Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread

That is great! If it was any other operator they probably would have they would have just thrown it out or left it in lost and found. But Kentucky Kingdom searched the school and called people just to return a ring. If that isn't good customer service I don't know what is. I think this place could rank up with Holiday World if they continue to put in the care and do more things like this. -
What is your local park?

During the summer it is Kentucky Kingdom. 3 minutes (closer than McDonalds) -
Who killed Geauga Lake?
sfkk replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I find it interesting that when Wildwater Kingdom was built, the name was chaged to Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom. All of the other cedar fair parks don't include the waterpark. For instance, it is not Kings Island and Soak City, so why would it be like that for geauga lake? Maybe Cedar Fair knew something and changed the name so that they could just replace the "and" with an " 's ". This may be common knowledge, but I thought I would point it out anyway. -

That sounds about right. I think that the height limit is actually higher on the entrance side of the park and then is a little lower on the waterpark side. Good thing this new coaster is going on the entrance side. Although I don't think it is possible to get a 200 foot coaster for 7 million. -

Yes it is. But at least here we have a price figure hint of 7 million which helps to narrow it down. Also there is a height limit of about 150 - 200 feet because of thee airport. I am not sure exactly what it is. -

They are very busy. There were also people measuring the buildings and probably checking the structure for any repairs. We just walked up to the front gate and the people were very friendly. I was expecting them to tell us to leave, but they didn't. If anyone is thinking of going out there be sure to check the Kentucky Exposition Center's website first and make sure there are no events going on. From past experience, if there are no events going on, there is nobody at the ticket window for parking and it is free. -

I drove by the park today while I was in town and the whole front spike and launch track of greezed lightning are gone. Also only half the loop was standing. It was so strange to see. -

I would love to see a ride like full throttle rather than superman ultimate flight because full throttle still goes backwards (which the gp will love), and it still has good capacity (2 trains of 18 each). With only two major rollercoasters in the park the lines would be long. -

Ed hart is all about the cutting edge of rollercoasters. I think a boomerang would not be very smart. Also, the park said that the new rollercoaster would at least partly be in greezed lightnin's spot. No one in their right mind would buy a new boomerang, and theysaid the rollercoaster would be new. Also kings island has an inverted boomerang. -

I am pretty sure that boomerangs cost less than 7 million dollars. -

I understand that people had a very high sentimental value for gl. I would have loved to see it be saved as much as anyone else, but all rollercoasters must close eventually. If Ed Hart had saved greezed lightnin, then he would have spent a ton of money that may have sunk the park into a money pit. If Ed Hart didn't reopen the park, then the coaster would have just rusted away until it collapsed. So in reality it was either have the park back without greezed lightnin or have nothing back at all. This is why I am still supportive of him. If anyone was to save the coaster it would have been six flags, but they chose to take the mouse instead, so it was clear that they recognized that the ride had come to the end of its life also. It was 35 years old, there were very few parts, and it is just not something that a park that is independently owned and on a budget can afford to get involved in. I know that it is very sad to see for great america fans, but we all new that it would happen eventually. Even if ed had fixed it up, it would have only lasted a few years as parts were getting extremely scarce. At least this will help montezooma's revenge live longer because, according to the kk facebook page, another park inquired about the train. I am thinking Knotts because they seem to really want to keep montezooma arouna as long as possible. I only rode the coaster once, and all I can remember is the hang time from the second time the train goes through the loop. -

I do agree that the park needs to get another family ride, but I think they should get a thrill rollercoaster first. They already have lots of family flat rides like the flying shoes, blizzard river, Thrill Park Theater, the pirate ship, and a few others. Also, if kk does not get a thrill rollercoaster in 2014, thunder run will be the only thrill coaster when the park opens. I think the park should get a launched looping coaster like full throttle. Then in 2015 they should get a family coaster in the leftover space from chang that is not being used for the waterpark. But whatever they get, I will be happy to have the park back! -

When I went to kentucky kingdom and they had the mile high falls and twisted twins section walled off I asked the employee why. She said that it was to add food stands and gift shops and that it would reopen in 2009. She must have taken Six Flags' national restructuring process to literally mean adding structures and buildings. It just goes to show how little six flags' educated their employees. Also that part of the park did not open in 2009.
