Thanks. I'll give it another look. I looked at it a few years ago. -
The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
Brent York replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Two reasons: 1. And this is really the main reason - I personally find "counting coasters" to be pointless and stupid and even though I used to do it at one point, I would like to start encouraging more people NOT to do it, because it's just making people look like entitled assholes instead of having fun at parks, which is the point. 2. Do you remember when you'd get something like a "VHS/DVD Combo Player" and it wouldn't be a very good DVD player or a very good VHS player? I've always felt that you should stick to doing one thing, focus on it, and make it great. So really, the answer to your question "Why isn't it also a coaster counter" is "Because it's not a coaster counter." I can understand if someone thinks counting kiddie coasters for a number is stupid, but for me, it's fun to just to be able to look back at all the coasters I've ridden. So your coaster number at coastercounter.com isn't up to date then? Anyway, point understood. I was always one who told people not to buy those VHS/DVD players. Or the VHS/TV combos. -

This is awesome, but I'm wondering why you didn't go ahead and make it also serve as a coaster counter, since the structure is already there? coastercounter.com has several issues, with both the site and data, and the owner doesn't have any interest in fixing them (and is also hard to get a response from). I'm waiting for the day it just goes offline. I've looked at coaster-count.com in the past, but the design was awkward. I'm sure TPR could do a better job. Mitch's has been greatly missed. Looking forward to the poll. Thanks! -

What kind of timeframe would you guess for this will open? I'm thinking about a fall Vegas trip. I'm sure building anything in AD is slower process than normal. -

Banshee vs. Montu: IMO, Banshee wins, no contest. Heads up by the way, don't go from 8/7 to 9/1. Wonder if that means it's finally getting painted? And yes, I'd like that job too. I really hope this guy gets what he deserves: http://www.tampabay.com/news/courts/criminal/man-accused-in-killing-of-pinky-busch-gardens-flamingo-found-incompetent/2313603 -
To me, Adventureland was a really nice looking park with lots of grass and tress (and water), which does make it more spread out, requiring some walking. Employees were friendly, especially the woman pushing 80 running Outlaw. Outlaw and Tornado are both great. "Dragon – This is a decent..." I never thought I'd read "decent' in the same sentence as Dragon. That thing is bru-tal. Como Town's Tiger Trax seems to be a new install, made by SBF Visa, vs. a standard hand-me-down relocated Galaxi. Pretty nice considering when I went a few years ago, all they had was an Orient Express (in the same location). I wonder what Tiger Trax cost them. I often see the zoo near/at Como Town in lists of top zoos in the country. Unfortunately I didn't know that back when I stopped by for the coaster credit. NU/MoA is a blast to just look at. It's like your own real life RCT. Too bad there aren't more "NU/MoA's" around. Valleyfair isn't a "bad" park, but (IMO) it and Michigan's Adventure are the worst in the chain, and I don't care to go back unless they add something significant. Michigan's Adventure does have the best coaster among the two, with Shivering Timbers, but really has nothing else. It's been a few years since I went to VF, but Wild Thing, like it's sisters, looks fun but is about half as thrilling as it looks. Seems like Renegade was rough and nothing special (as I can't even remember much about it). I'd say Prowler is easily much better (and actually one of my favorites). And Excalibur definitely isn't, although I'd hate to see any Arrow get torn down (and I'm sure this is a great step-up coaster for kids). The Intamin Impulse coasters (ie. Steel Venom) are fun the first few times you ride them, but get old fairly quick. The only other thing I remember about Valleyfair is the crowd was pretty scary, and someone in line trying to start a fight with me (can't even remember why) when I'd done nothing, and I remember lots of smokers walking around in no-smoking areas. Legend at Arnold's Park was very rough a few years ago. The frozen chocolate-covered bananas in the park were selling like hotcakes, so we got some (good stuff). Funny, there was a car show when I went then too. The lake was packed with boats. And around the whole town, there were motorcycles *everywhere*.

Except a one day visit makes plenty of sense for many people. And seasons passes don't make sense for a lot of people. Do you work for the park? -

DW is nice but I agree that IMO it's overpriced (perhaps purposely). Admission is $74 with taxes/fees for an adult, or $86 with parking (parking fees are just another part of the admission cost). And this doesn't include the water park. There's just not enough there, IMO, for $74/$86. But obviously they can get away with it since it's usually very crowded. Tourists are already in the area, so they're going to go to DW regardless of price (up to a point of course). Holiday World is $45 and includes the themepark and waterpark, plus free parking, soft drinks, and sunscreen. Even Cedar Point is only $52.79 with tax/fee right now (plus $15/$18 parking). Heck, even the expensive/overpriced Disney World ends up $86.53 per day with tax if you buy a 4 day ticket, but that includes going to a separate themepark each day. Plus $20/day parking. Seaworld Orlando's one day ticket is only $5 more than Dollywood. And Seaworld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa's two-park ticket is the same price as Dollywood's; both $99. And SWO/BGT's gives you four parks to choose from (two themeparks, two water parks). Or a three day/park ticket is only $109. -

Even after LR had been open for a few days, DW's TV commerical for LR was still saying "Peeling out soon at DW.". Now (even as of this morning) that LR is closed, the commercial has changed to say "NOW OPEN!". -

Love the train front. Brick station walls (fake or not) are a nice touch too. Adventureland deserves this. If you overlook Dragon, it's a very nice, clean "little" park, with some of the nicest employees I've come across. Outlaw is a really good hidden gem too, IMO. -
I stopped by yesterday on my way through probably around 3:00. I haven't been since the SFKK days so was going to get my rides on LR and SC but the parking lot was full and I didn't have a lot of time so didn't bother as I had a long way to go. From other reports of short waits for SC, maybe I should have. But I know SC had 3 trains running. How long were lines on LR or Thunder Run? I also noticed even at that time, the season's pass line was probably 100+ people long. Rant: Wow the crotchety older woman at the parking booth was extremely rude. Unfortunately they work for the KFEC, not KK. I've always hated the whole set up (KFEC,shared parking, giant loop around the EC,park cut in two by said loop, height restrictions, waterpark in the middle of amusement park), but sure, it's better than a SBNO park.

Nope, it's an intamin. Built by B and M (the people) for Intamin, while working for Giovanola. I think. Well, Giovanola was just a subcontractor. This coaster was manufactured before B&M existed as it became a company when Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard decided to leave Giovanola in 1987 and create B&M the following year. They then built their first coaster in 1990 which was Iron Wolf at ix flags Great America (now Apocalypse at Six Flags America since 2012). But, the coaster is labeled as being manufactured by Intamin, primarily because of the awkward/different restraint design used on the trains. But, yes, it was manufactured by the same people who had previously worked for Giovanola. I don't think that contradicts what I said, but my point was although it wasn't built by "B&M", the company, it was (likely) built by B. and M., the two men.
