but I'm curious to know when we're going to see the supports and track go vertical. Hopefully it will be soon! -

^ The tack probably needs to be greased. ^^ That is why I pack my own drinks in a cooler when I visit Six Flags parks. I'll gladly make 4 or 5 trips out to my own vechile if that means I don't go bankrupt while visiting an amusement park. -

^ They have Pepsi Oasis buildings strategically placeed throughout both parks and in all food places. Best way of describing how the process works is it's like a buffet of drinks. You serve yourself and get as much as you please. Checkout the park map, you'll get an idea of where they are all located.
