Transatlantic airline food for the picky eater
astroworldfan replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Ask Alvey
This is so my thread... I am really picky... and mostly not by choice.... Fly a Non US airline if you want decent food. But whatever you fly, bring something you can get by on if you dont like the meal. KLM still serves a good meal and free beer to wash it down.. I have 'heard' that you can order a diabetic meal even if you are not diabetic. Apparently this limits the amount of "junk" that ends up on your plate. But you know how reliable [the proverbial] "they" actually are Jerry -
So if we all did this... we could call a TPR get together a family reunion.. Jerry "Aspiring to be Alvey" Alvey

Six Flags Rants... This really deserves its own thread. I want a friggin lid. If I decide to buy anything other than a plastic refillable bottle, I get shafted on a lid. If I pay more than $2.50 for a drink, I should get a friggin lid. Please dont run an empty train. Opening weekend at SFFT, they ran 3 trains on Superman but only filled two The line was at least 20 minutes. Keep in mind they still had to go check all empty seat restraints anyway. This happened for most of the morning. Also on a Scream (They consistently launch 1-2 empty seats.) and not all parks have an single rider queue. I will say SFOT was much better at this. Slow Ride Ops. There should not be three stopped trains on a track. "Behind the (fill in the color) Line" Some SF ride ops are just overly anal about this. $10 PLUS to park. OUCH!!! I want a Six flags Nationwide parking pass.. I would gladly pay $150-200 for this each year. Inconsistent rules... Each SF park has different rules/procedures. While some of this is expected, there are somethings that are really weird. Case/Point--> SFFT and SFOT both have preferred parking. Each park has $5 upcharge for this 'better' parking area. The difference occurs when you buy a parking pass. At SFOT, I can use the full cost (including $5 upcharge) towards season parking. At SFFT, I can only apply standard parking fee to season parking... losing the $5 upcharge. There are some other oddities.... some parks have single rider queue and some do not. etc[/b] Jerry edit: PS I will note that SF is making some huge improvements for 2006. I am hoping for the best.

I just sent you guys an email from my lycos account.. >>>Jerry -
Skip the 12.50 part. Waiting for this ride more than 5 minutes is a waste. If you can walk on.. go for it. If you cant, wait. You might want to find out when it opens and then hit it early. skip the line.

Very cool. Elissa and Robb what is the best email for each of you? (I know that Robb has several) ~~ Thursday night is workable. Not 100% on time but it would be after 5 probably 6. We can email and square up the details.. ~ Eric, I am going to be in town for the weekend only, is an extreme pass worth it? (I already have SFOT pass) -

Working.. thats no fun. I figured you guys might be. I would love to catch up with you guys for a few early/late rides (or whatever time..) maybe on Thursday night. (Park closes at 10) I should be there about 5-6pm til close Thursday and at opening on Friday. ~~~ How much is parking? Is there a hotel that you recommend that I stay at? (No frills necessary) Walking distance would be optimal for hotel. -
Robb & Elissa- Just wanted to see if you guys are going to be at the park on either of those days. Also going to KBF on 4/15. I'd love to meet you guys and catch a few rides with you. I will be sporting my new TPR shirt! 2nd- If you guys arent there, any suggestions on how to take in the most rides in park? [what order???] I will get there Thursday late (13th) and be there Friday morning at opening. Rob was saying something on the podcast about it. 2b) Same question for KBF. I also have SFOT pass, would that help? Thanks >>>Jerry

Whoa!!! Much too my despair, Astroworld is a done deal. I was at the auction on Sunday. To clear up a few things. I talked to SFAW employee on Sunday; here is what I learned We all know six flags has tons of debt. OK, SFAW was the only park that was wholly owned by SF that did not have some sort of agreement preventing it from being sold. Apparently the the debt principle is due from Premier Parks' purchase of SF from Time Warner. And its due in February. Sad reality is Astroworld is supposed to be turned over to Land Developer on Jan 31. We all heard that the R/E is hot in Houston where SFAW is. Thats true, but the 'real' story was about timing and availability. SFAW was the most 'liquid' asset available. And they need $$$ now. The parking dispute thing was smoke and mirrors. SFAW has rights/ownership to all the land in its block and several other pieces very near. Parking wouldn't have been an issue. But it was enough to tell public/stockholders..."we need to sell it." My understanding is there is a long term agreement with SFNO and city of NO... so i think SF is stuck there. There is also some sort of agreement that SFFT cannot be sold for several more years. (I will try to find out more about these agreement that are in place) Hope this helps And last but not least, why is everybody trying to take away my friggin' parks? First is SFAW, which is unfortunately true, and then SFFT. LEAVE TEXAS ALONE!!! We have suffered enough!

NEWS: Fire At Astroworld

I always thought that the word "Disk" referred to the storage device like a floppy disk, disk drive, all derived from the word "Diskette". The word "Disc" refers to the flat round object like a CD/DVD, frisbee, all derived from the word "Discus" I know the disk in a floppy is the round thing inside the square. -

Sloppy copy editing...gotta love it EDIT: OMG I just realized that it was called "Greased Lightning" through the whole article instead of "Greezed Lightnin'" which was it's proper name. Wow...and people wonder why I am ashamed to have a journalism degree!!! Sickening. -Julie Good catch. Have you ever noticed that when people write compact disc they use a "k" like disk. Media does this all the time. If I am not mistaken the "c" is what makes it a trade mark. ANYWAY. This is one of my favorite rides at AstroWorld. Even with the auction, I am not sure that it will have a much longer life.. -
Thanks coasterlou. Going back to the original topic, do you have any foods you hate??? Are you a picky eater? Also, I see that you are from Manchester. You a Manchester United fan? Since "football" of that sort is not popular in US, M.U is my favorite team. It all started playing a soccer video game like 8 years ago. I was able to actually learn about European teams, etc. I somtimes catch M.U. on the Spanish Channel here. (Not much coverage in English)

um, no they're not. Excuse you, I have done research and projects on this, and I know it for a fact. So leave your proof-less opinions to yourself. Thanks. And, just so I don't sound like a total jerk, let me say it in a different way. Most McDonald's hamburgers do have a little cow waste in them, it is just a simple fact. It is also why it is very important to order hamburgers cooked well, because that kills all the germs that are in the cow waste. Angus, among other burgers, are not so much as risk because the meat is from a different part of the cow. Now, for future reference, next time you post a comment saying something, do a little research. I am certainly open minded, but best I can tell, you only have an opinion. You have no references or quotes to support what you are saying. Fact of the matter is the whole germ thing you are talking about is the same for all slaughtered animals used for food consumption. Looks like you headed straight for vegetarian.... Furthermore, Angus is a type of Cow, not a part of it. Angus is a breed of cattle that originated in Scotland...near Aberdeen (Ironically I have a McDonald's Pic from Aberdeen posted above) Germs come from how it is slaughtered, how it is stored, and how the meat is plucked off the bone--machine or by hand. The Breed is irrelevant. Please Check Wikipedia for reference. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_cattle . Given that, I think you should do more research. Before you blast someone, please be able to at least back up what you are saying. And this Forum is not about how McDonald's makes their food. Its a picky eaters forum. At this point, we are way off base. Please try to post more around the topic or if you'd like to further the McD's debate...please start another post. Thanks
