That's the second time I have heard that Dollywoods probably not planning anything due to the abnormally slow season.. From a marketing standpoint Dollywood is going to want to create "news" to help the entire area.. I don't expect anything big until after they announce their new area in a few years but I do think they will announce a flat that will at least generate a little news. I was at Dollywood this weekend and heard three tourist say that the area was a hub from human trafficking!! where does all this negative news come from? This was three different families lol.. We need some positive stuff from Dollywood haha Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

The fair area was much easier to navigate before they renovated.. When they renovated it, it seemed like the new rides (that aren't really new anymore) took up more space than the old rides so it didn't have that natural fair feel anymore.. the old rides in the area where more like classic fair rides though. And honestly, I have only seen the Ferris Wheel opened once or twice this year during my visits.. idk why people complain, for me it's normal that it's not open! I remember as a kid though loving the Ferris Wheel until my dad always rocked the chair and I thought I was going to fall out! He never rocked it enough to get in trouble but me being little, i hated any rocking with the sign that says "Don't Rock" Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

That was me that posted that.. no official date on a new themed area, it was just my guess.. When Dollywood announced their big expansion, they said it would include the beginning of a new themed area at some point during the 10 years. Last year, or early this season, they sent out a survey about a new themed area and had select folks vote on it and give them opinions. 2019 is probably too early for it as of now though But like you said, almost 5 years of the expansion are gone.. that leaves 2019, 2020ish as a date for the new expansion and themed area. Lots of infrastructure would go into it they said. With that being said, that's a good point.. with the themed area right around the corner, a flat replacing a flat is very probable while we wait for the new area to be announced I feel the new big ticket ride won't be until the new themed area is announced.. it will anchor that area, whatever it is.. This.. Most locals don't want to see Slindwinder go and here's why.. Dollywood is HOT during the summer.. Rampage can easily get lines of 45+ mins.. that leaves only Slidewinder and DDF for adults to cool off on and get wet.. Dollywood even removed the large splash pad that was below Slidewinder and I loved cooling off there.. if Slidewinder goes that just leaves the long wait for Rampage and DDF.. So if Slidewinder goes, as a local, I think most would love it to be replaced only if it's replaced with a water ride.. Like I said, I don't ride it much due to me going on slow days and it being hard to be matched up but if I'm there on a busy hot summer day, I'm usually in line for it and the lines on it will be 30 - 45 mins usually Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

Yeah but neither of those are a 200 - 400 ft swing that allows great views of the mountains. Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

Good to confirm it's not just me who notices that it's closed a lot.. so yeah, Ferris Wheel is a prime choice for being trashed.. While it might be classic, if it's not open, it doesn't do anyone any good and I see it closed a lot.. over 50% of my visits it's closed.. Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

The only reason I even partly believe the rumor is that the OP did get several rumors correct this past winter/sprinf.. so he has someone on the inside or media contacts with the park.. if his sources are correct though, it's not Rampage (Raft Ride) Or Slidewinder. That only leaves a coaster or flats asside from Rockin Roadway which he also said was safe. Who knows, maybe Friday! And the Ferris Wheel, while classic is rusted and hardly open on any of my visits.. it never has many riders anymore haha Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

I was thinking about the Ferris Wheel being removed when I suggested they needed to put a big swing in like the skyscreamers.. That Ferris Wheel is an eyesore in the fair area! So yeah if it's not Slidewinder, Blazing Fury, Rockin Roadway, or Rampage, it has to be a flat! I can't imagine it being barnstormer, it's fairly new! But didn't one of the Cedar Fair parks have issues with one last year or a couple years ago? Maybe Dollywood wants to get rid of it bc of that but I doubt it? River Battle is popular so I doubt it'll be it but it is in a prime area! But that area needs kids stuff anyways Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

I mentioned slidewinder as well and the OP said all the rides on my list are safe.. my issue with Slidewinder, is what else will fit in that area? I mean, it's a heck of a walk up that hill and now that Wild Eagle is there, Slidewinder is stuck between it, Daredevil Falls, barnstormer and things.. not really much of any direction to build.. Slindwinder is perfect there because it goes down hill and that's what there is room for.. I can see it closing in the near future yes, but like SDC, if it closes I doubt it can be replaced! Unless they use the unloading area and the lockers/photo booth for an area to build a large building for dark ride.. I can see something fitting in the unloading area. Or maybe another flat in the unloading area to go with barnstormer. I hardly ever ride it anymore though but because I go when the park isn't crowded.. With only two of us ever there, sometimes we have to wait for someone to ride with.. a lot of folks come up in groups of 3 or 4 and get right on.. when the park is slow we might wait 10 or 15 mins for one person or a group of two small people to show up to ride with.. a group of 2 larger people usually throws us over the weight limit.. Actually looking back at my post, I didn't mention rampage.. I thought I did.. maybe that is it? Edit: nevermind I did.. I said maybe larger rampage. Haha so I believe Rampage is safe Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

