I just thought you might want to know this, but six flags is holding an ert for flashback on the 18th. I got the email from six flags just now and it's exclusively for pass holders. I know you guys may already know this, but I thought I might get the word out. It starts after the park opens and goes from 10:30-11:30.

Flat Ride Accident in China
camthedominator replied to gerstlaueringvar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is exactly why I don't trust fair rides. Many of my friends say "they don't chain the fair rides to the ground to hold them steady, it's to keep people from stealing them". (just to clarify, that last statement was a joke and should not be taken seriously.) I'm just shocked that the entire chasse managed to become disconnected from the arm as it is one of the sturdiest moving parts of the ride. -
Against Boulder Dash? That's...cute. Boulder Dash is amazing. But an airtime machine? No. Bizarro easily has more airtime than Boulder Dash anyway. Question is will WC have more than Bizarro. Did I read that right? Boulder Dash has way more airtime than Bizarro. The back seat of Bizarro doesn't even come close to the front seat of Boulder Dash. I honestly beg to differ. Maybe I just rode Bizarro on a great day or Boulder Dash on a bad day (July, 2011 for each), but I don't think that's it. I love Boulder Dash, it was running soo fast the day I went, but at no point on any one of my 10+ rides did I feel airtime that I would even consider ejector. Whereas, Bizarro had nine of the strongest airtime moments I had even encountered (Until of course El Toro and Sky Rush...). Please reconsider what you think is airtime, as it is not what puts Boulder Dash in the top of the polls, IMO. Well said. you might also look at what others say about it. Boulder Dash is all about the terrain hugging maneuvers it performs where as bizarro is solely about airtime and more spacifically, ejector airtime. They both have their highs and lows, but overall bizarro wins in terms of airtime.

You just said it yourself... airtime is a borderline opinion. You cannot compare (in many cases) two coasters for "amount of airtime." You get into ejector vs floater, zero-g vs negative-g, etc. But the point is, it does not matter. It was an advertising technique. Not one person in the entire world is going to call them out saying, "Hey! This has less airtime than Bizarro! False advertising!" And NO, they are not going to suddenly change an element because they think they aren't delivering on their "promise." That's not how it works. Just with Twisted Colossus, which for some reason people refuse to understand, it's a rendering. If you don't know what a rendering is, look it up before you post about how the rendering is "wrong" or something. Not all that difficult; there are slight tweaks that are made before any track is manufactured. Sorry, how do you know precisely how much "airtime" Wicked Cyclone has, compared to some made up number you say it was supposed to have? I don't mean to be rude at all, but you've got to understand that marketing, SF in particular, should be taken with a grain of salt. You haven't seen SF sued to continuing to call Kingda Ka the fastest coaster, so why would it be any different for WC (and this is before the coaster is even built)? I know what you are saying is true, but I am a wishful thinker. I know that the extra airtime hill was not put in for any good reason in the back of my head but part of me also wants to think that maybe it was done for a better cause. Yes, I know that six flags will use gimmicks and tricks within their advertising and personally, I find it kind of slimy. I wish large corporations didn't do this, but they do. Anyway, does anyone have a second prediction of the opening of wicked cyclone? With the new progress made, it looks like it may open sooner than expected.

I can agree with the fact that airtime is not monitored by any one organized group, but I'm sure that coaster enthusiasts would have something to say about that. Sure it's all a marketing strategy, but people like us know that their statement is untrue. But yes, this when idea of smoothness and airtime is all arbitrary. For one, I think it should be made a proper study.

Oh my goodness it's a sign from above! Mind Eraser will be receiving new restraints and there's going to be a second outward banked airtime hill! Well by golly it's almost too good to be true. By the way, does anyone think they added that extra piece of airtime due to it not having the predicted amount of airtime? Maybe they just want to ensure their record remains untouched by other parks? It just seems like an odd thing to do this far into construction.

I think it would be hilarious seeing those clunky old things bumbling along the track. It would be like watching a roller coaster enthusiast trying belle.(just kidding ) -

I take comfort in the fact that Intamin will still have the worlds tallest drop tower and roller coaster. I guess the inner Intamin fan boy is freaking out right now. This does present the question, what in the would will a 123 degree Intamin drop look like? -

Yeah, I could definitely see a next generation version of those being used. If they do use 2 across trains, I too think that they would use maverick style trains. By the way, does anyone think that they might use lap bars instead of OTSR's. I guess that in the long run, lap bars seem like a better decision... -
Sorry about all the confusion. I am personally against topper track. What I was however doing was saying that if that's the reason that they took the Thunderbolt name off the website, I wouldn't be too annoyed. This does bring up the question, is Thunderbolt missing from the website. Again, I'm so sorry about all the confusion. I will try to be a little more clear in the future so this doesn't happen again.

Oh gosh no, of course they shouldn't! I agree with you totally. What you were reading was me thinking of reasons why Six Flags might take Thunderbolt off their website. Also, I agree with you on the point that Six Flags doesn't deserve Thunderbolt. I absolutely love that coaster as it was the first coaster I had ever been on. It was sad to see a coaster that I love so much, be denied the attention from the staff it so deserves. However, I think that recently Six Flags has given Thunderbolt a little more attention as it has high ridership, and is visible from the entrance.

I sort of chuckled at the young ones comment, as I have no idea weather that's an insult or a neutral comment. I suppose what I meant was that topper track might prolong it's life and give it the extra punch it needs. I do know that topper track is not necessary, but it wouldn't take away from the ride experience. However, I think what might be better is a new set if trains. Maybe they could order in some new trains from PTC so it could retain it's vintage feel.

Is the theming on the ride meant to represent a nor'easter or a twister? I know the name is Wicked Cyclone, but New England has a long history of tropical storms and hurricanes and I think that they should try and take advantage of that. It just seems weird hat they would base the theming on a twister or tornado while New England very rarely has them.

Your post is not logical. You ask why they hired William Cobb and infer he couldn't make an exciting coaster. Then you say the coaster was great at one time. If the coaster was great at one time (which it was) than William Cobb is capable of building an exciting coaster. I suppose in that case a reiteration is in order. The point I was trying to convey is that William Cobb, even at that point in time, didn't have the best of track records. Yes, he did in fact create some good coasters, but he also created some coasters that were less exciting. I guess from a business standpoint that seems like a poor decision. I would hire someone with a better track (pun not intended). It's all about the ratio of good coasters to bad coasters, and it seems that he had created more bad coasters than good ones...
