  1. Track is being lifted into place at the far end by the dive loop and lift.
  2. Here's a little comparison of the station's exterior from when Wolf was there till just a few days ago from the Goliath insider video to see the progress made... Photo by Coaster Image
  3. And there's the confirmation of an additional fee required for Hurricane Harbor this year for non-pass holders. Although, we already knew that because of the updated FAQ on the new site.
  4. I don't think it did much damage, if any at all to the park. It was coming down really hard here in Rockford earlier though. It looks like another piece of the lift is in place right now. Update: They have updated the map for the 2014 season with Goliath on it... https://www.sixflags.com/sites/default/files/sfgam_fullmap.pdf
  5. I agree that Viper and Demon both have fantastic drops. They're equally as challenging as Raging Bull's first drop. To add to the comments on the previous page comparing hypers, I've been on 2 B&M hypers and 1 Arrow and I love all three. I actually prefer Diamondback's first drop over Bull's but I like the 2nd half of Bull more than Diamondback.
  6. ^That's actually the first track pieces to be placed on the dive loop. The next few weeks we should see quite a bit of action!
  7. This looks amazing! It's like a mix between Outlaw Run and Goliath but even more features. It looks like a top 3 wooden coaster to me! I doubt I'll have a chance to get to Europe any time soon. Maybe 40 years down the road when I'm nearing 60. That's okay though, the topper track should still be in good shape at that time. Seriously, it looks great though and I'm glad our European friends are getting an RMC to enjoy.
  8. Cool fly over video from RCDB's Duane Marden.
  9. Photo from Duane Marden of RCDB. Photo was taken earlier today during a construction tour.
  10. Six Flags St. Louis, even though they did just get Boomerang. The Great Escape and Darien Lake too.
  11. If Holiday World and Knoebels can afford it, why can't every park? People around here love to rag on the Voyage, but plenty of others disagree and HW does everything they can to keep it rideable. And that's not the only example of big wooden coasters that haven't turned to crap. You can't tell me I need to learn to love topper track until it's a more standard thing that lots of parks have invested in, which thus far is not the case. RMC can save broken-down mediocre rides that don't have particularly unique or exciting layouts to begin with. The Beast, Voyage, and certainly Hades do not need it. I'll agree that The Beast doesn't need it (one of maybe 3 wooden coasters I've been on that I feel the shakiness adds to the fun of the ride) but Hades could most definitely use topper track. Hades has a very aggressive layout that would tear up brand new wooden track in no time. A park like Mt. Olympus can't even maintain their coasters now so completely re-tracking Hades wouldn't do much good unless it was with topper track.
  12. Just out of curiosity, how much do those Zamperla spinning wild mouse coasters cost?
  13. Opa will be permanently removed from the park. Also, Mt Olympus said that, "Guest safety is a paramount goal at Mt. Olympus." I'll let that sink in for a moment. Read more here- http://www.wiscnews.com/baraboonewsrepublic/news/local/article_e9745da3-a833-5f39-ac46-cf596f3708a9.html
  14. From SFGAm's Facebook page... Anyone notice the date on the phone? April 28th, 1990? It's a special day in the park's (and B&M's) history. P.S. Happy April Fool's Day!
  15. It's obviously up to you but from someone who has been to the Dells dozens and dozens of times, I think you're better off just hanging around Six Flags Great America and the Chicago area unless you're stopping by there too. Downtown Dells has some nice shops along the strip but there's not a whole lot to do. If you're a water park person though, it's definitely worth a trip for Kalahari, Noah's Ark, and stuff. Timberfalls is also a decent little place with a nice log flume and wooden coaster. I do pray that man will be alright though.
  16. I guess that's basically what I was saying. I've been to 4 Disney parks and couple Six Flags parks and I know there's advertising at both. However, Disney makes their ads to either go along with the theme of whatever attraction the ads are placed on or integrates it well with the surrounding themed area. Six Flags just places ads wherever and can actually take away from a theme, if that's even possible at a Six Flags park. For example, Demon at SFGAm was covered in Stride ads not long ago (from the station to the trains) which ruined its theme but fortunately they took those down, or at least most of them. I just worded my original post on the previous page poorly when trying to get my point across.
  17. The difference between advertising at a Six Flags park (such as train wraps) and rides at a Disney park is that Disney's rides are themed after movies (or in some cases have inspired movies). I guess it is sort of advertising but at least Disney advertises their own products and franchises. Plus, Disney owns the Star Wars franchise so they can do whatever they want with that. I think what people are saying about advertising at Six Flags is that they'e advertising things such as Stride gum on trains or plastering ride stations with Axe and Got2Be ads like at Vertical Velocity's station. It's just a bit unsightly and has nothing to do with the rides themself. Whatever brings them money though.
  18. I would go with the 1st gen drop tower. Rode Demon Drop when it was at CP and thought the drop was pretty thrilling. Little painful landing though.
  19. There's not an official timeline other than the ride opening May 24th. I would imagine the structure would be finished by the end of this month so testing for the ride can begin in early May.
  20. Nothing special about the Dells except some good water parks. The only coasters I enjoy there now (since the huge decline of Hades) are HellCat and Cyclops. Both are smaller and rough but pretty fun with great airtime. Nothing worth traveling long distances for though.
  21. Steel: Top Thrill Dragster Wood: Outlaw Run
  22. It also appears that it might be the same wooden structure for the bottom of the first drop too. The wooden bents for the bottom of the zero-G stall and first drop before the tunnel look connected.
  23. I think it's the wooden structure at the end of the zero-G stall that leads the track down into the tunnel.