Yeah but I mentioned that and he said the rides on my list are safe.. idk, I'm thinking something in country fair to be honest Plus rampage is one of their most popular attractions during the summer When rumors like this happen at most parks they have something old, not super popular and it's easy to pick.. so I have no idea what it could be at Dollywood Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

Oh good! Well since everyone is like RMC Cyclone at six flags with it closing let me start the RMC Thunderhead! Even though I really hope it doesn't happen. I like Thunderhead the way it is haha Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

Oh no, please don't close Blazing Fury! What else is even old enough to close? Unless they redo and make a modern blazing fury (but they have spent so much money on it recently) Maybe a larger rampage? I doubt it.. put a giant swing (like the skyscreamers) in the fair area? What would they close? Maybe, if the rumor you heard is true, they aren't closing a ride but closing a building! The mansion over the mine.. it has opened from time to time for different things.. this would fit into the signs we have seen and older rumors. I mean, they wouldn't trash Tornado for something new would they? Final thing on my mind are the cars beside LR (not that rumor again) or maybe Slidewinder But really, if they plan to make a new area like they mentioned four or five years ago, why close a ride? Most of their rides are fairly popular haha Any ideas what it might be? Could be something over at Splash Country? Maybe trash LR and start over!!! Hahaha JK on that part Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

This happens on Rampage a lot actually.. when they have all the rafts on the ride, someone almost always gets stuck under the falls for a couple minutes while they Re unloading the rafts up front.. the falls comes on/off the entire time they are under them haha As for the low attendance comment not going to allow a big project for 2018, I don't know if I find that true.. Dollywood will want to help the entire area and what better way than to get National coverage again due to a big ride, new area, or something like that? It'll help both Dollyood and the area.. even if they announced something big that won't be done until 2019, it will get National Attention Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -
Maybe they are going to continue the water park expansion for 2018? And not reace cyclone with anything yet? I mean it could just be pointing to HH and not mean anything but HH is probably closing for the season in a few weeks so a direction sign really isn't needed? Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk

They have mostly used McDonald's for the past few years and you can get that discount online like you found already.. maybe they will extend it I'm not sure if the McDonald's bags have a different date on them or not but the bags (or cups I can't remember) did have a $5 coupon on them BUT I haven't received one in a while.. A lot of area McDonald's might be out but I did receive them earlier this season.. it pointed you online for the $10 Discount or said bring the bag (or cup, again I can't remember) to the gate for a $5 discount. Very possible that it had a different date on the bag or no date at all If you have area passes to anything local in your area, sometimes they have reciprocal agreements.. I know Biltmore passes do, Ripley's Aquarium, Chattanooga aquarium, Knoxville Zoo, all those places have a hidden discount for Dollywood.. other places do to, even places further away. If you have something with an annual pass in your area (looks like your from the Midwest) it's worth calling Dollywood and seeing if they have a reciprocal agreement with them. They used to put $5 off on Coke cans around here but I haven't seen that this year. Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

That's the day I might be in the park lol I was going to buy a timesaver unlimited anyway but does anyone know if this makes it more crowded with her being there now? I'm still on the fence about what I'm going to do, I put together a last minute trip and was planning on going to dollywood the 17th/18th before finding out they aren't open on the 17th I have to be back on the 19th no matter what so I don't have much leeway schedule wise. Since I'm driving I may just skip it and go from kings island back home with a stop at Kennywood for the day instead. I have been there a few times when she has.. doesn't rlly make it much more crowded other than press people.. actually, last year you wouldn't even of known she was there the day I was Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

From my understanding, talking to an engineer two seasons ago, the park would rather use Cinderella because it has so much more power, but he said it hadn't been running well.. He said KK had to be at fulthrottle on both inclines or it would stall, especially if the train was loaded. Cinderella has no issues with the climb.. if it stalled, they could usually get it going again so I guess it more than "stalled" today.. either that or they don't want to back it down with passengers and take another shot at the hill haha Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -

Glad to hear they handled it well! It's not their first rodeo with the trains going down.. out of all my visits the past few years, it's happened 4 times I can recall just on days I have been there.. Unfortunately, it seems to always happen when the train starts climbing the mountain after Thunderhead, when it's working the hardest.. at least it's a Downhill walk haha I guess the worse part is that a lot of older folks ride the train so I can see it being slow getting everyone down the mountain Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk -
