  1. ^ They don't own many of the smaller parks they just re-aquired, so there is not really any money there. Hate to say it, but if it really got that dire Magic Mountain could be on the chopping block again. The property value for housing there is worth basically the value of the entire Six Flags chain rn. Shapiro was extremely close to pulling the trigger on that many years ago. Six Flags America also has high property values relative to its rumored income. I don't expect it to come to this at all though. Spanos has made it clear that the parks are the core business, and at the end of the day they are the only things that are going to keep them afloat. So in that respect, as long as they are all profitable to some extent, more parks is better. With that being said there is a lot of financial stuff under the hood with loans coming due and leveraged spending that I don't understand that could play a role as well. I wish SF would just start a savings fund instead of always using profits for stock buybacks. If they invest in the parks and operate a sound and honest business model, they are likely to see success IMO. Think Holiday World.
  2. Hypocrite. I bet you still ride I305 and every other Intamin ever made.
  3. I feel like this thread title should be changed. It automatically paints the park in a bad light considering that it is now being used as the general discussion thread for the park.
  4. White County Commissioners are voting on approving the $3 million in incentives today at 4PM. I think this theoretically means they should have a buyer if they have to approve it. We should hear something very soon if not today. Fingers crossed everyone.
  5. What is a "lifetime Gold Plus" for the rest of the 2020 season? I received this email to. Is it 2020 or a lifetime? It means as long as you keep that particular membership active, it will be a gold plus. (If you keep it for life, then you will have Gold Plus for life). This is the only one that is like that. All higher tier free upgrades are only for the 2020 season. Considering that they do not sell gold classic anymore, this could be a way for them to just streamline them and not have to worry about those antiquated grandfathered gold classic as much anymore.
  6. For what it is worth, Gold Plus also gets you admission to all water parks. I agree though not a significant upgrade.
  7. I will say I have had faith in the progress of humanity through Black Friday. You don’t see people physically fighting over TV’s and Game Consoles quite as much as you used to, at least by my own empirical evidence.
  8. ^ That's fine, call me dumb all you want. These things do happen though and they do affect the industry. https://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2010/10/08/advocates-criticize-cedar-point-haunted-house I have consistently tried to offer insightful and relevant commentary (Including single-handedly calling the closing of Indiana Beach long before anyone else did and being disbelieved for it) There are stupid people in the world and this is exactly the type of thing that would offend them. A roller-coaster themed to a virus-induced post apocalyptic escape is not going to be a good look at all.
  9. Amen. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen though.
  10. That is true, but anything that reminds people of a time when many had no job and money cannot be good for guest spending and satisfaction scores. They probably won’t do much and if they do it will just be turning off the monitors. But I do recall reading that there was serious talk about not naming Hurricane Harbor Oaxtepec “Hurricane Harbor” as well because hurricanes are a reality that can and have caused devistation in Mexico much more than places like LA, New Jersey, or Oklahoma City.
  11. Cedar Fair closed then changed all the Asylum haunts to Urgent Scare because of social context and attitudes. Let’s just say I wouldn’t be too terribly surprised.
  12. Do we think Apocalypse will have its subtle queue line story altered some time after the park reopens and they get a bit of free time? ... it’s currently themed to a pandemic
  13. Gee if only the Vice President of the only billionaire president we've ever had wasn't from Indiana. Hmm... great opportunity to be a hero here. Got to wonder if Pence has ever personally been here.
  14. Late April opening date and buyout dates have quietly been removed from 2020 operating calendar. Now looking at an opening date of Saturday May 2 best case scenario.
  15. This says it all. These parks are going to be desperate for attendance once they reopen. I’ve never seen a ticket to Seaworld San Antonio so cheap in my life.
  16. I take it you've never been to CGA... SWSD confirmed they will have shade structures, but no roof. Similar to Journey to Atlantis and Tidal Twister You are right Do people actually like it like that? I just feel like if you are going to spend millions on a roller coaster you should spend a tiny fraction of that to put a roof over the queue, but i guess that how all flat rides are now that i think about it so ok.
  17. They were also testing the break run and lift before the track was even complete. They would drag the train backwards through the transfer track area and up the break run to test the breaks. I predict it will open in the next few days. Sometimes they can do these things quickly. At Kentucky Kingdom they had to get a certain number of cycles in on lightning run, so they tested it through the night to get it open in time for opening day.
  18. So did we confirm that there is no roof on this station? I'm kind of surprised that California amusement regulation is so anal about everything but gives this a pass. Not that it is any less safe or anything, but just that it seems like something they wouldn't let fly.
  19. Everyone criticized Mark Shapiro when he added Wiggles and Thomas and Parades to the parks and tried to make them more family friendly in atmosphere. Looking back it seems quite similar to the strategy Cedar Fair has in place now (that seems to be working according to financial reports). Maybe he was just ahead of his time. Nobody is going to care one bit how amazing your 30 second rollercoaster ride is if the park looks like crap. I’d be pissed if I was a day ticket visitor. “Welcome to Six Flags, fork over $30 to park in a crumbling parking lot with weeds poking through and no tram.” You are selling a complete experience, not a collection of rides. Parks like Dollywood seem to understand this concept well.
  20. Also sorry for the double post, but this seemed like an important development. This was posted on the Fun Spot America Facebook page. They wont be buying the park, but also due to this statement, it sounds like they won't be scalping any rides either. " To the many fans of Indiana Beach, We are honored to have been asked by so many loyal Indiana Beach supporters to purchase the park and keep the legacy of great rides and family memories created by the Spackman family alive. We recently received an invitation to visit the park, review the facilities and attractions at Indiana Beach Boardwalk Resort. During the past few days, for some, waiting for an answer may have seemed like an eternity. We saw a park with rich history and heritage, that has created memories for generations. Unfortunately purchasing Indiana Beach or any park is not in our current master plans. We are going to pray for the proper owners and operators to become visible so that Indiana Beach may continue to serve their guests and community for many more generations. We encourage the efforts to have Indiana Beach reopen. It is a treasure that should be allowed to delight families for generations to come. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of sincere wishes and wonderful family messages from so many loyal Indiana Beach fans, we are with you in the hope that there is an organization that can share your passion and dreams for the future of Indiana Beach. -Fun Spot America Theme Parks "
  21. I think the more appropriate argument for Indiana Beach would be that Six Flags at one point owned Wyandot Lake in Columbus. But I agree, small chance it is Six Flags. Maybe a few months ago they would have considered as they were looking to acquire adjacent properties to grow and give more value to membership. With the fallout of the China parks, domestic attendance down, and shift away from such a high focus on memberships, I'd say chances are close to none now.
  22. ^Should get Birds, Sea Lions, and Dogs this year. They are really going all in on the animals haha. Although last year the birds were there from Memorial day to July 4 and I’m not sure if that schedule will modified at all.
  23. This could very well be harder than anticipated to find a new operator because at some point prior to announcing closure, Apex parks supposedly sold the land under Indiana Beach to Store Master Funding LLC and leased it back from them to operate the park. If Apex defaulted on Indiana Beach's lease payments this could make things even more complicated. Any new deal to operate the park would have to go through the city, Apex, and Store Master Funding. For proof of above claim go to this link, click "start your search" and type in "indiana beach". http://in-white-assessor.governmax.com/propertymax/rover30.asp?sid=3F This is the company that currently owns the land. https://www.storecapital.com/more-about-master-funding-solutions-2/
  24. The park will be getting a new dog stunt show this year as well as both Pacific Rim and Yogi Bear new movies in the 5D cinema.
  25. How is Orca Encounter at this park? Same as Orlando?
